  1. just because your still the last manager to lose a league game v derby ffs It gets worse. He ended the interview by saying that "if you give me the job of managing one of the top 4 I will play as attractive a style of football as anyone" f*** me, he has actually gone insane. He basically lumped Newcastle in with Bolton as the type of team where by the only way to succeed is to play "f*** them up" style football against the top 4. I am literally in a state of shock having heard that He used to say something similar before he became our manager - that he only played that style of football because of the limited resources he had at Bolton. If he had better players ...... Well he had better players at Newcastle and ones that were particularly unsuited to that style of football and still tried to make them play that way. Cannot imagine him getting another job in the Premiership. If the sports science etc worked for him at one time, anything that was particularly beneficial would have been adopted by other clubs now so can't see those methods working for him now.
  2. Well seeing as none of us have a clue who will be playing on Sunday, I guess Fergie won't either.
  3. I think there might have been a slight murmuring when he missed a chance but the crowd was mostly comprised of children and their parents. Lots of pushchairs there today!
  4. Love the way they imply that he was dropped by Keegan where in fact after KK's arrival, he played in every game (sub in one game) before getting injured in the Liverpool game and therefore missing the rest of the season. Hope he stays as I really want to see if KK can help him improve this season - early signs are promising.
  5. Exactly and he was a regular at the end of the season - it's not like those appearances were all at the beginning of the seasons and he was then dropped.
  6. Always though he was more suited to playing in Europe where the pace of the game is slower. Needs a lot of games in a row to get back into some sort of form and will never get that at Newcastle if others are fit. Undoubtedly talented but no football brain whatsoever. Wish the lad well.
  7. Basically a list of questions that weren't answered in the interview. They get some 'boring' answers so just ask some more. Ashley said he had no intention of answering the media on every single issue so I don't know why they bother. Oh hang on. Yes I do. At least it is very pro Keegan unlike most of the other media who are so disrespectful and treat him as a joke figure.
  8. Why do Spurs transfers get so complicated? They have fallen out with Man Utd over Berbatov, Liverpool over Keane, they've upset Blackburn with the protracted Bentley transfer and now Corluka. And they are always threatening to report or sue a club.
  9. I am sure I saw copies in the newsagents in the Haymarket Metro station.
  10. The actual text is: "....one of the most unfortunate things about Newcastle United finances at the time was the amount of money still owed on players signed in comparison to the amount of income that was due off players who had gone. There is still £27 million net to pay on transfers that were done before I came."
  11. probably our most important player............................but ......................£12mill for an injuryprone soon to be 29yr old in the last year of his contract. undecided...all depends on the replacement. (IF TRUE) Probably read that on the internet as it was in a couple of the local London rags.
  12. A few bits and pieces not already mentioned. - Still £27m to pay on players signed before he arrived - Prefers to be in the stand with the fans because that is how he has always watched football (when watching England). Also because he like to take his kids with him. - Wanted to join in with some of the things fans were singing last season. Goes through the same emotions as the fans. - Not looking to sell would would welcome investment - Wants to mirror the Arsenal model. Great academy/youth team. Play wonderful football. Have a good team now but pay great attention now to the next generation. Striking the right balance between building for the future and not neglecting the present. - Keegan happiest working with the players on the training ground but so much involved in running a football club that must make sure people are not spread too thinly. Communication between everyone is great and it all worked well in the signing of Gutierrez. - KK very particular about players he wants. KK does not stop emphasising that he wants players with the heart and passion to play for Newcastle and its supporters. - Currently have the 5th highest wage bill in the Premier League so would like our league position to reflect that. Expects to see a better team this season and signs of progression. - Likes going out and talking football in the pubs. Bank interest talk etc is Monday to Friday stuff. - Not here to take money out of the clun or make a profit but have to regularly break even. If the club is successful off the field then more resources to compete on the field. Obviously all positive stuff that fans want to hear and I suppose the cynical will not be convinced but still somewhat reassuring.
  13. Received my copy in the post today. It's a pretty good read.
  14. This one says the press conference is in Galicia tomorrow. http://sport.setanta.com/en/Sport/News/Football/2008/08/07/Prem-Coloccin-joins-Newcastle/ Newcastle sign Argentinian by Laurent Picard, 07 August 2008 Fabricio Coloccini has been transferred to Newcastle United for ₤12 million according to Spanish club Deportivo La Coruna. Kevin Keegan’s Magpies are yet to confirm the deal is done, while the player is due to express his thoughts about the move during a press conference on Thursday in Galicia. Argentina international Coloccini urged his employers to allow him to sign what has been called ‘the contract of his life’ by his agent, and it appears an agreement has been found. Deportivo’s official website announce that a verbal agreement was reached last week between both top flight clubs, and that the documents have been officially signed. The centre back joined Depor from Milan four seasons ago, established himself as one of the best defenders in La Liga, and has been transferred for ₤12 million at the age of 26. "The Argentina international is, starting from tonight (Wednesday), a Newcastle player,” read a statement on Depor’s official website. Coloccini is the second centre half to join The Magpies this summer after Frenchman Sebastien Bassong from Metz.
  15. Please, please, please let it be true. 'He would make a squad player, if he was rubbish, utd wouldnt of brought him. As for a bad season at Newcastle? tell me a player that did have a good season apart from Milner. Even owen was not as good as he should of been. If the price is right, i would take him. He would also have to work hard here, which as we can see by last season, no one has had to at newcastle.' 'If he was any good United wouldn't have sold him. Ask yourself why Newcastle are willing to let him go for half of what they paid for him just last year , surely they need good players more than what we do . He is on £60k a year at Newcastle and so thats a lot of dough to pay someone who you say will be a good squad player. Football is all about opinions and you seem to like Alan Smith. However I do not and think that of we have any aspirations to improve our squad , then we shouldn't be buying cast-offs from a team like Newcastle' 'Newcastle played some of the most absurd formations last season. 3 strikers in Owen, Martins & Viduka, then 3 holding, defensive midfielders in Barton, Geremi & Butt. What was Smith supposed to be doing? - he was meant to be a playmaker/winger all of a sudden?!... Here's a quote from Sir Alex Ferguson about him playing the deep-midfield role ; Quote: "Roy sees characteristics in Alan that he saw in himself as a young player, which could help Alan develop into a very good player in that position." Now, if Roy Keane, Sir Alex and now Moyes think he's truly got what it takes - who does anyone think they are to argue?.' 'decent player, and was used as a hard tack-ling type midfielder, and he could be your future replace ment for carsley, and he can grab the odd goal or two. you might not think that he is all that, but for everton he would be a good buy, and even a bargain! and like some said, you also need the numbers aswell, and you could infact do alot worse with the likes ong f fernandes (in-consistant) and moutinho (un-proven). all 3 are good players, but atleats you know smith can handle the PL!' EFC opinions. Whoever the lad arguing for Smith is, get him a f***ing medal! http://www.evertonfc.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=2 I wonder if other fans think Milner is our best player . Milner and Taylor. It is always interesting looking at other forums because you soon find that the general perception of how well a team is playing or who the best players are, are totally at odds with those of a club's own supporters.
  16. Why would they want to sell him? Just signed Ben Haim so Richards at right back? Richards in midfield probably. Ben Haim and Dunne at the back. New, proper right back instead of playing a rotating collection of centre backs there. That wouldn't make any sense, they've got money to burn out of their arse and they're selling one of their best players because they got Ben Haim? And they're going to push their best defender into midfield... They haven't got money to burn at all. Thaksin has hardly spent f*** all and Jo, his only big signing, is costing them buttons in the short term, paid on the drip over several years. Richards has played midfield before- they need a defensive midfielder and don't have the money to buy anyone good. Edit- and why would Ben Haim leave Chelsea's bench for City's? He'll be going there to play every week. Also, City forums seem to think they have bid for Santa Cruz but they need to raise some cash first.
  17. What's up with Faye? There's been no mention of him and Geremi is now back playing games despite playing international games in June.
  18. Spurs hijack. So that was who the second Spurs medical was booked for!
  19. A fan of another club phoned up and said it was Dennis Wise - apparently well-known nickname for him. First I've heard of it.
  20. PBT is the guy that lives down in Spain...the H&J show talks to him about whats happening in the spanish press! Paul Breen Turner, a supposed Newcastle supporter and expert on Spanish football, who still thinks we are in for Aimar although that might have hit a snag - according to him in that chat on Talksport this afternoon.
  21. Bookies favourite to be the first sacked along with Curbishley. I think he'll be here a while yet.
  22. Heard nothing of the sort from where I was stood. The massive bout of laughter when Shola missed that sitter was hillarious mind. That was funny. I have never seen so many supporters just collapse in laughter like they did then. Might not have been the same reaction in a competitive game. Amused by the following extract from the Chronicle report: "And Ameobi – who was given a superb reception from the visiting fans - was also introduced for the second period with Martins making way." TBH I thought the fans were sending him up. Hope it doesn't give the club or Ameobi any ideas about the fans being desperate for him to stay.
  23. They can f*** right off. What would be the point of that when we can loan him out directly? Hate the way young players are being bought and immediately loaned out because certain teams already have too many players and they are just stockpiling for the future. And Chelsea do not have a good record in bringing through young players - they just keep loaning them out and then buy another superstar.
  24. Comfortable top half finish. No flirtation with relegation. More entertaining football. Obvious progress to build on in the following season. A couple of youngsters staking a claim for the first team. No humiliating performances. Owen scoring 20+ goals and staying fit.
  25. United to take on Dutch big boys Jun 26 2008 by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle NEWCASTLE United look set to take on Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven at St James's Park. ChronicleLive understands that the former European Cup winners tonight confirmed they have added another friendly to their pre-season schedule and that they have lined up a trip to St James's Park on August 6 with a kick off time to be confirmed. Newcastle clashed with PSV in 2006 in a friendly under Glenn Roeder and the Magpies went down 3-2 with Shola Ameobi and Albert Luque getting on the scoresheet for the home side. United have already confirmed that they will take on Valencia on August 9 against the La Liga outfit which comes after a pre-season tournament in Mallorca when they will play Hertha Berlin on August 1 and then Real Mallorca on August 3. And Kevin Keegan will also take on Hartlepool on July 19 (3pm) before a trip to Doncaster's new KeepMoat Stadium a week later.
