  1. It won't soften the blow in the slightest, and there'll be a piece of you fuming about the bet if we stay up. I don't know how people can bet against their own team, I did it once, never again. if we stay up I wont give a s**** about the money, i'll be too busy enjoying the best day of my life I have £12 on Chelsea, Gers, Celtic, Barca, Arsenal and Pool, return of about £185 £10 on all the above plus West Ham, and Blackburn for a return of about £650, cant be arsed to check that one and of course £300 for us to go down which will get me a return of £530 should it happen And the prize for the biggest mercenary b****** so far goes to Ronaldo! You're a f***ing disgrace, and don't give me that bollocks that "the money will soften the blow"!!! A true supporter of NUFC could never hope to profit from our relegation. it's costing me in the region of £200 to get the the Villa game tomorrow, probably to see us get relegated. Forgive me if I try to cover my own back should the worst happen
  2. Well of course he was never guaranteed a start for them when he had the best player in the world in his position in front of him for most of his career. And for the term "squad filler" I'd rate him in his prime higher than the "squad fillers" now such as Fletcher. Fletcher can at least play a bit of football and make an impression going forward That was never Butt's job though so why make such a comment? you cant honestly tell me that any midfielder in Man United's team isn't expected to be able to play a little football, which is why he bought Veron, and later got rid of Butt at 29

  4. Butt is living off the back of his Manchester United days, yet he was never even a guarenteed started for them, he was one of Fergie's squad fillers who could come in and do a job in the holding role. Yet the media talk about him like a Giggs or Scholes, he was never anything close to their calibre. He's been awful all season for us, no engine, non-existant athleticism, horrific passing, mis-timed tackling that's cost us a stupid number of points Absolute disgrace to the shirt, and as I've said before, if he's a nailed-on starter next season i'll sell my season ticket

In another life Robert would have made one hell of a striker, his finishing was absolutely clinical

Using the same logic, would you say that Lampard is a better midfielder than Xavi? I'd certainly rather have Lampard in my team tbh Hmm...it's your opinion Let's take this further then. Would you say that Lampard has been a better midfielder for Chelsea than Zinedine Zidane was for Madrid, given that Lampard for Chelsea has double the goals and assists Zidane has in the same number of games for Madrid? personally don't agree he'd perform in any team either - xavi for spain compared to lampard for england as the most obvious example xavi's a player who dictates the way a game is played, lampard is not although he does have other strengths of course Not just disagreeing for the sake of it mate but I've rarely seen Lampard on a pitch this season without him bossing the game tbh

Zidane is an exception, he's down as one of the best players of all time With wingers it's different though, they're judged soely on what they can create in the final third.

Like what Ginola did with Spurs, really. not really
  11. Viduka for all his lack of workrate and mobility is an absolutely sterling footballer. Put him in any team and he could be the difference, our best finisher and most skillfull player by a country mile. He's got redeeming features that Owen does not

Robert, in a lesser team, scored more goals and created more. He basically transformed an average team into a good one with his magnificent productivity
  13. said this back in the summer, another player gone and not replaced

the question is, who was the best winger? I've seen natural ability used more than once in this thread as a reason why Ginola was better, it doesn't tell half the story
  15. They all have, I agree. But Viduka brings a hell of a lot more to the team than Owen, and Duff at least tries every now and again Owen's supposed to be our captain man, he's a fucking disgrace
  16. it always is. Everytime he's quoted he never mentions NUFC. He just defends himself and his ridiculously overrated goal record programme notes to a huge game and he whinges on about his 'conversion rate' when was this? programme notes to the boro game "Though I was upset and felt that he [shearer] was wrong – only last week the press pointed out that, even though I had only scored eight league goals this season, my conversion ratio was the best in the Premier League – what I can't fault is the way he handled the situation: strong, up front and honest. Just the way a top manager should be. " and before the pompey game: "Stats are there and people will say eight games and all that. But one of the games, I came off after two minutes, I did my ankle, the next one, I came on for 10 minutes coming back. "You can straight away narrow it down to five or six games before you even start. " came off after 2 minutes eh? It was 19 minutes actually the next one, you came on for 10 minutes did you? Funny, because I watched the Hull game and you started the game and played a full 73 minutes lying c***

in terms of natural ability, Jay-Jay Okocha was better than Didier Drogba, does that make him a better player?

he didn't mean the clubs player of the year....he meant the national award, don't you remember............like giggsy just won( ) Even better credentials that award like, f***ing hell Ginola's goal record and productivity dont even compare to Robert's man, honestly, how can you people have such short memories? We dont, we just possibly have a different definition of what 'better' is. Ginola is a better footballer than Robert. Robert was a better footballer for Newcastle than Ginola. Thats how I see it. Level playing field:Ginola. fair enough

Steed Malbranque was player of the year for Spurs, and look where he ended up a few weeks later. What the hell is your point?

both players had fantastic first seasons and poor second seasons for us. i just seem to remember robert wasting so much more possession, playing fantastic crosses when he'd looked up and saw there was no-one there, taking ridiculous shots and free kicks which went nowhere near in the hope that 1 out of 10 might get somewhere near etc Too right. Obviously Ginola had his bad points; he didnt defend, he tried to do too much at times, and he didnt have that lightening turn of pace from his first season. But it was like he'd been trained in football etiquette, if that makes sense. I always got the impression that Ginola saw it as downright bad manners to misplace a pass or cross. I forgive him a lot of this stuff thought because you always knew it was there waiting to come out. With Robert I was never sure, and under Souness he was absolute dogshite. under Souness he was often benched for Darren Ambrose, Shearer was shite under Souness, Solano didn't look the same player until Roeder took over
