My guess is he will be relieved of his duties very soon and Jones will be caretaker against Brighton while they line up a new manager. I do feel giving our precarious position in the league, the upcoming fixtures and our poor squad, we may need a firefighter type manager until the end of the season just to keep us up. But not Big Sam please… dunno who that person could be mind!

Any remotely capable manager would keep us up, as our team has enough quality in it and with another few players in January now we should be fine. The buzz around the club is going to be massive too and along with the crowd the players are going to be spurred on big time as they'll all want to impress whoever is coming in.

In part, my view is that this is the way the game has already gone. So I'd rather take part and compete, than be compliant cannon fodder for the rest.

Of course I'd prefer if there was a level playing field to start with, but there already isn't, and we didn't cause that. There are already inherent advantages for the likes of Man U, which means I won't be crying for them. They're paying Ronaldo's wages ffs.

I don't know why Spurs are even in the conversation in the self selected big 6.

My main feeling is sheer relief to be rid of Ashley, and if they want to grow the club sustainably and sensibly, actually reinvesting in the club and it's infrastructure at long last, I'd be more than happy with that approach.

But if they want to blow a fortune and give us a wild ride for a few years, I'm not going to say I'd have any problem with that at all either. Other fans have had that, so why not us? As I say, we didn't cause that problem.

So either level it up for everyone, or if you're happy to accept an uneven playing field before now, then fans of the big 6 need to put their big boy pants on and accept that if you play with crocodiles, you might get bit.

Personally, I'd rather build like a Leicester, but not have our best players poached every season by a self entitled 'elite', but that's just me.

    Today I'm just delighted

I think football is really beginning to get interesting.

The margins in wealth are disappearing as well as the margins in the availability of highly qualified people as the game has gotten more popular. We are increasingly seeing even the lesser clubs have highly capable people involved in their operations.

Seems to me the competition is going to be blown wide open with the likes of Leicester, Everton, Aston Villa and now Newcastle being far more capable than recently, and I imagine there will be more to come.

I think we can safely park the moral high ground around owners of a football club until the rest of the world puts its house in order. Governments across the globe happy to trade with Saudi yet NUFC are shithouses for being potentially owned by them.  Ok then.

Exactly, the football clubs and fans have absolutely no say in any of these matters as governments are happy to do business with these other countries and this is the only reason they can even buy clubs at all.

These countries have completely different cultural and religious ideals and therefore completely different ideas of morality that go centuries back, and so I'm not entirely sure how those are ever going to change. Seemingly the western world has accepted those differences and has decided to keep them separate from any business dealings provided they don't force their ideals on the west and vice versa.

I find it strange that this is then used as a stick to beat football fans with when these lot are then allowed to buy a football club, which they can do nothing about. The fans are then criticized and expected to revolt against it, because they are now deemed to be adhering to the cultural and religious ideals of the owners. Incredible.

I mean Man United used to break the transfer record on the regular, it’s literally always been the same few teams winning the league

I feel like it's always been the same too, but now other teams are freaking out because they are no longer guaranteed their spots at the top. If anything aren't we now moving towards a more equal playing field, with more clubs getting better backing?

It's increasingly going to be about who does a better job of running their clubs. Simply throwing a ton of money at things isn't going to automatically guarantee anything. See Everton as a recent example of that.

  5. Wasn't there some Portuguese guy that was mentioned as who would have come in if it went through last year? Think he was then also linked with Spurs, but can't remember the name.

This is a small part of the torment we've had over the years under this absolute cunt, but fuck me, that's my daughter on there and she's coming up to 7.5 now, still haven't been able to take her or my 9 year old into SJP.  Unbelievable.

This announcement can't come quick enough.

That campaign was absolutely phenomenal man   [emoji38]

Pictures from all over the globe telling Pardew to clear off was so brutal. The man was such an ass

We're on the verge of being the richest team in the world and people are mentioning Howe and Potter ffs...

I mean ... the lot buying the club have mentioned time and time again it's not going to be a Man City or PSG type situation and more of a longer term developmental project, so it's not about how rich a club it's going to be.

Having said that I don't think it will be either of those managers coming in, but we'll see. It's not Bruce and so I am over the moon. As long as it is all well thought out, which it seems everything has been, it's all going to be really fun to watch unfold.

I’d like to see Vieira do well personally

Yeah, same here. Was worried for him taking the Palace job as it seemed a lot of work was needed there, but seeing the players he managed to get in and how quickly he has already changed their play, I've been impressed. Think they'll continue to go from strength to strength under him.

Palace are shite and will be bottom 5 come May. They play more attractive than under Hodgson but I doubt they’ll actually improve much if at all.

I really like what Vieira is doing, and so I disagree.

As Edouard and Olise continue to settle in they'll only get better. Also have Eze coming back going into the new year.

Agree - he was always involved and worked hard. He also had some nice touches, battled well and went on a few decent runs. But it’s the same old thing with him, there’s just no end product and there will never will be unless he’s coached correctly. He also needs some sort of tactical plan to work in his favour - maybe we work a plan that involves him making a late run at the back post against the full back with crosses coming in from the right - I know it’s a basic suggestion, but basic seems to be nonexistent for us. There’s no thought whatsoever in any our our attacks.

It doesn’t matter what he does anyways because we are absolutely shite and have no tactical approach in place to utilise any of our players in a component way.

The exact kind of thing Rafa would be drilling into him every single training session.

Think Rafa would actually have liked him ironically. Think he's the type that will do whatever he's told and would really benefit from greater structure and a lot of detailed instruction, and in a team that functions well on the whole.
