Judging from his YouTube clips he looks like he could play rw atleast if called upon

From his match history he has never played out wide. He's an out and out striker/second striker/attacking midfielder.

Seems like he's too good for us right now if I'm being totally honest. Unless he's happy playing out wide whilst Wilson is fit I don't see why he'd want to come here. He's playing for Benfica every week and they are in Europe.

He's been available all summer for £30 million Euros plus add ons.

They want a different type of striker to lead their line, which is why they have made him available so they can cash in.

Etitike didn't sell me because he looked like another tall giraffe-type player that can't head the fucking ball. Absolutely exhausting to watch those guys you know.

As for this lad my first take away is that the youtube video has a lot of balls not actually going into nets. Not great for me if the best clips you can find of a dude are a bunch of almost-assists. Tbf, I did not watch the whole thing.

  4. Was mentioned in a recent article on breakingthelines.com, when discussing Man Utd replacing Ronaldo. Decent little write up on him.

    Goncalo Ramos – Benfica

One of the reasons why the striker market is looking so bare at the moment is because some of the big available targets were snapped up early on. Erling Haaland secured his move to Manchester City, and Liverpool spent big on Benfica’s Darwin Nunez, beating United to his signature.

Nunez is an excellent player for sure, but the reported £85 million transfer fee has certainly raised eyebrows, especially when Goncalo Ramos plays in the same side, and could be available for a fraction of the price.

Ramos looks destined for the top, and it would be no surprise to see him making a big move to Europe in the future, just like Nunez did. His defensive contribution is elite, with smarterscout giving him an 86 ‘disrupt’ score and a 93 ‘recover’ score.

In addition, in his short career, he has demonstrated a good finishing ability and goalscoring sense, scoring 7 goals from 8.9 xG in his 29 appearances for Benfica in the 2021/22 Portuguese Primeira Liga.

He has also shown a good dribbling ability and is an extremely physically strong forward, which allows him to hold the ball up well.

He is a versatile player who keeps defenders guessing with a variety of movements, regularly running off the shoulder, pinning centre-backs, or dropping into midfield to collect the ball. He even featured as an attacking midfielder in big Champions League matches, as Benfica occasionally changed their shape from a 4-4-2 to a 4-2-3-1 in that competition.

So what’s the problem? He sounds like the perfect option right? Well, probably not yet. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to say that he’d be able to make the step up from academy breakthrough at Benfica to Cristiano Ronaldo replacement at Manchester United so quickly, it is a very big jump.

Ramos would be an absolutely fantastic signing for United to make if he was brought in as back-up to Ronaldo, or in addition to a Ronaldo replacement, but he’s probably too inexperienced to make that leap just yet.

It's odd that no one has gone in for Tielemans yet. I wonder if he's indicated that he'll run down his contract.

Seems such an obvious signing for Man Utd at great value, but instead they've gone for Rabiot and that overbearing mother of his.

The man sneak dissed me yo

I never claimed I was watching every single game, although I do watch a few! I've just really also got into the scouting and stats side of the game over the last few years. Find it all very interesting and informative.

KaKa's great at using FBRef and reading Transfermarkt these days, like.

There's so much great info out there on players, aside from watching them, and yes I do look at a bunch of that stuff for sure. Did see a fair bit of Ramos for Benfica last season too though as I was wanting to check out Nunez who we were being strongly linked with.

Now, I must admit, the main reason I did even notice Ramos name initially when watching those games, was due to having signed him on FM a couple of years back

Three goals and three assists in three games this season (2 CL qualifiers and 1 league game). Get him signed.

Seems like a great time to pick him up as he's seemingly coming into his own now, and would have a really good season with them as a full time starter if he stayed, but it just so happens they want a different type of striker and so we can take advantage of that.

Mostly played in and around Darwin Nunez last season and made some waves, which is when we first probably noticed him, as we were looking at Darwin for a while.

Is this lad an out and out striker or can he play wide forward ? As in will we still need another wide player or will he cover it ?

Ramos is a striker that links play and then gets in good positions to finish. He can also play as a second striker or an attacking midfielder dropping off another striker that looks to get in behind more.

He'd be able to play as our lone forward in the 4-3-3 really well, but could also play off Callum Wilson at times if we want to be more aggressive going forward. He doesn't play as a wide forward.

The Dieng one is strange. By all accounts he’s 5th choice at Marseille and apparently turned up for pre season overweight and out of shape. I’ve never seen him before, I usually rely on @KaKa and @McCormick for good information on these players, not sure if you lads know much about him ?

Haven't seen much of this guy at all. so don't really know his game. Seems to be highly thought of though. I like the Ramos link a lot better. Think he look sideal for the current system we play.

Pulisic would be class for us. He's on about £150k/week so there might have to be a bit of negotiation there but I reckon if we had him start 30-odd games he could be relied on for 7-8 goals no problem.

Honestly, he would have probably had a hat trick this past weekend with some of those passes Bruno was threading through.

Do we know exactly what Bruno is getting salary wise? Think it's a bit more than £150k a week, and so don't think that £150k wage would be an issue for Pulisic.

I said first that KaKa (the poster) was class. Why don't you all go find someone else to fawn over?

Man, I'll no doubt say the wrong thing in a few days and they'll all be cussing me out again, so I'm not taking any of you lot seriously at all ;D

I remember you banging on and on about Joelinton when he was absolutely rubbish, saying he needed to play deeper. Honestly I thought you were a fucking idiot.

You were right and I was wrong. Never will I doubt you again.

To be honest I was just looking at the roles he had played at Hoffenheim, and it was under Nagelsmann, who absolutely loved him.

And then here he was under Bruce playing as a striker that was about 50 yards away from everyone else defending inside our own box, and he was getting killed for not doing anything.

Felt sick for the guy at the time.

I always find it interesting when someone has the inside track on who we aren't so interested in but rarely has the inside track on who we are interested in.

A very specific set of sources.

Yeah, that tweet from Graves is a bit strange.

Ramos would definitely improve the squad and is in line with what we were hoping to get from Ekitike, as far as a highly rated young striker with a decent amount of experience and good production at first team level. The fee is also in line with what we had agreed to pay for Ekitike too.

The Portuguese journalist seemed quite certain, so I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Wow ... this is such a great post man

Really shows why his scouting numbers can look so great, but at the same time why it doesn't really translate on the pitch.

The guy is probably an elite level talent, but that lack of movement and effort to get in space to receive the ball man. Shocking.

If someone somehow manages to get him switched on in that respect he'd be so good, but that is a heck of a task in itself.

  16. 45 minutes ago, McCormick said:

They want to sell though. Their manager thinks he can get better for 30m (according to that Portuguese journalist).

Apparently their manager just wants a different type of striker. More of a striker that looks to get in behind and finish, as he is going to be using Rafa Silva as the more withdrawn second striker in their two striker lineup.

Reading up on Ramos he appears to be more of a complete forward that looks to drop into space and link play before then looking to get in the box to finish. So not quite what they want upfront partnering Rafa Silva, but is ideally suited as a lone striker in the 4-3-3 system we are currently playing.
