Yep, the fact that the ground is called St James Park for the next four years does not sit comfortably with me at all.

I just want us to look like a football team this afternoon and not a well drilled defensive unit that kicks it forward. Obviously with it being a derby the result matters more than the performance but we've been well off the pace this season and we need to start playing. Krul has been a massive miss like, I'll be delighted if he's on the team sheet. Mignolet's been in great form, he could be the difference today.

Probably one of the worst comments I've ever read on here. What a fucking joke Like shite is it. There used to be OOO OOO OOO ing, Booing, Monkey Noises, Bananas thrown on the pitch, chants of he's a wog a wog etc etc at English Footballs (and SJP was one of the worst for it) grounds every week all over the country and blokes lined up selling NF literature behind the Gallowgate End. You never hear or see any of that now and haven't for donkeys years. Racism can simultaneously be less prevalent but not 'all but gone'.

I think Pardew might be forced into a rethink if we start to drop off the pace much more, he needs one as well imo.

Weird thing, I was watching some old Auf Wiedersehen Pet episodes last night and the one where Sunderland are playing in Belgium against Liege came on. Dennis and Oz went along to cheer them on and got on well with the Sunderland fans there and even wore Sunderland scarves. My dad when I was growing up displayed none of the animosity towards them we see now, he used to say he wanted all the north east teams to do well. I just wonder how much the hatred and bitterness has been stoked by the sky hype and how much was genuinely there pre 92. A little before my time so maybe some of our elder brethren can enlighten us. It was very common for north east lads to look out for each other when working away from home in those types of situations. I'd argue it might even be the same now to some extent. I wore an NUFC top in New York City for a day, the only other guy I saw wearing a football top was a mackem, we passed each other in the street and had a quick chat, was good craic actually.

It's tongue in cheek, anyone can see that, but it also states quite a few reasons why they genuinely think they're superior.

Pretty good example of what holds them back in these fixtures and the general difference in the two clubs. They define themselves by their hatred for 'the mags'. It's not acceptable but exaggerating contact is nowhere near the same as diving and i get the feeling that some people feel they are the same thing. For example Jonas exaggerates contact each and every week but would we call him a diver? no. Jonas dives all the time.
