Kick-off at Hyde's Ewen Fields is at 7.00 tonight. How can we go to Ewen Field? Which bus to take? Any admission charge?

    Lee Clark

Why? Premierleague.com Newcastle Reserve lost 1 in 8 games, score an average of nearly 2 goals per game (2nd behind Boro reserve), but concede a staggering average 1.5 goals per game, only better than Wigan. Who are our regular reserve defenders? David Edgar and Paul Huntington? Who are our regular reserve striker? Andy Carroll? Actually who usually play in our reserve? Is there any website where we can follow reserve news? All in all, I think our reserve have done decently on paper. With our injury crisis I wuold imagine that lots of our reserve players consist of youth players. In addition this is also Lee Clark first managerial job.

    Mediocrity

I take your point re Everton, but they still managed to win nothing, and Spurs nearly doing it isn't the same as doing it. In the last eleven years, between them the current top 4 have won every FA Cup and every title. Depressing. Both teams manage to win nothing but they are the teams going upward. Everton is snailing upwards and Tottenham rose rapidly. But Newcastle United? At least there are hopes now for Aston Villa with a supportive chairman and decent ambitious manager.

    Mark Viduka

We already have Martins Owen Ameobi Sibierski Carroll Dyer Viduka on a free why not. But transfer efforts should be concentrated on somewhere else.
  10. Getting the best out of Parker? If we are playing possessive football ala Barca Parker would be an enormous asset. But if we are playing quick counter attack as we are clearly more capable of, then Parker is half useful and half useless. He is extremely important and useful in protecting the back four and withstand the continuous pressure asserted by the opposition. He will break up a lot of play and win a lot of balls for us. However after he wins the possession he is not very useful. He couldn't release the ball fast and forward enough though he can retain the ball very very well. Our other players attacking players are generally quite weak in keeping the possessions, and obviously lacking the nous to play possessive football. Hence Parker's ball retaining contribution is often wasted. We can debate till the end of the world as whether Parker is better stationed further up or down the pitch but you can never fault Parker's effort. He has never neglected his defensive duty wherever he plays. For this simple reason I agree with Roeder that he should play further up front so that he can also contribute to our limited attacking play. Really, I am sick of this Parker bashing bandwagon. There are a lot of major problems in our general game plan that easily overshadow the limitation of individual player. Our ineffective long ball game (even when Sib get the ball he chests it back to midfield which completely nullifies the intention), our imbalance wing (good right wing play with Milner hugging the sideline with Solano doing everything else, very poor left wing play with N'Zogbia injured, Duff out of form, Pattison not very good, Babayaro in capable of overlapping and any other left back offering no attacking threats), keeper losing possession easily etc. Get a working gameplan please Mr Roeder. One can point out to our midtable position and suggest that our counter attacking game plan is working. But considering the players we have we are underachieving without a doubt. Martins, Emre, Dyer, Milner, Solano, Duff, Butt, Taylor, Bramble. These are the players who have the abilities to play counter attacking game. If we still can't play good counter attacking game then we are not playing it properly. Roeder should coach the players (according to the gameplan) properly first and foremost. What's the point of attacking a player who does whatever the coach asks for and plays best to his abilities?? As if Parker is the cancer of the club. Bellamy, causing rifts and finding troubles with manager and captain, nonetheless neither scoring enough goals nor providing enough assists, is being passionately defended here. Yet Parker, the antithesis of Bellamy, is being slaughtered here. They say the Geordie fans are deluded.

    Alkmaar away

If Alkmaar come out and attack us, I predict home and away wins to Newcastle United.
  12. Thank you for your wonderful service this season James our Milner. Finger crossed Milner is going to be our huge asset for years to come. I just think that this marathon season will do him a lot of good. Next season after the summer rest he will become a much better player!

    Roy Keane

I really don't know if I should take you seriously.

    Roy Keane

Sorry but IMO that is bollocks, as well as Keane has done and as many faults as Roeder has its just easy to suggest everyone is better than Roeder. Keane is doing well in a lower league with a squad more than capable of being where they are. Roeder got us to 7th last season after a shocking start (can you honestly see Keane doing the same with Sunderland?) and we are currently in 11th this season with 10 games to go and in the last 16 of the UEFA cup with (at times by a long way) the worst injury problems in the entire league pretty much all season. As much as I don't think Roeder is going to take us far forward he is a decent manager who will at least keep us around where we are (ie top half finishes and later stages in Europe). As said it seems another case of "anyone is better than". Bollocks - I really don't think you can underestimate the impact of Evra, Vidic and Carrick. Squad - It is a squad mainly assembled by Keane. So Keane should take credit for building a team capable of chase promotion. Instant result - Roeder got us to 7th after a shocking start. But Keane got Sunderland to 4th after a shocking start. Granted Roeder has less time than Keane, I honestly don't see any potential Roeder getting us any better than 7th (6th at the maximum) but I see plenty of potential Keane taking Sunderland to top of the league League - Everything is relative. Keane can only challenge what is present in front of him. Roeder didn't do very well with Watford and Gillingham did he? Of course Keane is still largely unproven for the very simple fact that he hasn't managed a team in Premiership. But the potential is there for us to see. Whether he will be succesful eventually is everyone's guess. He has his faults, and he definitely need to overcome those if he were to achieve something as a manager.
  15. That there is the key to running a successful club, to developing players good enough to play for a successful club. And the beatuty about Wenger's set-up over Mourinho's is that his way allows not so technically great players to become technically better, to improve their game and become different players. Mourinho's way doesn't allow for certain players regardless of how good they are, Wenger will mould a player to fit the system or to become a part of the system, Mourinho buys players to fit a system, and gets rid of those that can't adapt or don't fit in, or leaves them out of things. You have to be a certain player to play for Chelsea and Mourinho, at Arsenal you just need talent (and the right attitude of course), Wenger and his set-up will take care of the rest. But actually how much does Wenger contribute to the youngsters? If we give him a Shola Ameobi could Wenger turn him into a Dean Ashton? The Arsenal squad which play Chelsea against Arsenal Almunia - 29 Hoyte - Arsenal youth product Senderos - Bought at 18 and only started games regularly at 21. I count him as an Arsenal youth product Toure - Bought at 21. A youth product of ASEC Mimosas Traore - Boutht 2 years ago but already play in first team sparingly since last year. I count him as a wonderkid instead of a product of Arsenal academy Walcott - Southampton youth product Denilson - Sao Paulo youth product Fabregas - Barcelona youth product Diaby - Bought last year. Not an arsenal youth product. Aladiere - Bought at 16. Arsenal youth product. Baptista - Not a youngster Put it this way. Arsene Wenger perhaps isn't a wonder coach you could turn donkeys into horses. What he does is essentially the same as Jose Mourinho. The only difference being Mourinho buys old and experienced and Wenger buys young and unproven. In this respect Wenger's talent spotting is unrivalled in England even in the world. And his philosophy is one I highly admire and wish Roeder could practise the same. This generation of talent is phenomenal. With the money saved from buying young, Wenger could spend the extra bit to obtain extraordinary talent to ice the cake. I will watch them with a passion.
  16. Comparing them to Roeder ... In Benitez, Ferguson, Mourinho and Wenger, I have no doubt that Premiership have the best collection of elite managers as compared to other leagues. Shame that we didn't get Hitfeld. Now that would be a scene. Sunday Telegraph
  17. What do you guys think about Gordon Strachan as manager? Squarefootball
  18. Brilliant post Mick. However on the bold part, I don't think he is lacking any hunger or will. He still tries hard to beat his man, although mainly to no prevail. I think he is lacking proper training and hence losing his edge.
  19. I always thought that we are clueless going forward. We are just the poor man Liverpool. We can show lots of spirit resisting an onslaught and punish the opponents with deadly counter attack but when we have the ball we are simply clueless in trying to score a goal. Do we know how to attack? We are badly missing Emre. The reason why Sibierski has done well for us so far is simply because he is an easy outlet, easy solution. After running out of ideas, just aim a high ball at the shiny bald head inside the penalty box and play for the percentage. We are badly missing N'Zogbia too.
  20. Ah TMonkey got there before me.
  21. Bramble is indeed a genuine talent. But his concentration ....

    Roy Keane

On the subject of Championship It's sad that Cardiff doesn't look likely to be promoted. I would love to see Chopra given a chance in the premiership. Derby, Sunderland or West Brom could do well buying him next year.
