  1. Colo & Taylor are our best centrebacks, they both need to play. I was all for Bassong being given a go a centre back but we are in the crud so we need our better players playing as much as possible.

Bassong and Cacapa are so far ahead of Taylor it's daft man

Taylor is in the team as the big stopper. Those two are far better defenders but pair them with Coloccini and we might be vulnerable in the air. We are even with Taylor in there tbh.

he stops f*** all and backs off all the time though. Anyone would think he's the sweeper

If there is one thing that I find unforgiveable in a defender it is when they continously back off an advancing attacker. I hate it with a passion. It is probably my biggest problem with Taylor. Justin Hoyte is another who specializes in this brainless tactic.

Face up to the player, try and time it right and get a challenge in. I have seen Taylor back off till he is literally just outside the 6 yard box. It is criminal. If anything you want to make sure you get your challenge in before the opposing player is in the penalty box for goodness sake.

    It makes me cry.

  2. Even in the West Brom game, yes we were diabolical in the second half, but we were still in the lead and had done well in the first half to be in that situation, but the atmosphere got so edgy when we were struggling, it couldn't have made things any easier for the players.

  3. If Martins played in a team that attacked well consistently, he would soon settle and produce consistently himself.

I really don't think people appreciate how dysfunctional the team has been since he cam to the club.

People keep comparing him to an experienced and seasoned prem player in Owen. However, Martins is nowhere near as established and he is still trying to figure things out as a young striker who only became a regular first teamer after joining us.

I'm not surprised to hear he is amazing in training but is struggling to translate this into performances in actual games. He will definitely get better and I hope it will be at Newcastle.

  4. I love the way everyone loves Cisse now, after he scored one goal against us and then hit the post.

The abuse that was dished out whenever he was mentioned this summer was unreal.

    Interesting ...

  5. I think the thing we also have to remember is that Martins has done well to get into a lot of the positions he got into, even though his final ball then let him down. I think with a run of games he will be more hit than miss, although he will always still have those odd moments.

He brings such an explosiveness to our attacks and defenders are clearly unsettled by him. You only have to look at that slip by the defender in the first half. These sorts of things tend to happen around him I have noticed.

Owen has been very good but we have to figure out a way to have them both on the pitch. Owen would capitalize on the uncertainty Martins causes in other teams defences.

Dropping Martins for an Owen and Shola partnership, would soon have us begging for Martins to be re-introduced to the team. That I am sure of.

  6. How refreshing to have just been able to appreciate his actual play.

Didn't even have a single silly tackle, not one dodgy moment.

Proud of the guy. Hope he keeps it up. If he manages to truly turn the corner after all he's been through, he will turn out to be a really special player for us and a special person.

    Keep it up.

  7. Martins definitely deserves some criticism as he does do the most frustrating things at times, but this is the player he is, and he will always be. He can also produce something out of nothing a lot of times also, and to be fair he does ultimately tend to score the goals.

I would say though, that last night, in the first half, was the first time in forever where we were constantly in attack mode and Martins continuously got on the ball in positions to make things happen. It has happened so rarely at his time at Newcastle that you wonder if he was struggling to get used to it. He's so often just been left to chase lost causes.

If we played like we did in the first half all the time, I have no doubt Martins would settle down and be a lot more productive on the whole. Lets hope this is indeed the case.

  8. I do think the second half performance was partly due to fatigue as we did work extremely hard in the first half.

Also, Kinnear was just so desperate for a win, he couldn't help himself with the more defensive approach.

Hopefully, now the first win under Kinnear is out of the way, we he can just loosen up a bit and be more positive over the 90.

To Kinnear's credit he got the starting lineup right, which was a pretty big deal tonight.

  9. f*** off those of you saying it was Coloccini's fault for the second, that should have been the other centre half's ball, colo had the man and should have just shielded him out of the way while Taylor intercepted it. They were way too far apart and far too deep from the midfield too, unorganisation yet again causing problems.

Wouldn't really say it was either of the centre halves fault to be honest. The ball through to Miller was brilliant, not sure what Coloccini could've done differently, made him look a bit dumb but the ball was brilliantly placed and weighted.

Absolutely huge 3 points, going into games against Villa, Fulham, Wigan, Stoke and Boro. If we can take 10 points fromm those 5 games I'll be happy.

It was whoever's job to organise the defence's fault. They were about 15 yards away from eachother ffs, there was a chasm to send the ball into, it wasn't a good ball by any means.

It seems to me that all of the Taylor fanbois try to blame Coloccini all the time and all the Coloccini fanbois try to blame Taylor all the time.

Can it never be none of their faults like?

    The centre backs were blameless.

Duff's fault for losing the ball so stupidly.

    The scapegoat is Duff.

  11. f***ing hell, how did we invite them into the game like that? Embarrassing second half.

Still did well enough to get us three points, some confidence and some breathing space. We need to do a whole lot better with Aston Villa coming up though.

    ./

I am not liking Kinnear's tactics at protecting leads. How can you replace your two best pacy outlets with players who are slower, but will be fulfilling the same exact roles. Thank the lord for Damien Duff, or the ball would never have left our half. Xisco for Martins was espeically pointless.

I thought Xisco was coming on for Shola! That was definitely a crazy sub.

Mowbray is clueless. He lost the game by not starting Miller. Terrible move but thank God he did it.

Jonas on one leg is better than Geremi, might as well have kept him on.
