Ha ha what a bellend! They’ll be lapping it up! Sunderland executive director Charlie Methven has had a dig at Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez and ex-Sunderland boss David Moyes in explaining why the Black Cats chose Jack Ross as their manager this summer. Ross grew a reputation in the Scottish Championship for playing an exciting and attacking brand of football as his St Mirren side won the league title. Moyes, meanwhile, infamously declared Sunderland relegation candidates after just their second game of the season, while many outside of Newcastle have been critical in recent weeks of Benitez’s tactics which have been labelled ‘negative’. After a successful start to the campaign at the Stadium of Light - with the Black Cats showing real passion and remaining unbeaten in the opening six League One fixtures, Methven has given more insight into the decision he and Stewart Donald made to appoint Ross back in June. Methven wrote in the match day programme ahead of Saturday’s draw with Oxford: “The setting of stretching, but realistic targets is part of our business ethos, and one of the reasons we chose Jack Ross as manager. “Whilst the other candidates we interviewed mostly tried to hedge their bets when asked what their first season target would be, given the overhaul required, Jack said that he would target automatic promotion and be disappointed not to achieve it. “All three of us (Methven, Donald and Juan Sartori) believe that fearlessly ‘going for it’ - in life, in business, and sport - begets precisely the positivity and desire required to be a winner. “Conversely, whether it be a previous SAFC manager declaring in August that his team were relegation candidates, or the manager of a neighbouring club putting 11 men behind the ball at home and conceding 80 per cent possession, if a leader’s body language is negative then the battle is already lost.
  2. Just noticed Rondon and Yedlin are playing at roughly midnight on Wednesday so won't get back here until late Thursday or Friday so I'll be surprised if they start
  3. It's fucking horrible. Imagine genuinely thinking of Newcastle as a bottom half club. Mental. I always feel bad when y'all get to reminiscing. The glory days were fucking ages ago. I'm only mid-30s like, it is the main thing that makes me feel older. When I talk about football to people at work (especially in London) I sound like an absolute madman. Spurs fans think they're better than us FFS. They are. Ye wha? 11 years isn't that long like. The club's have gone in opposite directions obviously, but it's not forever irredeemable if the right owner came in. You started following us at the worst possible time basically. If you thought you talked about HBA a lot, you'd have been peaking hard over Beardsley and Ginola. Answer honestly. When was the last time you seriously expected this club to compete for the title? Whenever that was, that's how long it's been since the team was great. The right owner is never coming. We came 3rd in 2003, that's not that long ago for us. 15 years ago, though. Did you overachieve to get 3rd or was 3rd just about right and something to build upon? I would have said those mid 90's teams were the last time the club was in the conversation for a title. I'm sure Fergie said he expected us to win it in 01-02 when we were top at Christmas - Bellamy's injured knacked us! We were right up there in 02-03 until the ref robbed us at Everton and then Man Utd humped us up here the week after! The Boro postponement was a disgrace too! Cheating pigs!
  4. From Derek Wright’s interview with Caulkin; “We have a manager now whose eye for detail is incredible. The injury record since he’s been here has been phenomenal and that’s down to his meticulous planning, when to use or rest players. At the same time, he has a depth of feeling. It means a lot. Some people have worked here who wouldn’t have a clue about tradition, about Geordie people.”

  17. Very true. Shame you and others won't do the same My big issue is losing all of my away loyalty points but I'll come to that next summer
  18. Great but sad post on Facebook; Cancelled my NUFC season ticket with immediate effect this morning, as I've had enough. It's sad to see the manager trying to compete with cheap buys, loans, frees and kids against virtually every other club in the PL who are prepared to spend money. I've seen it a lot worse than this in my 40 odd years there, but we didn't have any money back then....no excuses for this deliberate sabotage. There's little or no investment in the squad, the training ground is an embarrassment, and SJP has turned into a neglected, decaying shit tip, he literally coundn't give a toss. The club is an empty shell that exists purely to promote his tawdry charver tat shop, and he is diverting NUFC funds directly into their tills via the merchandise. I'm sick of Ashley's lies and broken promises and now after a summer of trying to undermine any progress made, he's waging a PR campaign via his media acolytes against his own fans and a thoroughly decent man like Rafa Benitez...he, his staff, and the players are literally the only decent thing about the club anymore. With so much to discuss, the club then cancels the Supporters Forum meeting at less than 24 hours notice. Shameful. Fuck that, I'm out.....will now dedicate my life into the downfall of Mike Ashley and Sportsdirect like some radgie buddhist ninja. #AshleyOut #WheresTheMoneyMike
  19. From Rafa’s comments, I’m expecting something like this; Darlow Sterry Schar Fernandez Dummett Murphy Diame Longstaff Ki Kenedy Muto
