  2. Slobodan Rajkovic (Serbia)

The strapping centre-back has an agreement to join Chelsea from OFK Belgrade, allegedly for a huge fee of about £3.8m. Will need more full international caps before obtaining a work permit.

    Ryan Babel (Holland)

The host country will have great expectations of Ajax's latest Dutch-Surinamese star. A member of the senior squad for two years, he can play through the middle or towards the left.

    Giuseppe Rossi (Italy)

After scoring 30 goals in as many games for Manchester United reserves, the powerful little forward had a productive loan spell at Parma under Claudio Ranieri that should stand him in good stead for this event.

    Giampaolo Pazzini (Italy)

Unheralded Fiorentina striker is in the record books for scoring the first goal (after 29 seconds) and the first hat-trick at the new Wembley in the U-21 friendly against England.

    That Rossi chaps seems canny.

That Palladino kid is also outstanding, and Aquialani in the midfield is pretty special.

    Italy should win IMO  blueyes.gif

  3. Being linked with Villa today. Hamburg are ready to sell to reduce thier wage bill, he can play right back aswell as backup for midfield. He's only 22 and a regular in the dutch national team, surley worth a look? Considering how hard its been to think of avaliable RB's?

I heard him being linked to Villa about 3 weeks ago, it went quiet and its comeback again. From what I've seen of him at HSV, he just looks incredible. One of the best defensive midfield prospects I've seen since Hargreaves. I wish he could joing us, but with Butt playing so well and the Barton signing I can't see it happening.

I was think more of using him as a RB, if we are looking for a up and coming DMF we should look at that Fernandes lad.

Villa boss keeping tabs on Hamburg midfielder

    Jun 9 2007

    By Bill Howell, Birmingham Mail

HAMBURG'S Dutch international midfielder Nigel de Jong is thought to be back on Martin O'Neill's radar as he attempts to find a replacement for Gavin McCann.

The German club are believed to have given Villa and other Premiership suitors encouragement to make a firm offer.

"We have heard rumours of interest from them (Villa)", said Hamburg Sporting Director Dietmar Beiersdorfer. "But at the moment there is no news."

Hamburg need to get their highest earner off the wage bill after a poor season in the Bundesliga which saw them flirt with relegation before finishing seventh and outside the Champions League places. They also lost five out of six Champions League games to finish bottom of Arsenal's group.

The 22-year-old defensive midfielder, who arrived from Ajax for £700,000 some 18 months ago at a time when Manchester United and Chelsea were both linked with moves, has three years remaining of a contract thought to earn him around £40,000 a week.

Both PSV Eindhoven and AZ Alkmaar are also said to be keen.

De Jong's time in the Bundesliga turned sour with the dismissal of coach Thomas Doll in February and subsequent arrival of Huub Stevens which left him on the sidelines.

  6. I just found it embarrassing that people were trying to imply that only Newcastle and Birmingham were after him and therefore he wasn't that good

The reason people are mentioning Birmingham is they & Newcastle were the only clubs mentioned in your original link. I am still looking for the Emre link you mentioned, I did "CTRL & F"  & was still unable to find a mention of Emre on Timesonline. Do you think just maybe the Madrid & Milan links are more than likely agent stories pumped into the media, to push clubs like Brum & us into action.

There's no mention of Emre in the article, but I remember him and Tuncay looked good friends before the Fener match, having a proper chinwag before kick off. Its an logical assumption for people to make that he would be influencial in Sanli coming here.

Im sure I read something linking him to Arsenal the other day, but that was probably you normal 2+2=5 story from journalist combining the fact that he's on a free and that Wenger made a comment about him being a future star a few years ago.

  7. we have krul, miler and taylor here. our academy is not great, although we do have a few prospects. we have only one academy player in the starting XI, and he is inconsistent at best.

I think it's fair to say we have one of the best academies in the country. We came 4th in the FA Youth Cup behind Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal, the three biggest clubs in the country.

Don't forget the likes of Carroll, Huntington and Edgar.

Kazenga must have something about him making the bench at such a young age.

Has just been handed a professional contract apparently  blueyes.gif

  8. Any decent players should be pretty well known and fairly well priced at this level. Probably need to look further down the food chain.

Who are your most promising young players? Any foreign ones? Kinda heard that your academy is a complete shambles from a couple of different people...I think it's becoming more and more important and advantageous to look at youth policy.
