  1. Wasn't that impressed with him tonight tbh, not that that means anything at all at this stage.

Steady & unspectacular.  Looks potentially quite quick.

    Sounds similar to Glen Jonhson.

Nah. I would actually describe Glen Johnson as unsteady but very spectacular.

GJ can be a bit suspect defensively, but is an awesome attacking threat.

  2. Why are our fans so fickle?

Everyone was slagging him off last week.

I wasn't slagging him off last week! I was genuinely struck by how hard he was working and how hungry he appeared to be to do well. Yes he was still doing those silly things only he can do, but his effort seemed miles better than it has been for a while. Maybe it is the fact that he knew he was the number 1 striker now no matter what.

With the level of effort he was putting in, at least some good things were always going to happen for him in this league. He has played a part in every single goal we have scored this season so far.

    Good for him.

  3. Hmmmm ... this two other bidders crap makes me think this could still be dragging on for a little while.

Who knows though, perhaps the surprisingly high turnout for the first home game and the teams performances so far have encouraged some bidders who were perhaps doubtful about the teams ability to return to the premier league. If there is suddenly an increase of interest we owe it all to Shola. A true living legend.

  4. Sol Campbell has made a hell of a lot of money over his career. So not too surprised by this especially if his shawty is from the area. Newcastle are still a big club regardless of the division and he's at about the stage of his career where he can afford to step down a division for less cash. He could turn out to be a huge hero if he does come in and does well for us under these circumstances.

  5. Martin Jol would be a great shout for Villa if O'Neill flunks.

I can kind of see where Brummie is coming from tbh. That UEFA Cup stunt last year was crazy, but yet they are in the exact same position to have to do it again.

It's one thing to bring in players and they don't quite work out, but he isn't even getting them in, even after he has lost so many important ones. It's a pretty weird situation.

  6. Good player but he's gone - forget it. We are in the Championship and we've got all manner of shyte to come if we get stressed about what our ex players are up to. Stephen Carr, about 33 years old played at Old Trafford today ffs.

Ditto. I was really disappointed that we only got a season from Bassong, ans  Spurs got a bargain. No point in looking over our shoulder though he's gone and reminding ourselves about it is just depressing. Let's move on and have a great season ourselves.

to be fair, 8m rising to 12m is hardly a bargain.

If he establishes himself as a top centre back for them which i think he will, it's money well spent.

When Man United sign him in three years time for £25 million then it will be clear Tottenham got him for a bargain.

  7. Have been baffled by the lack of interest in VDV especially as he is seemingly available on the cheap.

I didn't watch much of Real Madrid admittedly, but my understanding is that he was pretty poor for them.

They hardly gave him a sniff. Based on what he has done previously and even internationally I just expected far more interest in him especially as the price being talked about is £4million - £6 million.

  8. Happy for Bassong tbh. Great player. Just such a shame he ended up at Tottenham. I would suggest people get over his leaving quickly because he is only going to get better and you will end up killing yourselves over the frustration.

I'm just really not looking forward to stupid Tottenham fans now raving over him after rubbishing him when he was first linked with them, because he "got Newcastle relegated" . Freakin' cretins.

it's the way he left that rankles....i want to leave but i'm want all the cash aswell hence i'll whing a lot and only put a transfer request in if absolutely necessary to get my way.

sorry to rattle on about this folks but it's really pissed me off with many players.

For me I really can't fault any player who wanted to leave and moaned about it tbh. I completely blame the owner as the whole summer has been a ridiculously unstable time and no one including the players have known what the hell has been going on. This situation coupled along with relegation would have been too much for many to take. It is especially hard for me to be mad at Bassong because he was one of very few who always did his best and gave a good account of himself.
