good footballing teams should look to get the full backs wide every time the keeper has the ball so he can throw it out to them and start from there imo. its just f***ing pointless hoofing it up to our front line, the irony is martins is the best of the lot in the air and he's a dwarf. and regarding the team selection, absolutely no excuse for starting duff over jonas, pathetic. That's a very basic part of football (fullbacks going wide when keeper has the ball). It's just keeper can't always play it to the fullbacks because they are being marked too closely or aren't good at playing from the back. The problem with Taylor and Enrique is that they aren't exactly the most composed fullbacks. indeed it is basic, thats why we should do it, if the full backs are too tightly marked then that leaves space in behind the players that are marking them This is why we need someone witha brain as our holding midfielder. If Butt dropped off from cm and went back got the ball and could actually pass we'd keep possesion for more than 5 secondws. I pray for the day we see a decent dm.

Ha, I'm just saying if someone offered you a 1m a year job when you're out of work and it's in an area you like you'd take it and if you do a good job thats fair play. I agree I don't want a DOF, I don't even think we have different views, so this is probably pointlesss and a waste of bandwidth. -

He recruits players. So it's his fault Keegan walked and we ended up in complete and utter turmoil? That'll be why people want him out then. See what I mean? No I fully understand why people want him out, I'm just saying he won't be sacked and he does a good job. -

He recruits players. Damn you and your high speed editing. Fair enough we are crap on the pitch, but it's obvious he recruits players, Keegan said as much. I remember him saying a few times Dennis or Tony rang him up and said we've got this player then Keegan checking them on Youtube. -

so it's not Wise you have a problem with then, but the role not so sure others agree with that I made a slight edit above to add in the fact that it's easy to focus on Wise as he has no previous in this role, no prior connection to club and was disliked by many during his playing days (though neither of the latter two really matter). It's not a good combination. I agree no DOF would be best but I can't see it happening, it also seemed in Jan as if JFK actually signed the players he wanted. I think in the future we'll see the odd signing for the first team probably quite young from Wise but the manager will do most of it. Like I said Wise has done a good job and it's unfair to say otherwise. -

and he did this because 2 vital strikers were passed fit to start for him for the first time, meaning we had 3 very good strikers to attack with. his methods didnt just "click" suddenly. did we attack teams in the same manner with smith, ameobi and owen upfront? no, we didnt. dude, you're starting to annoy me with the repetitiveness of this now...i agree with you in the sense that when we had those three things clicked and he changed the system to accommodate, and it worked very well what was the alternative before they came back? what would a better manager have done with the tools at his disposal? only thing i can see is throw in untested bairns in the hope they'd do better than duff/smith etc... what else could have have done with such s****? which, again, is my entire point. the thread (i think) is bashing somebody because the football we're playing isnt great but with all the players missing what are people expecting? we looked s*** last year before martins and viduka came back so, like you say, how else can we attack teams with any potency without our best 3 strikers? if we get owen, martins and viduka (and possibly barton) all fit and playing we'll look infinitely better, like we did last year. It's not a bashing thread, more of a questioning one of where are we going? Not now, but come next season. Will we look to bring in a highly rated manager who will build a squad over the next couple of years that will play attractive progressive football? Or will we look to hire a cheap coach who will toe the line and buy hard working players who will graft out a result and try and keep us out of relegation trouble? I'm asking because it's undeniable that Kinnear was offered a two year contract extension. How does that sit with the expectations of last summer when Keegan was downplaying Ashley's aims of a top four place, saying we could aim for top eight maybe? Only the board can answer that in May, the decisions they make will tell us a lot. Good post. I would like to think we will bring in a highly rated manager playing attractive football but I cant see such a manager coming here with the current footballing set up (i.e. without full control over transfers and in all likelihood with little funding available) There will be funds available according to Llambias, the money raised from Given and N'Zogbia, plus we should be losing a few highly paid wasters at the end of the season. Someone on TT claims to be ITK that Steve Bruce is coming here in May, read what you want into that. I don't think Bruce is mates with our lot in charge can't see it happening. Gus Poyet if Kinnear can't return imo. Whelan would never let Bruce join us anyway, he hates ashley after ashey reported his company for price fixing. -
Superb speech, I can't see why anyone would disagree with it. When we're half way down the championship in a couple of years heading for league one it will be interesting to see which people still post on this forum. Yes we will probably survive this season but the way I see it we've years ahead of us with no ambition, in front of crowds below 40k! But dont worry lads they have promised to spend £8 million in the summer, its laughable For f*** sake please wake up and see whats happening The 8M isprobably on top of whatever budget we would normally have. sadly, thats a hilarious assumption. I wouldn't say so, but we don't know so we'll leave it it that. I'm hguessing though they realise the squad will need improving especially up front when we lose Owen and Viduka.

see i'm not sure i'd even agree with that 100% 'cause i have no idea to what extent the decisions being made are down to DW but i would say on some level SOMETHING works in the player recruitment part and yes we need someone who is not making these decisions i'd like to see what they could do with some decent money personally Yeah, lets just hope we have a decent budget this summer, I reckon it will be ok I'd say it would have been 10m but witht he sales hopefully 18 and I think Wise could do alot with that. -

Quoted for absolute truth, I'm also sick to death of the whole thing. Whinge, whinge without any constructive suggestions. Even the complaints are based on assumption and speculation, it's embarrassing. Exactly, I honestly am glad we have Wise here especially if JFK is our long term manager. If he brings in the quality we brought in last summer I'll be happy, I'd like more signings but I'm pretty sure Wise doesn't sign the cheques. -

The wage bill is 70.4% of our operating expenses so that's got to be the most obvious area to go looking to make savings. Targeting anything else as a starting point wouldn't make sense as the savings would me minimal in comparison. In business you always go for savings in whatever area offers the greatest gains, 10% of a 100 is better than 50% of 5. what a load of s**** mackems.gif How is that a load of s****? Mick is spot on there, both in his analagy at the bottom with regards to the %'s and he's also right about the wage bill. If it is indeed 70.4% of expenditure (and I have no reason to doubt it) then that has to be the first place he looks at trimming. Obviously if someone was on £100,000 a week but got 35 goals a season or whatever then that would justify the wages, but when you look at the likes of Geremi, Owen, Smith, Viduka, Duff, Cacapa etc, these players offer nothing to the squad because they are either s****, made of glass, or both. In some cases (Smith, Cacapa, Viduka) we're basically paying them for nothing, as well as covering the cost of their rehab and physio. I'd like to see you explain how that post is s****. My guess is just because it was Mick who posted it, maybe you should actually read it? It makes sense. Yet the point is most of those were signed under Ashley, yet they don't seem to want to take responsibility for this. They are far too quick to lay the blame under the previous regime (who were far from perfect btw) without acknowledging their own mistakes for the extraordinary high wage bill that we have. Apart from Cacapa the rest were signed when Shepherd was chairman and his boy was still negotiating deals. I've read somewhere that our wage bill is 55% higher than Everton's, that's shocking. your DOF is doing a great job. You make no sense sometimes, having a DOF may not be the best idea but he's actually done well with the players he has signed. I am not arguing the about having a DOF or anything but to say Wise has done a bad job when you compare it to the previous regime is absolutely ludicrous. Look at the players wise has signed. Jonas - 4m or whatever, bargain Bassong - 1.5M Bargain Colo 10M - a little pricey but has started every game and looks to be worth his money Guthrie - 2M Bargain Ranger - Sod all -will be World's greatest player in 1 years time Vuckic - 70k - Beat off competition from all over Europe for this lad and he looks good Xisco - hasn't been given a chance but ok Doesn't look great Nacho -You cannot really rate this is a signing as he's been i jured which in your eyes probably is Wise' fault for not having a crystal ball -
Did you slap Nolan and tell him not to get sent off again when we already have a midfield injury crisis?

I'll definately play provided its on a weekend as I normally just drink at the weekends anyway so very rarely plan anything on weekend, wouldn't mind knowing the dates, I'll go in nets. -
Guthrie not back in contention? Guthrie would be my first choice. Put him in ahead of everyone but Barton. I haven't heard anything about Gutrie, I think our best cm is him and Barton, can't wait to see them play together on a regular basis, we might actually not have the worst midfield in the league if we do.

I have lost any respect (not much) I had for NUSC after that statement. Why would anyone buy a football club to make a profit, its almost impossible, to make a profit he'd have to rebuild the side over a period of 5 years will small investment and a quality manager who can work on a budget like Moyes. They really confuse me sometimes and I also thought this was to drum up support and wasn't an Ashley out protest, yet we still see retarded banners in the background. If they conducted themselves in a professional way they may have achance but in essence they are just a rabble without any direction or plan other than repeatdly telling Ashley to piss of when its obvious he cannot.
-
You bloody idiot Nolan, I'm not bothered about the impact of the sending off in the last game but I'm now seriously scared we have to go away to a decent looking Bolton with a midfield unit of Butt and Smith or Butt and Geremi.

so what do you think of the merits of appointing a manager who won 4 titles with 2 different clubs and 3 manager of the year awards - before they do well or not so well, with your own unique gift of hindsight ? You're still fully behind Mike Ashley and his amazing success I take it ? Are we still on this question? he's a bit shy with the answer, the truth being that nobody in their right mind would consider such an appointment to be a poor one, but he might surprise us if he replies. Would you be happy if Shepherd bought the club back? do you mean the Halls and Shepherd ? I don't think SJH would, so say Douglas Hall and The Shepherds. Don't think Douglas Hall would I think it's Shepherds and other people. Of course DH would, piss about on drunken trips whilst getting 1m per year salary? eeerr........and the relevance, if the team is playing regularly in europe, filling the stadium, and signing good footballers, is what exactly ? That wasn't a retort to you, was just a joke, are you going to answer my question? -

The Universe where Huntingdon as our second best defender when everyone was knackered, back 4 was something like - Carr Ramage Edgar Huntigdon. To be fair we should have went down with that backline, League 2 at best overall. that may have been roughly our backline for 3 games max, not half the f***ing season man, honestly Aye I know but over the season though they all got a fair amount of game time.
