But we have a foreign team... Only because the English players cost too much money still get cheap coaches hanging around these days. Foreign coaches are pretty poorly paid in France compared to Eng.

Yeah but where do I get these suits?

I don't understand how someone can say statistics are not useful in football. They have been fairly effective in basketball, which is also a very fluid game. If you look at managers in the Premiership like Mourinho, Pochettino, Pellegrini, and Lambert, they've all been at their clubs a shorter time than Pardew (in the case of the first two less than six months) and have already given their sides a distinct style and way of playing that is different to what was present before. Even Hughes seems to have imposed himself on Stoke to some degree. The players may not fit their style exactly, but these managers have adjusted and generally made the best out of what they were given. Pardew has managed this team for nearly three years now without an usually high amount of player turnover and still has no idea of how he wants to play, what the best system for the team is, or how to fit players who have been here for quite some time into his systems. What is Pardew's preferred style of play? Listening to his words in the media it seems to be, "fluid attacking football, until something goes wrong and we have to start pumping long ball and sitting back on the 18 yard box because this is the only way to react in such situations". It is thing I dislike most about his tenure here. There is a famous saying, attributed by some to Disraeli, that there are 3 kinds of lies..'Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics'....Politicians of all kinds LOVE the latter most of all because you can prove anything by manipulating the facts in stats.. The only stat I am interested in - apart from the fact we were one game from relegation on the last day of last season - is that Pardew has been sacked by almost every other club he managed....and usually after a similar time span in the job.... I think the animosity to numbers and pictures on here is getting silly. When SSN hoy up a manager's WLD record on screen, which they do following EVERY sacking, do the readers on N-O blanket them with emails about "lies, damn lies and statistics"? It's nowt more than a topic for discussion recognised globally as an interesting measure of how a manager did in his time. The corner stat is fucking atrocious and warrants discussion. Last season, being the team that hit more long balls than anyone else warranted discussion. The data on Alan Pardew's Newcastle isn't big enough to make ANY categoric claims whatsoever, but no-one's claiming something like Pardew reversing the number of long balls so this season we've hit less than 90% of the leagues teams makes him in any way a competent manager. It's just another interesting tidbit that clearly says something about a change in his and the teams methods. No-one (maybe CT?) thinks Marveaux should start because he got most assists last season, or that it should make him a big transfer target from other teams applying the moneyball approach. But it is something to note as interesting. To me at least. It warrants discussion, or if not discussion, then at least a mention. Generating discussion is surely what a forum is about, especially (for example) if a poster claims Pardew is still being a hoofball merchant. He's on his 5th album now and still knocking out 2 trackers. Where the fuck is the concept album?!!

In many ways he has an impossible task and the well is clearly poisoned. But every day he has a choice and in our hearts we want him to stand up and be counted to tell it like it is come what may. AS HF says imagine what it's like for him going into work everyday knowing that those above him are callous, clueless and uncaring. Right now reading these threads it's clear that the club as it is has all but broken our hearts and taken something away and out of our lives.

I have never seen a man such as this more in need of love and human kindness. Let us dream Mike and we will give you the stars...

The falcon does not hear the falconer, things fall apart, the centre cannot hold...

The players looked in shock at the high intensity as if they had no idea what was coming. The pre-match team talk was laden with fairy cakes and earl grey apparently. But after we leveled the real nightmare began...A hesitant and fear ridden side dabbling about on the ball looking to eat up the clock. Unforgivable. Signature Pardew performance.

We started like we were unprepared and barely created anything against a horrific side. Sunderland today were as poor as they always are and will still get relegated. Accept the first half was awful. I said as much in the match thread. They were never going to sustain that tempo (and they didn't) and AP loaded the game with attacking subs to get the equaliser and then look for a winner. We were caught on the break with a screamer from a monkey who'll never score another like it. The very least we deserved today was a point and that would have been a good result. It's massively disappointing, of course, but the anger aimed at AP is imho, for once, unwarranted. And I hate the c***. PS: I f***ing knew Poyet would do this. So typical of him/his sides. We'll now have 'him' hanging over us for every derby until he f***s off or AP's contract expires. As i said in the match thread. A defensive ball winning holding player in Tiote (Yes he had a good game) vs a possession based calm player in Anita who could impose our quality on the floor. Ben Arfa on the left so we're not exposed down the right when hes clearly more of a direct threat there. Fair enough if you try it & the left back has the better of him, dont start with the negative presumption ffs. It says it all for me that at 1-0 down you had Cabaye make 2/3 ridiculous tackles, Tiote throwing a guy off for holding him & players launching shots from 35 yards out. No composure, no calmness. Pure panic. The manager is the one who puts the ethos into the side. We absolutely s*** ourselves against the worst side in the league & we never come back to win a game from behind. We couldnt be more affected by the slightest hint of doubt for a long time now. Its Pardew. There are times out there when football looks like a total mystery to our players.

He was on the Spurs radar.
-
Yup. Pards and co have dragged him down. When he first came he was full of running and looked dangerous and determined. Now just a 'B' movie version of his former self.
-
Knew we'd lose once Cisse came on. At 1-1 we looked hesitant and soft.
-
More combustible less finicky.

Good interview that. Couple of times the ole Fergie eyes started to shine....
-
S'hampton are one of the best teams in the league atm.
-
For too many games he's ended up playing too deep. With Tiote firing again it will help Cabs move up the park with confidence.
-
Poor decision making in that moment...Suarez still had a lot to do.
-
Played well and actually had somewhat control of the game for the vast maj of that half.
-
His spin is of such a level I'm sure there's a place in politics waiting for him.
-
This percentage prozone stuff that tmonkey mentions is exactly how I see his planning translating onto the pitch.

We've tried to play a bit more football this season that much is clear and Pards kind of hinted that was due to having more/everyone available again...But we still sit back and we still are over reliant on individual moments rather than what might pass for a concerted game plan and more drilled attacking movement...It's been a better in some games but I always have this fear that at any time we might be back to square one - and that is my core mistrust of the manager.
