His technical attributes such as first touch, ability to take the ball in a tight spot and pick out a pass suggest he could do a job in a midfield three. Haven't seen enough of him to judge his defensive abilities, but if I was to hazard a guess going by his build and style, I don't think he'd be much cop in a central pairing.

He was only really fit just before his injury, and Pardew's "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach was keeping the likes of Obertan and Ryan Taylor in the team, and the likes of Marveaux and Santon out of it.

he hasn't changed a jot since enrique was here, still closes our game down and spends more team with our left back than their right back like he did then. We clearly have differing opinions on this because in my eyes he's nowhere near the player he was 12 months ago. He's always offered a lot of protection defensively but he still had a go himself, and his crossing had actually improved a lot as well. He just looks totally incapable of attacking at the moment. Pretty much since the Stoke game.

Really frustrating how poor he's been since Enrique has left and he's not been in front of a full back that can defend. Seems to have been unable to attack pretty much since signing his new contract. Thinking about it, if any one player sums up Pardews playng style it's Jonas, he's essentially sacrificed his flair to do a season long defensive "shift". I know we've done well this year but I wonder how many of our players actually enjoy their roles.

I'd be surprised if Krul goes this season tbh. I think Tiote is most likely to leave if we lose a big name, then maybe Ba, but I think he'll likely stay another year with us having just signed Cisse.

Did he even actually put in a few decent performances at left back? Whenever the opposition had an attack down his side the first thing I thought was "shit, where's Jonas". He was for the most part shocking there and has looked like a midfielder playing as a full back on his wrong foot. I've said it a few times but I personally blame his selection there for Jonas' apparent loss of any ability to attack this season, because prior to the start of this season, many (myself included) were praising how much better he had been in the past 12 months. The only reason I can think people would want to see Taylor right midfield is because he has a few of the attributes in him to be a potentially half decent player there. Unfortunately he falls short in a lot of the other required areas.
