  1. Here we go, everyone arguing over where De Jong would fit in our team and we havent even made a bid for him, never mind the fact that Ajax would probably refuse to sell him in the January window anyway, particularly for the sort of money we would bid.  Its not going to happen period!

Forgive us for having the temerity to even think such a thing was possible master.

I'm not surprised some people question about talking about signings fitting in. Unfortunately it always seem we get our hopes up and then are totally destroyed, never getting my hopes up over a potential signing again

That's now way to live man!

Besides discussing how someone fits in isn't necessarily getting ones hopes up.

  2. Not sure how Siem De Jong would fit into our team. We have one quality winger and only one quality striker. Signing him means we can't play either 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 effectively.

He's a centre forward that drops off the main striker isn't he?

    Yes

    Play him with Cisse then?

I think Remy was going to be played upfront anyway.

By most accounts Pardew seems to want to go with two forwards.

  4. My only worry is how quickly we can get our next target in.

We can't worry too much about Remy. It was always going to be a tough one. He's a pretty highly though of player, and so it was always going to be a battle with someone to land him. It's not like Ben Arfa where no one wanted him because of perceived baggage, and it's not like Cabaye who many weren't as aware of. Redknapp has also been chasing Remy since he was at Tottenham, so no surprise he pulled out all the stops.

I think with our current setup, we'll always do better landing the talented players that are not quite as high profile yet, unless it's a Ben Arfa type, who has been in trouble. Marseille is a pretty big club in France, and it's always going to be a tougher sell to players coming from these type of clubs, they'll already feel like stars, and will want the big money, glamour etc.

Think we'll likely always be better off sealing deals for the likes of Maiga (though we opted out in the end!) who was coming from Socheaux, or even Cisse who was coming from a less renowned club in Germany.

Hopefully we can have success with Aubameyang for this sort of reason. Going after Gomis from Lyon, would be another move that would worry me, as his profile is quite a bit higher at the moment, and there will be other eyes fixed on him.

Man ... hope some positive news on other players comes soon. Feel deflated.

  5. 12th May , QPR away.  Please football gods, let us relegate them that day. Remy doing his knee in the game so he can't move that summer too would be also pretty damn sweet.

When in reality an error by Williamson lets Remy clean through to put us down. Howay, lets keep positive.

    Newcastle win.

    Gomis hat-trick.

Remy doesn't feature, due to recurring thigh injuries.

  6. Unbelievable what's happened today. At least this hasn't taken place on the final days of the window, so there's still some hope.

What else do we have? Really tough to take though. Horrible set of circumstances.

Really hope the club push through on other options quickly if we lose out on Remy.

Sunday was so much fun too. Felt terrible for people on here when the QPR news broke

  7. This Redknapp is the guy that was bemoaning how much players were on at QPR, and how he wouldn't be wasting the clubs money any further.

What a wretched vagabond this man is.

  8. The only way this could even be remotely possible, is if QPR have thrown an insane amount of money at him at the last minute.

They're probably dumb enough to have done so.

However, to come into a team that already features Ben Arfa, Marveaux, Cabaye and Debuchy should have him more excited than anything QPR could possibly do.

"I will wait until the end of the season and decide what to do," said Sissoko.

"I might stay here, who knows. In football, strange things happen.

"Newcastle are a good team with some French players, so they are attractive to me, but at the end of the season we will see what happens."

Wants that tasty signing on fee he'll be getting as a free agent.

Sounds like he'll be getting it at Newcastle too.

    Jesus ...

OKay, well if this is happening that club  of his in Argentina need to pay up.

Absolute pisstake if between the both of them, they think he can just go back for next to nothing. Stop pining for Colo if you don't have the funds to buy him.

    Outrageous stuff.

    This news broke yesterday.

How on Earth would he fit in with Sturridge, Suarez and Borini.

Another point, if we're after a striker, and Sow is available for the price, we really should be in there.

  12. We just need to sign a couple more players from Argentina, so his wife and kids have people to play with. So obvious and straightforward, but we can't do the simplest things. This club man, honestly.

Do yourself, and everyone else, a favour and stop typing.

Sorry, just trying to add to the ridiculous nature of this thread. I'm quite bored.

  13. These wives for goodness sake ... want to have their cake  and eat it. They enjoy the comforts that him being a footballer brings, but then start crying off home. It's part of the package. I mean damn! Sign up for English classes at a local college, and get out there and meet some folk. Learn about a different culture. Enjoy it! So frustrating.

  14. Been talking to a friend of mine from France, and Aliadiere has apparently been really good this season, and has alternated between the left hand side and upfront. Has scored a number of goals and assists already.

The guy is 29 though ... so this would be quite surprising. Probably a cheaper short term alternative if we can't get who we're after.

Not sure though. That guy loves getting injured. He'd probably sprain something just getting off the plane.
