Whether we are currently stronger than we started last season is very debatable.. How exactly? We have lost Carroll and have replaced him with Ba. I don't think that constitutes progress, do you? We have lost Nolan, our club captain and goal scorer and replaced him with Cabaye, who looks promising but is a bit of an unknown quantity. Let's call it evens. We have lost Campbell (essential cover at centre back) and got Marveaux (cover for wings with first team potential but also massive crock potential). All in all we haven't done too badly, but we've gone backwards in attack and defense, and (hopefully) improved in midfield. We have also not spent any major transfer funds. As I have argued before, I am relatively happy so far, but don't come and tell me you are happy if this is how the window closes..? Since when did Campbell qualify as essential cover? He was f***ing shocking man. The same people who were moaning about Campbell being useless and Nolan panting after 50 minutes are now moaning that we've sold them....how ironic. I want a few more players in especially a top notch striker and right winger, but I'm happy so far quotes?
  3. Still 2 months to go. I agree that we should invest more in the squad and I'm confident that given the right opportunities we will do so. Would rather us avoid splashing out for the sake of it though, especially if there isn't any value to be found. Not sure splashing out on N'Zogbia is frugal considering his contractual situation? Would have no problems if we let it drag on and snatched him on the last day. Would also have no problems if we miss out because another club were to spend £10m on him - just silly. thats all fine but the 'right opportunities' for us now are getting players for less than they're worth and bollocks to everything else. dont think anyone's advocating 'splashing out for the sake of it'. spending what is reasonable for a club of our revenue, for the sake of competing for a position relative to our revenue would be fine by me.

  5. i'll be surprised and delighted if we get him tbh, all the circumstances point towards him going elsewhere. imo we're so obsessed with getting value for money that paying what someone's actually worth isnt good enough when we can get another player for half their actual value because of a different set of circumstances. it's pretty ironic when you think about it.
  6. i do think wickham is a strange signing for a team that needs an immediate injection of goals
  7. i've been telling shola he should feel free to find another club for about 10 years
  8. dis-regarding whether we should just pay the fee or not, this is what pisses me off about the transfer window, it should close BEFORE the season starts. Aye, always thought that. Don't understand why it runs into the season at all. i'm guessing the excuse is that so clubs can assess what they have during the first month, bollocks, do it in pre-season. if the rules were the same for everyone there'd be no advantage either way and every club could have a settled squad for the start of the season. They can assess what they need before the end of the current season anyway. The transfer window should really only be for signing the contracts, everything else should be going on all the time. yep. i dont think we'll ever get shot of the current system mind, it creates loads of a bluster and press attention on 'dramatic' transfers and keeps people watching SSN

  11. S. Taylor celebrating Jonas's goal
  12. they're taking the piss
  13. dont actually think that's him, just looks a lot like him. carroll though what are you doing you absolute pleb
  14. Yeah, seems to be way too many people thinking a good signing MUST cost large amounts of money. more importantly, one person seems to think a good signing MUST NOT cost more than a 'bargain' Ah give him a chance, 21st June... absolutely agree, merely responses to posts. i've changed my mind before and will again (forum suicide). I speak as i find though.

  16. I agree. If he's willing to take a pay as you play contract there's nothing to lose yes there is, if we sign him over someone who might have a chance of kicking a ball without breaking their leg the TEAM will be worse off for it
  17. From his tweets it seems pretty clear that he values the old guard above the new arrivals. Joey would be an asset next season if he was prepared to be part of the new look Newcastle but he doesn't seem too sold on the club's view of the way forward which could be a problem. Examples? Didn't Barton say something about how he's unhappy that the club are replacing all the older players and buying younger, quicker and better players? IIRC he said it seemed unlikely they'd do all that without spending any money, in a sarcastic tone as some of us might. Obviously in reference to his own situation. Looking more and more like he's wrong about that. I also wouldn't be surprised if he knew about Nolan going at that point. looking more and more right from where i'm sitting On the agenda horse? eurgh. come on then, explain how he's looking more and more wrong by stating that we were looking for cheaper players when everyone we've signed so far has been on the cheap (and dont drag this down into 'just because they dont cost 20m it doesnt mean they wont improve the team' territory) if you use paper speculation as evidence you're an unfortunate individual
  18. you'd think even nufc would know you cant change every single player and expect the team to perform
  19. indeed, there;s a possibility that having better players around him would help but he looked awkward in the middle last season
  20. Is there much difference in him coming to us to sit on the bench than someone like adam johnson going to citeh to do the same?

  22. Canny way to get a job. Shows some balls we all have opinions but there is no way I could debate with a professional football manager especially one with the stature of Sir Bobby. Just goes to show what a man Sir Bobby was. Legend is over used in football, but is not out of place when describing SBR. If the Villa Boas appointment stack better odds in our favour to sign Sturridge then great. heard on the guardian podcast that villa boas couldnt afford the course to get his badges and bobby phoned the FA and sorted it out for him
