I really think the club just made a decision to wait until after the Euros to finalize any moves. In the meantime I think we have been making enquiries with clubs in regards to transfer fees and also gauging players interest in joining us.

The Van der Vaart bit is just an extra bit of fantasy but I do think it could happen. I'm an eternal optimist.

What is especially intriguing about this guy is that he is still only 21. You would imagine he could still improve quite a bit and if we did sign him we would get years of service out of him.

One of many things with Turan that has impressed is that he valuates (sp, right word?) situations really well, He dribbles when it's the right situation, he keeps the ball in posession and passes it instead and plays it simple when it's not the right moment to make a dribble.

This is a big problem both Zoggy and Milner have. They therefore make the game far more difficult than it should be.

The guy just seems to be a very heady and intelligent player. Very, very mature level of play for a 21 year old. An absolute crime that he was left out of the first game.

Played pretty well so far tonight in my opinion. Some nice touches, creates himself a fair bit of space and has a bit of class about him.

 

I'm sure he would thrive off having Martins, Owen and Viduka in front of him.

 

 

Well i would not Buy Turan to play in a midfield three if that was what you meant?

 

I think he'd work well on the left of a midfield three.

 

I would rather like to see him in the last third of the pitch as much as possible instead of him chasing around all over the pitch. Use his qualitys in the best possible way, and i dont think we would see the best of him in a midfield three. I would rather see two dynamic players there with good passing and the third being a real creative playmaker who makes things tick and can find the space between the opponents midfield and back four..

Add another £5 million then.

Something I'd like to add, another young English top 4 reject spent some time on loan at two different Premiership clubs, but was not really going to be in with a sniff of first team football when he was to return to his parent club, is now being touted as a player beyond your means, one David Bentley. You've got to speculate to accumulate...

Your far too sensible for these shores. How I wanted us to sign Bentley after his first stint at Norwich, but it was the same type of things being said about Guthrie and Larsson now.

There is no guarantee these players will become as good as Bentley, but it is well worth taking a flier on a few of these types of players due to their reasonably cheap prices and potential for improvement.

Really liking the look of this guy. Hardly ever has a misplaced pass or waste of posession. Very mature.

Nice to hear from someone who has actually seen him play.  So GG what kind of player is he and what do you recall him doing particularly well?

 

A little lightweight, but he's a good playmaker, from what I saw you could liken him to someone like Luka Modric, small but strings play together and has an eye for a through ball. Obviously not on that level but I reckon he's got the potential to play for a top 10 aspirationally top 6 side regularly and would be a good squad player for you.

Arda really seems to be an intelligent player. I like his movement and composure.

I think this is what is Tuncay's main problem. Seems to be a bit of a bonehead and very hasty in what he does.

Elano was gash for half the season.

In his first season in the premiership. People are way too harsh on Elano. He already showed he could be outstanding in this league and just didn't quite have the stamina to maintain it over the full premier league season. I'm sure he will only get better and more consistent.
