  1. Cap and Gown was an away pub last time I was there, albeit that was 7 years ago now. Was quality in there before the relegation game.
  2. aye, 1st game of promo season? didnt he crack one aggainst Villa in the prem? He did, rasper from a similar distance IIRC. Was the game Cole broke the goal scoring record, seem to remember all the goals in that game were good even theres. Cracking atmosphere that night, seem to remember Big Ron copping a fair bit of jip. Yes, you are both right - Bracewell, despite his Mackem connections, will always have a special place for those of us who remember the promotion season of 92/93 well and our first season in the PL the following year because of those 2 goals. The Southend one was a particular memory because it was our first goal of that season, thundered in from about 25 yards, and the Villa one, a volley I believe, pulled us level with them and we went on to win 5-1 with Andy Cole getting that famous 41st goal, the best top division scoring performance by a Newcastle player since George Robledo in tne 50s. The whole ground was jumping to the Andy Cole song after the goal and, as Disco says, 'Big Fat Ron' was the target of the sung question' What's the score, Big Fat Ron..!?' Brilliant night that topped off our great first season with us getting 3 rd place in the PL. Bracewell was past his best when he came to us but still did a great job for 2 seasons - great player for Everton but that injury to his ankle caused by Whitehurst at SJP, did take the edge off the rest of his career. Was an amazing night, that. 'Two-one, fat Ron' started in the Gallowgate; at every goal the chants got louder and Ron moved further back from the pitch.
  3. They don't exist in the top flight any longer.
  4. Who's judging him on 90 minutes a week? The lack of leadership on the field is only part of it, and a pretty big part as it happens. 'Everything else', man. The guy's been our top earner for 5 years, our captain for 18 months and would gladly walk away when we need him most. If that's leadership in your eyes you need to get out and experience a bit of the world, or look at every club that's consistently won things over the past 3 decades and take a look at who leads them out.
  5. Mick imagining posts again, not like him.
  6. A poor captain could have a negative effect if he was disruptive, I probably over simplified what I said. I still don’t think being a captain these days is much other than being a figurehead. Every player on the pitch should be talking to each other, one person can only do so much. I've seen nothing to make me think that Coloccini is anything but a good captain other than his current personal problems which don't seem to be doing anything to his game. I have no complaints about his on the field captain duties, but you can't find any fault at all in a captain who wants to jump ship in the middle of a relegation fight and doesn't communicate (about this) with the fans..? Not to mention the obvious leadership void on the pitch.
  7. Heard it all before, man. Every single person who defends Colo's leadership invariably mentions screaming like an idiot. There's a lot of scope there to achieve a balance.
  8. You attack Pardew at every given opportunity for the lack of cohesion and morale on the pitch; Coloccini not organising as he should is part of that. Great player but a poor leader.
  9. Either way, there's no excuse for this shit when he hasn't communicated with our fans directly or indirectly for over 6 months. Some captain.

    Alan Pardew

He has 10 top flight goals for us in the 9 years since he made his first PL start. 3 of those came under Pardew, btw. Next.

    Alan Pardew

Charlton fans wouldn't agree with that one, like. Still, everyone wants us to fail. Fuck them.
  12. My dad - a very good player in his time who was on Everton's books for a while - was one of those who would swear he would never see better players than Best and Maradona. I insisted he start watching Spanish football, which he eventually did. He now says without hesitation that Messi is the best player of all time by a mile.
  13. Routledge tracks back well enough. Haven't seen enough of Hernández in this league to judge. Routledge pins teams back with his pace. 4-3-3 is perfect for him. Yes. You'd think the same would apply for Obertan but I haven't seen anything to suggest it's the same for him. Obertan's just not as good, it's that simple sadly.

  15. Tino v Boro 1996 albeit from the bench Cisse's debut goal was lovely On Marv, he's not defensively minded enough for Pards and while I may disagree I think realistically Pards will either play him central or not at all. He does not like playing wingers who don't track back much no matter how skillful. "Wingers" ffs. better tell Chelsea that Mata and Hazard are not wingers and best sub them..... He wouldn't be a "winger" anyway its possible to play someone outwide and him not to be stuck on the touchline all game. By this logic we shouldn't play Ben Arfa either because he's not a winger either. Sorry, like, but this post suggests you've not seen Marveaux play. He's nothing remotely like any of those players.
  16. Yeah, he has such a great track record of doing that, giving the ball away time after time. Gouffran will work his bollocks off out there, make space for Cisse and be a goal threat. Wish people would stop trying to be clever with square pegs in round holes. We've had enough of that from Pardew.
  17. You would rather play Jonas, Obertan or Sammy? it's not like he's incapable of playing there anyway and quite frankly by far our best option until Ben Arfa comes back. I'd rather play Obertan there than Marveaux, yes. Marveaux will just be wasted and get isolated out there.
  18. I'd go with Cajun's team till Hatem comes back like. I want Marveaux playing the Dyer role in midfield.
