Feels like a missed opportunity to strengthen even with a loan signing or maybe some younger players that could cover. -
Just watching the goals back and he should have done better for all of them, just went right through him.
-
We handed them the game really, poor decisions all over and tactically a mess
-
I switched off before their 4th but what the fuck was Pope playing at. In summer we need minimum Goalkeeper, full back cover, new midfielder and review striker situation
-
Hall, Miley, Tino and Bruno
-
Ah thanks, I feel validated now 😄
-
That's right though in that it changed after we scored which can expect but we never regained it and needed something to try and gain some control. We rattles their centre halfs in first 35 mins then just ended up being passive for next 60 mins of the game
-
I would say need to see where it goes rest of the season, no point now but fair to review if right in longer term before buy more players
-
They had wrestled that back / we were passive after scoring and we needed a big push in 2nd half. I thought Gordon caused them problems in first half but feels like a sub maybe even in 55th minute may have helped change momentum, we waited until 73rd minutes when already 3-1 down, was only going one way from then. Could see it happening much earlier though and not sure why Howe couldnt
-
He looks like his legs are gone, he can't do what he could a few years ago and unfortunately can't be starting games for us. He's been excellent since signed and done a lot for the club but he's just not at it anymore.
-
By half time we weren't the better team, game had slipped and needed something different. That was my point, could see all day which way the game was going even though I have never played football and just trying to fit in 😬
-
That's my view, even 1 tweak may have helped, may not have but proactive rather than reactive to going 3-1 down
-
Oh played plenty over last 35ish years mate, watched a fuck load of football in my 46 years on this planet as well. I understand football all to well but it looks desperate, I know not just strikers and ball needs to be moved through the lines etc but it's happened quite a lot, always after the game has gone
-
Totally understand, I probably just think the league and champions league progression(just for money) would be most important and would give our big players a rest in fa cup and league cup and maybe draft a few youngsters in to get experience. If we weren't in champions league and dealing with that travel then maybe have a crack at a cup but we aren't at the point and neither are most teams to deal with 4 competitions.
-
He waited until we were 3-1 down to bring strikers on, simple enough? And change formation to 442. Our tactics and formation didn't work from 35 mins on and only had 2 shots on target all game. It's not that fucking hard to understand.
-
Or should he just prioritise some competitions and bow out the other 2 if doesn't have the squad for it. I would have been fine dropping out of 1 of them
-
We were 3-1 down, danger was there and should have been made earlier. 1 single tweak may have got us back in the game, instead 3 subs up front, change to 442 and no threat then concede 1 more. Doesn't get more desperate
-
I think this is spot on, they are all fans and I think it's a fans right to have opinions. I have been supporting them for over 35 years, loved the good times of Keegan and robson, struggled through the Ashley years until I had enough and threw my season ticket in when the kebab loving cunt was appointed and then loved the club again under Howe, but it just doesn't seem to be moving forward and we have spent a lot of money in the summer but look like gone backwards and im just not convinced Howe knows how to change it.
-
Ah I get that but this season just feels completely different. I don't know what the answer is but feels like needs a different style to our play and a different type of player as well as in game management, see the risk and take action which may or may not have made a difference tonight but the changes when they did come were desperate.
-
If he goes and magically turns over a 2-0 deficit to City this week I may get it but if he plays full strength, we lose, players knackered and lose to Brentford on Sat or a shit draw then questions should be asked. I would have accepted not competing in carabou this season with champions league and prioritise the league and getting through that.
-
We lost 1 player, doesn't really cover the way we play though, I could get it if we just didn't score goals but the whole setup looks off. He probably didn't need to spend 250m on players to send us backwards. The way we play isn't evolving, looks all over the shop and tactically doesn't really work
-
And 433 is not really working for teams on this league now. 4231 seems to be the go-to with a few outliers. Arsenal play 433 but have the team to do so and I don't think we do.
-
So it's a consistent pattern then, but to progress we need to not wait over half a season to get there. The football we have played all season has been abysmal and any threat we have possessed we often look like we need 10 chances to score 1 goal. I get Howe does tactically improve the team over time but then it all resets by start of the next season and I think formation, tactics or the players he wanted hasn't created a cohesive team that knows how to win games consistently and I don't think it's unfair to say that. Some of our players look to have gone backwards massively.
