Yeah it’s still a case of taking a talented ‘project’ manager from a small boutique club and putting him in a high pressure job at one of the world’s biggest clubs. It’s never just a sporting or tactical appointment, it’s an emotional and political one too. We’ve seen numerous of these managers from small, tightly run clubs, crash and burn recently - Potter, Rosienior at Chelsea, Amorim at Man U, Alonso at Real. Howe one of the few who seemed to get past that, but obviously has had his issues too. Klopp was at a massive club in Dortmund prior to Liverpool, Iroala has only ever managed Larnarca, Rayo and Bournemouth. It’s a gigantic step up, interesting to see if he can make it.

Including 35m for Quansah, 25m for Doak etc. The fact they either have left an octogenarian Milner or a busted flush like Ox leave on frees is hardly terrible. Most of the others contributed massively to Klopps teams and weren’t at a massively resaleable age. Konáte and Trent obviously is a combination of either underpaying or wanting to go elsewhere.
