Tiote is of similar age but will be on a smaller wage and is coming to prominence. They might be on the same level, but one has gone up the figurative ladder the other has slipped down. We could certainly do with a defensive midfielder. We're going down without a creative midfielder/attacker. Spot the difference. How will you feel if we get Ben Arfa? That we're more likely to finish 17th than 18th.

People want Lovenkrands in the team on the strength of him being able to get goals. He just wont get them in this league. And he certainly contributes nowt else, similar to Nolan in that respect. So who is going to get goals and contribute that's on our books at the moment? Shola, Xisco, Best and perhaps even Ranger will contribute more to overall play than Lovenkrands. They'll at least battle around for the ball. None of the five will get goals at this level. Carroll is our best bet for goals, and he'll be lucky to get 10.

Is it certain the likes of Jody Craddock, Zat Knight, Robert Huth, Emmerson Boyce, Winston Reid etc etc will "eat him for breakfast"? The chances are these players will be starting against us in crucial games, I'd fancy his pace and movement to cause a few problems against the bottom half teams if I'm honest, more so than Xisco. This is the Villa thread, mate. Villa have good defenders. However, if you look at the teams Loven scored against last season, a pattern appears. Swansea? West Brom? Cardiff? Middlesbrough? QPR? Sheff Utd? Looks like much of the cream of the division to me. Boro finished 11th, QPR finished 13th, Sheff United 8th. Yeah. The cream of the division.
