Both clubs should be using the talent in local area and developing them. Only chance long term either have of being up there. Sunderland had a class academy didn't they but have not really brought any through. Players like Downing are worth having as long as it's a mix of youth and experience, Downing is a good role model for younger players and a solid professional, not amazing but can hold his own in the league
