He’s 31 this year, just been relegated and a totally different type of player to Bruno.

I’m not your nemesis. I think you’re brilliant. You just come out with outrageousness - but I mostly appreciate it these days.

Barkley has played the same role as Bruno this season, as the number 6 at Luton, dictating all their play from deep.

It's why he was getting so many plaudits earlier in the season, as he has looked very good in that role. Incredibly press resistant and his passing in those deeper areas was very good.

You speak as if we're in. Man Utd could deny us next weekend.

If they win next weekend against Man City then they'll fully deserve to be in it.

I won't be putting a single penny on them doing so though.

    Think they'll get destroyed.

  3. Europa League was actually an enjoyable watch this season and would have been great, but don't think we'd have gotten away with rotating our team significantly in it it next season.

Conference League allows us to really rotate the team and use the likes of Anderson, Miley, Minteh, Alex Murphy and even Kuol.

And we'll of course also be one of the favourites too.

Could end up being very fruitful for the overall development of the team.

To be fair, we've got almost an entire starting XI out and are clearly the dictionary definition of on the beach.

Diego Carlos needs to go next year, though.

There's a completely different edge to Palace now. A ruthlessness going forward.

They have us help too and tore Man United to shreds.

Forgetting him missing that sitter. He absolutely transforms our midfield. Hes everything we’ve been missing. Athletic, wins the ball, drives forward and been really good in possession.

There was talk of him needing to be upgraded in midfield on here. So easy to look past the difference he makes in there.

The real issue is upgrading Longstaff, so that he has more quality around him to make up for some of his rougher edges.

Brings way too much to our midfield to be taken out of there.

    Stats show otherwise considerably.

He would also be a centre back playing left back like Burn, except without the height, and with similar pace.

If you've never seen the guy play, you really don't have to comment. My God man.

How in the world does Kelly have similar pace to Dan Burn?!

Southampton were a top 8 side for 4 seasons and their recruitment and managerial appointments were cracking. Just took one bad appointment (Hughes) selling one too many star without replacing with the next Mane, van Dijk, Etc and it came tumbling down and was hard to stop the slide. Not to the same extent but we've seen similar at Stoke and Swansea over the recent years too.

It's not a criticism of Brighton because their setup seems sound, there's no real alternative to what they're doing there other than if one year they tell their Caicedos and Cucarellas that they're not leaving, but the model is buy low, sell high...it's a risk still.

As I just explained in my post replying to @Dr.Spaceman Brighton's whole setup is far more advanced than any of these clubs you've mentioned. Can't see it being the same at all.

Not sure anyone from the outside looking in can say how big each operation is tbh. Bet there's loads going on that even superfans of each club aren't privy to.

Bloom has a long history in sports data analytics and is at the forefront of that. His whole setup is based on his own unique model that he created.

This influences every decision they make regarding staff recruitment and player recruitment, and the model has been bearing top end results for ages now and is well established.

Completely different from anything Southampton were ever doing.

What a bizarre design choice, at a time when landline area code has never been less relevant

Postcode district would still be naff but would at least make more sense.

115 would have made the most sense.

So were Southampton, but there becomes a point where one appointment that doesn't click, or one bad window, and they fall drastically.

Seen Southampton get compared to Brighton a few times on here, but it was nowhere near the same level or calibre of operation.

No, what I mean is he’s not good enough technically. Not a good enough passer, - either short or long range - can’t beat a man, can’t take set pieces, can’t shoot with any conviction and has shown an almost complete inability to impose himself upon the midfields of the best teams. Good player, not great, and will be more Nunes than Rodri at City.

You are wrong in every single way, astonishingly enough.

This might not be the sport for you to follow, if you don't understand it to this extent.

    My goodness.

  12. 1 minute ago, Paulinho said:

I really think he’d fail miserably at Arsenal or City. Just not quite technically good enough (and chronically immobile). A Premier League team with Champions League ambitions (i.e. us) or somewhere like PSG is his level.

Bruno not good enough technically?! No chance.

As far as mobility goes Arsenal were playing Jorginho most of last season and he is slower, weaker and less physical than Bruno.

Yes the 30m will affect other areas too, and obviously more so. But then we at least actually improve our starting eleven at the same time for “only” 15m extra and lower wages.

What I think we should do:

    1. Go with Pope for next season and use that 15m extra to get our primary targets for other areas. It doesn’t mean that Dubravka/Karius will be backup anymore. Both likely to leave. Get a decent keeper on loan.

    2. Go for an upgrade that improves us now in the short term as well as being likely to be a top top keeper for the next 10+ years.

I genuinely don’t think we will sign Ramsdale, at least that’s what I hope. Not saying that he’s an awful player or anything. Just not the route I wish us to go. I also don’t think the price will be as low as 15m. Hypothetically speaking.

Ah, okay. Was just trying to understand what you thought we should do instead.

Going to be an interesting summer. Let's see how it plays out.

  14. 2 minutes ago, Ikon said:

IF they go for him then obviously there will have been calculations made, but it doesn’t mean that we sort out most of our more important (imo) priorities. They might think it’s worth  getting him in for 15m at the cost of other areas. It doesn’t mean that I agree with it.

of course I am super very happy and excited to continue with Dubravka, that’s exactly what I’ve been saying….

So you believe the £15 million comes at the cost of other areas, even though, we don't know that for sure yet, but fine. I'll accept that.

And so spending upwards of £30 million on the Georgian or whoever else, will surely further hamper our business in other areas then.

Otherwise, the only other option is to stick with the likes of Dubravka, Karius, or whichever other journeyman makeshift backup that is cheap enough to not affect other business like you've claimed.

    Is that not correct?

  15. Just now, Ikon said:

Of course even 15m “only” would also affect our other business, don’t be silly. I don’t mind spending money on a keeper but if we do it then let’s make sure that player really improves us too. Quality over quantity imo.

If they are choosing to spend that on Ramsdale instead, do you not think that is a calculated move on their part? We'll soon find out how much it affects the other business we do. Time will surely tell.

Seems you are happy to continue with the likes of Dubravka if we can't spend upwards of £30 million on a goalie. I disagree with this completely.

  16. 1 minute ago, Ikon said:

Well, considering how many other areas we have I would much much rather spend that money on other positions unless we improve on Pope. Or pay a bit more if we MUST sign one now. I’m not against getting a better keeper in for say 30m or so, but I’m against spending 15-20m on someone who doesn’t really improve our 1st team.

I doubt £15 million is going to affect our other business. It is a fair price for a top quality back up keeper, especially with our first choice coming off a big injury.

Spending £30 million on another keeper is far more likely to affect our other business though. No need for that if we can avoid it, which we can with this deal.

Pope and Ramsdale is a great pairing for the next couple of seasons. Once Pope's contract runs out in 2026, then we can look at where Ramsdale is and possibly look at bringing in an even better keeper then if other areas of the squad are in good shape.

  17. 2 minutes ago, Ikon said:

I dont see Ramsdale as an upgrade on Pope by much, if at all apart from having better feet. Pope is better at other stuff and also seems stronger mentally. Feels like a sideway step and a bit of a waste of money imo.

We're never getting that calibre of keeper at 26 years old for £15 million from anywhere else.

If this means having two goal keepers of this level to choose from it's pretty much a no brainer.

No more Dubravka. No more Karius.
