Would be nice to have an option on the bench but not convinced Goufran can do it from either CF or LF. Looks more of an impact player. Terrible transfer window not to provide some genuine competition.
  2. Doesn't it bother you a bit though that he doesn't cut out crosses that often? That was just something Enrique was absolutely brilliant at....

OK. Well, all of our lot were anonymous on MoTD!! Guess that was your point

Absolutely impossible to play it again until now of course. Think people forget we played Ba and Cisse in 4-4-2 last season even though we'd been very good with Ba on the left side on a front 3. So Pardew had the players for a half season last year but didn't do it. Then Ba left anyway. Anyway, Hopefully Remy isn't as precious!

MoTD was gash mate. He was good today. Gave them problems. He's good on the ball. He was blowing after 20 minutes though

Not really. We played well today and the win was brilliant but some of the stuff that's been posted on here afterwards is f***ing criminal like. It is If we play like that for the next 6-8 games i'll be delighted but it's a bit premature at the moment. Let's see how we're looking half way through November rather than just playing 90 minutes of good football out of 450 minutes. about 105mins if you include then of the fulham game. I was including the Fulham game. Villa had a good 20-25 minutes after half time today. We looked ropey then. Very happy to see that we recovered. Very happy. villa did have a good spell, we didn't look ropey though, get what you mean though. as someone who has pushed the 4-3-3 since ben arfa arrived, seen it work very well the season before last before being ditched because of a bad result (and who knows why last season ?) i'd like to see it as our default and I think it will with remy's arival. maybe differnt variants at time, tiote/jonas for an injured/suspended cabaye/anita/sissoko. It gets the best out of ben arfa which creates space elsewhere. Yeah, know i was (sort of) rowing with you about th3 4-3-3 thing. I think 4-5-1 is more realistic but today, there FBs were so lax we really did play 4-3-3. I thought the positioning of Anita and Sissoko was key today. They were always close to each other and always in a line. Very good platform. When the Villa tried to play through our middle they would look up and see those 2 just occupying the space they needed. Forced to play bad balls which we largely lapped up. I wasn't expecting that degree of tactical discipline from our lot so was delighted to see it.

^^ Don't agree at all. I look at this match with no context and will say he clearly did very well today and i'm delighted. It tells me nothing else because if you take it in context then we've been worse than p*ss poor for more than a calender year. I'll just take this game as it is. Which was good viewing and 3 points. Delighted.

It's one game in a season, that's what it is. In other words, very little to judge how a season will go from.

  12. Krul 5 Debuchey 7 Colo 7 MYM 9 Santon 7 Anita 8 Sissoko 7 Cabaye 6 Remy 7 Cisse 6 HBA 10 Gouf 8 Tiote 7 Sammy 6 Pardew 8 Thought we were set up well. Good attitude at the start of the game. Everyone knew Villa would come out strong in the 2nd half. Would have been nice if we could have matched that intensity but it was nice to see we weren't over awed and stuck to our game, limited them and then pushed for the winner. Subs were good too.

I'm sure he'll be happy the squad has a got a few players that can compete for positions. Taylor, Tiote, Marveaux, Sammy, Dummet/Haidara, Jonas. As others have said, Cisse needs to feel his place is under threat too. That will all be a big help to Pardew. Will make his job easier.
  14. When we had Enrique you just knew 99% of the time the cross would not be coming in, Enrique would just close that down. Can't say that about Santon. Ball comes in from his side too often for my liking. He is better with the ball though. Still, he had a good game.

There's been relevant mitigating factors people are happy to ignore so it's a pointless debate. Some people are almost upset he might be on his way to proving them wrong. Bitter-sweet for the boo boys... Where as him being utterly sh*te for 99% of last season didn't prove you wrong at all. Yeah right... If you are so stupid as to ignore the other factors that's your issue. I never said he didn't under perform but if he's a lame manager then last year he had his crutch kicked from under him. A lot of people are just hysterical idiots though... Yep, and tbh, your jumping around because we beat Villa marks you out as one of them.

We were good for 20 mins against Fulham and for 70 mins today. Do you mind if we see a more games before we start fellating him? Because, tbf, i did give it 10 games or so last season before i said he was having a mare. So probs fair to say that if we put in another 8 good performances (we can let the first 70 mins against Fulham go) we can say he looks like he's having a better season.

  18. Villa were very motivated for the first 25 mins of the 2nd half. Really came at us, just like last year. You could sense they were going to score. After that though i thought we really limited their opportunities, forced them to play sh*t simple balls our back 4 could read. Was very pleased with the discipline and shape of our midfield. I was worried we would get stretched but we stayed close through the middle. Anita'a positioning was very good. Moussa is an animal. He can also play. Thought you could just tell we had the extra quality. Remy and HBA were always dangerous and Villa didn't give them enough respect tbh, let us run down the flanks all game. Our midfield was better than theirs and our back 4 dealt with their front 3 better than their back 4 dealt with ours. That's it really, we were just better
  19. Thought he was very, very good. Better than Colo today. He's so bloody quick. Good anticipation of problems today, covered for his team mates. Can't ask for much more tbh.
  20. A lot better today. No shame it getting done for pace of Agbonlahor. He should have been more alert to the threat though. Good option on the right when we're attacking.

Our threat was always going to be from wide areas today. He kept their 2 CBs occupied which freed up space for HBA/Remy/Gouf. He didn't tear up any trees but he was alright.
  22. Loved him as footballer. Seems a bit over the top as a manager tbh.
  23. MYM can defo match him for pace. Think Taylor would be more likely to get to a header tbh.

If he speaks publicy then he can expect scrutiny. Hardly out of order for anyone to do just that. Shame journalist's don't call him out on it at the time.
