Coloccini vs Sunderland. Quick before they remove it. What a fucking performance.
-
A lot of it was because of one specific curly, beautiful world class Argentinian that has been sorely missed.
-
Really good performance. Worked his bollocks off and managed to fight for every ball. Not the first time he's caused us problems when defending a corner though.

The long-ball tactic is being mentioned all over now, even by opposition players. It's dreadful to watch and an insult to many of our very gifted players. Today however was a special match and it might have helped us to contain them. But the penny really has to drop for him. Cabaye and Ben Arfa are wasted and when Shola is the better option to Cissé, he has to take a look at the bigger picture here.

I'm Swedish. This shouldn't even affect me this much but I feel sick. Going for a run to clear my head now. -

Imagine if he came out as a boyhood mackem tomorrow. -
I'd rather see some sort of general fans manifestaion against racism to make a stance against it than applauding Rose.

English isn't my native languague but I'm pretty confident I would do better anyway. He seems to have no journalistic ambition. There's no cultivation or personal touch to his language and all his articles lack depth or any form of reasoning. To think he occupies the same profession as someone like Caulkin is nothing short of bizarre.
-
Major problem all over Europe seems to be the approach. Organisations, clubs, journalists etc all try to explain and excuse when racism occurs instead of just condemn it and punish those involved. We've had similar cases in Sweden as of late. Sickening the way it's treated. Over here, some people were trying to find excuses by pointing the languague used in the 1930s. Also, I think the growing amount of anti-semitism is alarmingly over-looked. In Hungary, fans shouted "Buchenwald" repeatedly to the Israeli national team back in September. In Holland, Ajax encounter it every other game. UEFA and FIFA need to pick themselves up on this, it's spreading and not only relating to small extremist groups anymore.

Really is amazing when you think about it. He started up front on his own in The Championship despite only being 18, then he had a cameo role in the Premiership that really worked in our favour (Liverpool & Arsenal at SJP being the most prime examples). I remember when he was in for his first start just after Pardew had taken over, but that game at Birmingham was postponed. Maybe things would have been different had he broken through properly. How he threw it all away is beyond me.

Ben Arfa's 2nd half against this lot last season, not often you see a winger have so much joy in 45 minutes. Must have had 3-4 nutmegs to go with another couple of runs that just took them out. Kieran Richardson probably left them because of what happend in that game.

I was having a go at Williamson and Simpson earlier on in this thread. I do agree with you though. It's more down to the instructions than the players. However, I think we could find a right-back more comfortable in possession than Simpson. The general mentality and style is not down to these particular individuals. Pardew is pretty much hinting that their lack of ability on the ball is the reason behind our long-ball game, which is another way of trying to explain our s*** football from a man doing more talking than walking at the minute. I do get the impression that some people have forgotten what watching truly s*** football every week is actually like. We haven't played it regularly for ages, and the football we play is still better than most teams in the division. He doesn't have to explain away anything either, he has consistently delivered for nearly 2 years and has the support of just about everyone aside from a tiny tiny minority on the internet. The idea hes backpeddling in some way is ridiculous. Hes just making a statement which he believes to be true and almost certainly is. And do you really think he stands in the dressing room and says "I want you to hoof it", so they go out and hoof it? And if he said "play beautiful passing football" they would go out and do that instead? We were quite a direct side for all of last season. I doubt there were more than 3 games where we won by playing effective passing football from start to finish, but when you look at the table at the end of the season it would be absolutely stupid to argue with his methods. This team has never shown any indication that they could regularly win by outpassing teams, either in a 4-3-3 or a 4-4-2. We've shown reluctance to keep the ball for big spells of his time at Newcastle. There were periods during last season when we were good at it, but during long spells (after the 0-3 loss to Chelsea up until the 2nd half of the home derby) we played some awful stuff. In my opinion, hoofing is shit football. Constantly bypassing a midfield consisting Cabaye and Ben Arfa is almost criminal. It's not good to watch at all. Some of our results in that period was mainly down to Coloccini and Krul playing some fantastic stuff. Blackburn away is the most prime example, we were battered blue. I think many teams play better football than us so far this season. Reading certainly did it. When I've watched West Ham, even they have been able to play it out from the back a lot more than we do. Pardew seems to be traumatised by certain games. I've always thought that Chelsea game made him revert to route-one tactics because we were hurt in it. The same goes for us famously "letting our hair down" at Tottenham. Going to Arsenal a few weeks later, Tim Krul did nothing but launch it for 90 mins. It's Pardew's view that we should mess about with the ball around our own penalty area, but rather whack it long in order to get out of trouble. It's the core of our perceived inability to keep position and it's the foundation of what I labelled as shit football. It derives from the players' confidence in their own ability and the manager's confidence in the players' abilities.

What's wrong with what he's said there? Nothing wrong in itself, but if that's his vision he's moving further away from it if we're going to keep playing like we are atm.
-
Pretty much confirms the belief that many of us have: He doesn't trust Williamson/Simpson to pass the ball, i.e instructing them to hoof it long. I can't for one second imagine he'd say these things and not mean a single word of it, even if our game at this moment points to the complete opposite development in terms of style.

I dreamt Leighton Baines got us the winner last night. Jonas was MotM in number 10 role.
