If the wages were going to deprive us of a new striker then I doubt we would even consider Sol tbh. Edit - For the record I think Campbell is also still a better CB than Taylor at this moment in time.
-
People will bring up his goals and assists from last season as evidence of how good he is, but imo if you slot Ireland into the same position in that Villa team with Young, Downing, Agbonlahor and Carew ahead of him, I think he betters those goal and assist numbers.
-
Man City have to do this because due to their ridiculous transfer policy and the huge squad they now have, they have to move on a lot of their players, who are actually very good players. The irony is that a lot of the players they are essentially going to be giving away, are proven prem talents and performers. However, the supposed improved players Man City have brought in are yet to prove anthing in this league. Will be interesting to see how it all pans out.

Nouble is more of a Carew/Carlton Cole than a Heskey I would say.

As has already been mentioned on here. They are going to end up improving everyone else and indirectly shooting themselves in the foot. From my point of view swapping Ireland for Milner is pretty much even (Milner offering a bit more in work rate and defensive effort and Ireland offering a bit more creatively and going forward imo), and then you give them Bellamy who is a better striker than anything they have, plus some extra cash to play with. Very good stuff for Villa indeed.

People talk about pace, but I can't say with any certainty that our other options in Taylor and Williamson are any faster than Sol.
-
From what I remember from one of the statements about this, the age limit thing was more to do with players we were paying a fee for rather than free transfers on reasonable wages.
-
I still rate Campbell as a better centre back than both Steven Taylor (always liked him at right back over centre back) and Mike Williamson, and so I'm very happy about this move. Coloccini will benefit hugely from playing alongside Campbell, who is fantastic at communicating with the rest of the backline and keeping them organised. I live with Arsenal supporters and so watched a good number of their games last season, and Campbell was really good.

Was he the long haired one who played very similar to Jonas but with an end product. (i know ive just described most offensive south americans) He was the bald guy who played the defensive midfield/holding role for Uruguay. Very good ball winner.

I was going to have a bit of a rant/moan about it, but can't be bothered. At the end of the day some people are just extraordinarily negative. We're linked to a player and some people just enjoy discussing the possibility, however far fetched. It's typically what is done during the summer. However, due to some kind of inferioirty complex or defense mechanism, this is apparently too much for some, because if we don't sign them it apparently makes them suicidal. Very strange.

Just look at his face in that picture. The guy just doesn't know what's going on.
-
Great summary of Jenas' career then. So true.
-
What? No! Don't you remember me saying I wanted him last summer. Great potential and still just 21.
-
Jay Simpson Yes please!

WTF, this is real? I mean real as in a paper link not just 100% made up stuff rather than 90%. It's been all over the french media. Look at the previous few pages.

Supposed one of the best finishers to come from Claire-Fontaine. Southgate playing him upfront by himself was f***ing mental. All he needs is a big guy to watch his back. We've got one of those.

Jeremie Aliadiere ... wow. Talk about drifting into obscurity.
-
Was there loads of them, like?

The reality is that Flamini had one decent season at Arsenal, having not done much at Arsenal prior to that, and having done nothing since at AC Milan. Why do people think he is so unattainable? We are the type of club he should be looking to move to actually, and he would be a good player for us for sure. Would be awesome. Hope it's true. As far Ben Arfa. He's still a player of great potential, but he hasn't come anywhere near to fulfilling his promise at all. Now he can't even hold down a place in the Marseille team. Why is he considered so unrealistic then? They have actually made him available haven't they? Hope it's true we are trying for him also. Maybe he needs to have a go in a different league, and if we do get him and he does well, he's young enough to then be sold on at a big profit if we can't keep him. Let's not feel to sorry for ourselves guys. Not sure if we are in for these players or whether we will be getting them, but they are certainly not too good for us by any stretch of the imagination.
-
Erm...I'm going to go with yes. Well I hope we find him a really good partner who can take some pressure of him then. I hope we don't end up going 4-5-1 and putting him under too much pressure to score all the goals. However not sure we have any combination of two central midfielders that would work in a 4-4-2. Worrying situation really. Considering where we are and what we hope to achieve (not being relegated) the pressure will be there for everyone not just Carroll. True ...
-
Why shouldn't he? Never said he shouldn't! I just think at the moment our best chance will be with three in midfield, and I think it might be too much responsibility to ask Carroll to play upfront alone. Ideally we sign a good striker to partner him, as well as a really good dynamic central midfielder that would improve us in a 4-4-2. The odds of these signings though? Not so sure.
