I put this on from the 85th, don't think I saw Guthrie complete a single pass. Sloppy touches all round as well. Only thing decent was Ben Arfa willing to have a go. Massively dropped 3 points today, Pardew seems to be looking out of his depth tactically recently. We now have the players to be able to play football on the deck and run through teams, no need for the long ball. I'm obviously over the moon about where we have been this season, but let's be honest, we've pretty much played shite all season to get there.

Aye that's the reason we are getting battered The anti-Obertan dogma is awful on here. He has been very, very poor and was totally at fault for the Assou-Ekotto goal. However, Guthrie and Perch have been at least as bad or worse and will get criticism nowhere near as harsh. But they haven't been as frequently shite as Obertan. People generally don't develop dislikes for no reason.

Purposely kept away from this thread after his first couple of games, because I knew people where going to knee-jerk and our sensible posters would have to defend him. He was poor in his first couple of games, but I never doubted him for a second, but I never thought he would be this good either. 16 goals in his last 17 games for us or something isn't it? That is nothing short of incredible. Yeah, I can't recall posting much on him at the time, but I certainly remember hoping his poor displays where down to Ramadam, and I didn't expect for a second he would be anywhere near as good as he's been. I also saw a comment from Sewelly (I think), when we were linked with him saying that he'd heard he was something along the lines of a "massive egotistical cunt, prone to causing unrest". Amazing what rumor and hearsay can generate, as he seems about as far from that ilk as you will get in a modern footballer.

Quite interesting reading around the page 90 mark of this thread after he'd started the season poorly. He's pretty much unanimously rated now, such is the turnaround.

Oh yeah, it was absolutely incredible technique, but it was very close to the goal. That's the main thing that makes me think Cisse's was on a par.

That SS Team of the Week says Mata's was goal of the weekend and a goal of the season contender. I personally can't decide whether it was even better than Cisse's, both were brilliant goals.

I think I've underestimated how well he's playing simply because it's Guthrie. He's probably been better than Cabaye recently, and that's no criticism of Cabaye.

He's actually really enjoyable to watch on this form.

Hope he's not out long. Not a particularly good player, but I can't help but like the bloke, never causes a fuss and just tries to do his job whenever called upon.

Very impressive. Liked how his first touch always seemed to be into the direction of where he wanted to go. Looked very sharp when receiving a pass and got in his bike as soon as he laid it on. Fucking excellent goal as well.

Don't get me wrong, Perch, Guthrie, and maybe even Raylor haven't performed badly recently, but that midfield just looks horrible on paper.
