Nothing worse than a new signing coming in and getting injured early doors. So demoralising. And Hojlund has to be a concern at this point with the injuries he keeps picking up. Not in the mood for injuries piling up for Newcastle this season at all. Really glad Mitchell brought in his performance guy. Hope that really pays off.

Caught up on this later. Looked like there was some fantastic play down the right from both teams. Oscar Bobb for Man City and Chukwueze for Milan looked really dangerous.

Prior to last season and a new manager coming in, people on here would have been telling you this guy is shit. Similar to how they have spoken about the likes of DCL and Kelechi when we were linked with both earlier this summer. I find this sort of thing incredibly fascinating. Can't even imagine how many players are just stuck in rotten situations, under the wrong manager, and have been written off because of it.

Did you lot ever try Kulu in one of your advanced 8 positions? Think he could look really decent in there instead.

I think they might be are after more direct and faster wingers. And not sure they were happy with how he played when they moved him inside at times last season. Not 100% sure to be honest.

Yes, but we were quickly told by all and sundry that we overpaid. To be fair to our recruitment team, if they like a player they back their judgement and fork out, regardless of what the general opinion is. It was the same with Gordon too. I remember it being referred to as a Bournemouth signing on here, and it was seen as an overpayment when we spent £40 million. Similar to what people have said about some of the players we've been linked to this summer. But then their values have all shot up, once they come in and over perform.

Yes, easy to say that now, but this wasn't the conversation back then.

Okay, well I think we view mega signings differently then. Because for me those are signings that are pretty much sure bankers, that are fully proven and guaranteed successes. If we go out and sign an Olise or Kudus this summer for that right wing those would be mega signings.

If he had a good pre season, he would have certainly had a chance to. At the minimum though, he would have been a quality backup on the right, and others would have left the club.

I'm really not that keen on Madueke. Chelsea paid around £30 million for him though, and so he will cost around £40 million is all I said. There's enough there that I could see him doing better than expected if he signed, even though I'm not that sold on him, and so if that's their choice so be it. I couldn't tell you how good the PSV team Madueke played for in the Dutch league was compared to the Feyenoord team Minteh featured in. And so not sure how best to compare them. Also, Howe has now come out himself and said he was looking forward to working with Minteh this summer and evaluating him. He has himself said he didn't want to lose him. We had to sell Minteh due to difficult circumstances and have done, and so I don't know why he keeps being spoken of as though we got rid of him because he wasn't wanted or rated.

Yeah, I just think the approach has always been to sign players that are highly thought of by the manager/recruitment team and that is the priority. For what it's worth, I'm not particularly keen on Madueke, but if that's who their choice is, I'm pretty certain it will work out well. At one point the likes of Diaby and Szoboszlai looked like they would have been great additions, and they have proved to be pretty disappointing.

We really haven't made any mega signings and don't need to. Just need to get a player the manager rates and believes will excel in our setup. Same as we have been doing already, and having success with.

Can't see Chelsea accepting less than £40 million for Madueke. £40 million plus some add ons will probably be the best case scenario.

Definitely not the same player he was, but still pretty effective, especially if he gets a focal point to play off again in Toney, like he had with Kane I think. Pretty crazy he still managed 17 goals and 10 assists last season in the league. Be interesting to see how it plays out.

It's astonishing man. I mean, I'm really looking forward to seeing who comes in, but folks are losing it completely.

More pace and directness than Kulu and more clinical than Johnson IMO. Kulusevski is being made available this summer it seems.
