https://theathletic.co.uk/2416973/2021/03/01/ornstein-newcastle-legal-claims-referee-lee-mason-calf-injury-man-city/ Newcastle United’s battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League is being accompanied by a legal challenge behind the scenes involving the victims of George Ormond, the jailed coach who worked for the club in the 1990s and was described in court as a “predatory paedophile”. Ormond was sent to prison for 20 years in 2018 after being found guilty of committing 36 counts of sexual abuse against 18 victims over a 24-year period. Ormond preyed on junior footballers at a boys’ club and during several years assisting with Newcastle’s youth coaching. My colleague Daniel Taylor can now reveal that several of Ormond’s victims have started civil claims against Newcastle and have brought in Bolt Burdon Kemp, a law firm that specialises in helping abuse survivors, to fight their case. “Newcastle have had every opportunity to apologise and accept responsibility for what has happened,” says Thomas Beale, senior associate for Bolt Burdon Kemp. “By denying liability and forcing the survivors to pursue litigation, the club are causing further distress and harm rather than helping those who have been abused try to move forward with their lives. “It is not just about money. It is about the club accepting responsibility and apologising for their failings. I would encourage the club to reconsider their stance and accept liability.“ Newcastle, via their insurers, are denying it is their responsibility. Their lawyers are expected to argue Ormond’s crimes were not closely connected to his role at the club and that, after this passage of time, the claims ought to be barred because of what is known as the “limitation” defence. Newcastle have declined to comment.

Who are these clown commentators?! Baffled why West Brom got a free kick when Wellbeck’s pen came back to him off the post so he touched it twice! One said he might have been offside FFS!!!!

https://theathletic.co.uk/2413134/2021/02/27/is-doing-nothing-the-biggest-gamble-of-all-for-ashley-and-newcastle/ "There was no cross-examination about Bruce’s own position, no queries about any vote-of-confidence conversations with Charnley. True, only three questions were allotted to written journalists and so it hardly amounted to serious interrogation, but it was perhaps reflective of the fact few believe Newcastle will part company with Bruce unless they are forced to."

"really nice guy"

Don't forgot the when he was benched or how he was usually always hauled off!

A mate has just posted in a group chat slating Hartson and whichever female (he used slightly different words!) is on the Football Show with him now for their praising and backing of Bruce! Great guy / unlucky with injuries / players to blame / great manager blah blah. Apparently Hartson said it was disrespectful of the journo who asked Bruce today at why he was smiling after last week's match?!
-
I think I'll slightly miss these comedy pressers on Fridays when he goes! He's such an utter buffoon!

We played very well?! We were horrendous and lucky as hell to get a point!

Brilliant this - would love to see one about BruceBall!

https://theathletic.co.uk/2411563/2021/02/26/shearer-mailbag-keane-bust-up-england-retirement-and-now-or-never-for-kane/ As a mate of Steve Bruce, do you find it hard watching what’s happening at the club now? — Kevin M Why did you tell Steve Bruce not to take the job and what was his response? — Howard S What would your advice be to him today — Alex W It’s not particularly nice reading and hearing the criticism he’s getting, Kevin, but I understand it and it’s warranted. Why? Because Newcastle are fourth-bottom, three points above the relegation positions. True, we’ve lost our best player in Callum Wilson, but as I said about Liverpool, that can’t be an excuse. I didn’t think we were in a relegation battle until a couple of weeks ago, but Fulham have had a fantastic spell — you have to give them and Scotty Parker great credit — and Newcastle haven’t. This situation is precisely the reason I didn’t want Steve to take the job in the first place. It’s not impossible or impossible circumstances, but it’s very, very difficult. It’s a very difficult club, full stop. I’ve been there and done it, albeit for a limited time. I know how they operate and I didn’t want Steve to be part of it. Having said that, I took it all those years ago. I felt the pull. And so I can’t be a hypocrite and criticise him for wanting to have a go. Alex, when we speak, it’s never about tactics or about players or anything like that. I don’t think that would particularly help. I don’t even want to speak about that stuff with him. In terms of changes that could be made now, it’s a problem. I don’t think the squad is full of answers. Steve had no input in the players signed by the club during his first summer window and I can’t for the life of me see what the strategy was. Signing Joelinton for £40 million and giving him the No 9 shirt when he isn’t a centre-forward? What was the thinking there? Steve has had to try and find a way of playing and it hasn’t been easy. The key thing is getting Wilson back as soon as possible, because without him you only have to consider the numbers. Who scores goals? Miguel Almiron has looked a better player higher up the pitch, but his numbers are still poor. Allan Saint-Maximin scored against Manchester United, but it’s the same with him. Dwight Gayle, Andy Carroll, Joelinton — look at their stats, too. Newcastle’s season is the next four or five games. That’s what it boils down to.
