    This season

Wages? And the prospect of being potential messaih for this club which has been underachieving for years. I won't think it would be hard getting famous players to tour club unless the players are extraordinary, for as long as the supporters fill in the stadium week in week out we would be able to pay higher wages than other clubs; for as long as we are underachieving we would be able to attract players who want to make a name for themselves.
  3. 1.Nolberto Solano - Renew contract 2 more years. Turn him into a coach once he retires. 2.Oguchialu Chilioke "Oguchi" Onyewu - Sign him on a 5 year deals, provided he does well for us for the rest of this season. 3.Craig Moore - Release. We already have Taylor, Onyewu, Bramble, Ramage, Huntington and Edgar. 4.Titus Malachi Bramble - Keep. 3 years. 5. Antoine Sibierski - Renew a year. Owen is injury prone, so as Ameobi. Unless we acquire another striker permanently in the summer. 6.Pavel Srnicek - Release. We already have Given, Harper, Krul. 7.David Edward Edgar - Keep definitely. 5 years contract. He is young, he has shown some promise, and he won't command high wage. 8.Olivier Bernard - Depends on how he does till summer. If he is better than Babayaro then keep him and sell baba. If he is not, release him. 9. Alan O'Brien - Keep, and loan him out. 10. Philip Adam Cave - No idea. 11.Kristopher Gate - No idea.

    The Championship

Ignoring messenger shootings rife in this forum, the following are the updated Delima's comments 1 Derby County - Very Impressed by what Billy Davies has done. Thought he has done very well in the January transfer window by acquiring James McEveley, David Jones, Craig Fagan, Tyrone Mears, Stephen Pearson and Gary Teale. Should go on and win the championship. 2 Birmingham City - Think they will fumble sooner or later. Without Matthew Upson, I don't think they will get promoted. 3 Preston North End - Still very impressed by Paul Simpson. But thought they are a bit over reliant on Nugent. Think they will just miss out the promotion. 4 West Bromwich Albion - After the initial wobbling due to managerial change, they are pricking up the tempo again. Kamara has been very impressive, and the replacing of Quashie with Koren is an excellent deal. Davies has started to perform again, Clement has come back from injurey, McShane has impressed as a right back. Think they are very well qualified to win promotion now. 5 Southampton - In Burley Suothampton are in a safe pair of hands. Think they will be a strong promotion contender, but don't think they are strong enough to win the promotion. 6 Cardiff City - The overachieving has come to an end. Too reliant on Chopra. Don't think they will get promoted. 7 Stoke City - No comment. 8 Colchester United - Would like them to get promoted as it would be very interesting. But seriously doubt this possibility. 9 Sunderland - Roy Keane has done well in the transfer window, again. Danny Simpson, Johny Evan, Carlos Edwards, Stern John, Anthony Stoke, Marton Fulop. Progessing steadily in the championship, think they will be the third and last team to get promoted this year. 10 Wolverhampton Wanderers - Mick McCarthy is doing a very good job. But he doesn't have much resource. 11 Plymouth Argyle - Ian Holloway, a decent championship manager, that's all. 12 Sheffield Wednesday - Despite the early encouraging performances, I don't think Bryan Law would make an outstanding manager in the championship. 13 Crystal Palace - Peter Taylor is overrated. 14 Ipswich Town - No comment. 15 Burnley - No comment. 16 Coventry City - Thought they shouldn't sack Micky Adam. 17 Norwich City - Thought they shouldn't sack Nigel Worthington. 18 Leicester City - They should count themselves blessed as they will soon be bought by Milan Mandaric. The future is good. 19 Barnsley - No comments. 20 Hull City - Evan though Phil Brown has produced a few good results for Hull, I don't think he is the right man to get Hull promoted, even in the future. 21 Luton Town - Very surprised by the lack of transfer activities (purchases) 22 Queens Park Rangers - No comment. 23 Southend United - No comment. 24 Leeds United - No comment.
  5. Have you just galnced at his goalscoring record? I was chatting to a few French footy fans about his and they rate pretty highly and say he would be suited to the premiership. He is canny phsyical and has teriffic nack for setting up goals rather then scoring them. Babels a non starter and out of whats avaliable, Piq looks like a good move for us. Frédéric Piquionne 22 goals in 84 appearance for Saint-Étienne. Personally I am not convinced that he would be a good bet for us. On loan or on free (or on a minimal fee) yes, but performance wise I don't think he wuold be a good upgrade to what we have. Sibierski is decent at the moment, and Dyer has been excellent for us. Whereas Ramage has been poor, Bramble inconsistent, and Edgar + Huntington inexperienced. Ligue 1/French football has much slower tempo (not to suggest it is an inferior form of football). I don't think Piquionne can get used to our fast and furious football in a click. He isn't famed for any standout ability either, so I don't know how we could utilise him. My humble opinions anyway.
  6. Steve Harper - 8 - Keep us in the match. Stephen Carr - 5 - Poor first half, but improved in the 2nd half. Steven Taylor - 6 - A vital clearance, nothing much else. Titus Bramble - 6 - Some harmless errors as usual, Otherwise a decent performance. Paul Huntington - 5 - Intelligent, but technically limited. James Milner - 8 - Lively, hardworking, intelligent. Nicky Butt - 6 - Off early. Scott Parker - 8 - Patrolled the midfield, protected our defenders, kept possessions, and threatening going forward. Damien Duff - 5 - Poor. Doesn't see much of the ball however. Kieron Dyer - 7 - Good. Obafemi Martins - 8 - A threat throughout. Missed 2 easy chances though. Antoine Sibierski - 7 - Scored a good goal, otherwise an average performance. Overall verdict: We just can't keep the ball, or is it due to our game plan? We seem content to absorb the pressure and rush fast and furious when going forward. Counter attack has become our theme of play. With pacy, athletic and skillful players such as Milner, Dyer, Martins, N'Zogbia and Duff (the old version) we can afford to do this and we are reaping the rewards in games that aren't in our control (eg against Villa & Tottenham). In defensive players with fierce fighting spirits and full blooded commitments such as Parker, Butt, Taylor, Huntington/Edgar, Solano, Given and Harper we could afford to expose ourselve to oppositions' assault for prolonged period. But the limit of half baked and error prone players such as Carr, Huntington, Ramage and Bramble will be magnified in such situation. We have acquired Gooch, we are in desperate need of a reliable left back to hold the defensive line. Huntington has got the intelligence to make vital interceptions or tactical fouls, but does not have the skills of Solano to duel well with attackers.
  7. Will Oguchi Gooch Onyewu be a hit? Post your prediction. Personally I think he will. If he is not an instant hit then he would be a semi instant hit like Martins. However for the French striker, I have absolutely no confidence.
  8. Liverpool want him, to play against your lot, cos Xabi Alonso will be suspsended But seriously, I was wondering the same - as in why we wanted to sign him, not about him not playing for the Hammers, cos I've seen him enough to know he's a good player. But the thing is - it's just a case of Rafa seeing an opportunity to get a player like him, on the cheap. If there was a 8 mill price tag involved, then no, it wouldn't happen, cos he isn't a priority, at all. Sissoko is having a long term injury; Pennant is inconsistent; Mascherano is proven top international; Zenden not good enough; The deal won't be expensive (I presume); Liverpool might not get other chances to sign him again. All the afformentioned factors combine (not least the cheap cost) and I think it would be an excellent deal for Liverpool. Put Gerrard back to the right where he belongs, and stuff 2 of Sissoko/Alonso/Mascherano in the middle (by rotation). Invincible midfield Rafa is building. Gonzales, Kewell Alonso, Zenden Sissoko, Mascherano Gerrard, Pennant, Garcia Also Risse and Aurelio can play left wing adeptly Impressive stuff here.
  9. Like the look of him, I have to say. Well done Glenn. Other clubs tried to sign him to no avail (Middlesbrough and Fulham were both very close to signing him), yet you manage to get him here on loan. If only you can do this more often. Washington Post

Very good biography for Coloccini. If the rumoured 2.7 millions £ were to be true, it would be silly not to get him. He fits into Roeder's player profile quite nicely - young, proven, potential, decent ability, an (vast) improvement of the squad. Deportivo-La-Caruna.com

    Excellent post TMonkey
  12. Bramble played well for Robson didn't he!? Stupid to nit pick a few transfer failures of our old manager when he has done a lot of good things for us.
  13. So for you Freaky Shepherd is not responsible for our financial and managerial mess where he has direct responsibility, but kindly responsible for grassroot scouting which comes good once in a while. Somebody bite ffs.
  14. And these countries are producing the best players in the world??? Actually, I would rather us signing players from the odd countries than those from popular countries like Brazil, France etc. Chances are that the cream from Brazil, France etc have been taken by other more popular clubs. Those elites from less popular countries, while could be less skillful, could be more competitively minded and ambitious.

Spector !!? He has been playing as right back. If you think he is shite than you should replace Carr with him.

    Daniel Jones (LB)

Is this the Nyatanga who can't get in the Sunderland team? Nyatanga is a quality young centre back who is currently injured I think. Adam Eckersley should be another decent shout.

  19. Roeder is a better coach? Why? On what basis do you reach this conclusion? Do you honestly believe than O'Neill is not involved in coaching? He might not coach first hand anymore because he has bigger priority in managing the club. But the coach he has MUST coach the players in the way heendorses. In other words if O'Neill were to be a coach he would coach in the same way but perhaps with better results, due to his motivation skills etc. Saying Roeder is a better coach than O'Neill is just like saying Roeder is a better coach than Benitez, Ferguson, Mourinho etc because they are not coaches! I agree with you that Big Sam is better than Martin O'Neill, but I disagree with you that Roeder might be a success in Scotland. Strachan has an OK track record in Coventry and decent track record in Southampton, spending very little but building a resilient squad. You can't put Roeder in the same bracket as Strachan, just like you can't put Roeder in the same bracket as Le Guen, even though Le Guen struggles in Scotland.
  20. The Guardian Good article. All the English managers have struggled except good old Redknapp and Allardyce. Although I would say this is very harsh to Aidy Boothroyd. Another thing. David James is so far the best keeper not the in trend Jaaskelainen!

Your opinions? Me, no. I am selfish, I pay their wages and I would like myself to be nicely entertained at this time. The Guardian
