That would be utterly depressing.

If he wins he will be in there lobbying to stay as he has been there and done that and can stave off relegation now that the fans are behind him and the players with Ashley gone. And so they may as well keep him to see how it goes until the summer.

He will be manipulating things in some manner as long as he is here and is why we need to move this man on. It's why I will be finding it very hard to be excited about Sunday and getting a win over Spurs. The situation is a really messy one.

After everyone telling us for the past three years what a wonderful man and manager he is, maybe this is how it must end. With him finally revealing what we all already knew to the world when he didn't even have to.

Just couldn't maintain some dignity because ultimately he's super bitter and annoyed that he has no chance of managing the club under the new owners because he is shite. Considering where we are at the minute, it might well be far more prudent to go with this kind of manager, as we have completely lost any kind of structure or discipline on the pitch. It is a complete and utter mess.

Yeah, think he would have eventually done well at Arsenal, but they were never going to be patient with him, as they were trying to be right back in that top 4 place they were starting to lose.

Could see him do very well with a club like Newcastle, especially coming after a joker like Bruce. Everyone will be behind him and the atmosphere around the place is going to be immense.

I refuse to believe that it is intentional. The intent from Newcastle side has to have been that a new 3 year term is to be automatically renewed after a 3 year period has been completed, but rather that Charnley have put forward or accepted bad wording to the contract that is not clear and open for opportunistic interpretation which is now the dispute....surely?

 

Purely speculation from my side, but is it fair to assume that Newcastle ownership feels we have a case for terminating the contract and paying out compensation for remainder of this season, while Bruce feels he has a case for demanding that they compensate for a full term, and that we have offered him a compromise to get it settled sooner rather than later?

 

This certainly alters my view and feeling towards the new owners as to why he isn't gone yet. 

I think it is that straight forward.

You have to remember that this is Ashley we are talking about, think he wanted to give the guy the typical 6 year or 8 year contracts he usually does, but knew the fans would have been enraged right from the outset. And so he was sneaky about it.

Once he has someone that he knows is a complete patsy he's happy to keep them around forever.

Think a club like Newcastle suits him better than an Arsenal or PSG did, as he seems to do a great job of lifting up clubs that don't have as big a reputation so would make sense from that standpoint.

Also has some prem experience from his stint with the Gunners, which would be useful due to our current predicament.

Yes, absolutely. I imagine we were all set to sack Bruce and then word of the large payoff got back to PIF and they were like 'Hell No!'.

I imagine they have been looking into if there are any ways to bring that number down, unless it is absolutely necessary as there is no way out of it.

The awkward hiring of Graeme Jones and him essentially looking like the new manager is also beginning to make more sense now.

I think it was the best way they could manage bringing someone new in, without getting rid of Bruce because they couldn't, even though at that point they probably knew they had to, as he was taking us down.

I know the Athletic put out an article back in July which apparently gives some clarity on it, but at that time I didn't really care if he was here for another season or 10 as long as Ashley owned us so didn't really pay attention to what was said on here. 

 

It sounds like after each year the contract resets to three years, and so essentially, it can never be run down. It's a never ending contract.

Basically Ashley hired Bruce to be here forever, until he managed to sell the club and then Bruce would be rewarded with a full payoff due to the contract never running down.
