I can see why he prefers Weimann and Benteke, but people go on about that freezing out, whilst forgetting Lambert actually made him captain at one point, and that he's been out with a couple of injuries, too. Bent not playing isn't our problem. Our major problem is a dreadfully lightweight midfield, which allows pressure to be put on the defence, which is also lightweight and inexperienced. If in this window we sign at least a tough central midfielder, a left back and maybe a CB too, we'll stay up. If we don't, we are done for. Any idea if the rumour you owe us more money if Bent plays another league game is true? It's nonsense.

Because Man United are one of the biggest clubs in the world, who win things constantly, whilst Man City are the richest club in the world, and therefore pay obscene wages. A better way of looking at it would have been to consider Man City's pulling power before the advent of stupid amounts of money. So you think Remy went to a smaller club just because they are in London ? No, I was saying it was a mixture of two things - London and money. Not all footballers are like that, though, but it's not a surprise that a lot are.

With all due respect to WBA and their fans (respect that never seems to be returned) WBA don't generate HALF the money NUFC do I'll tell you precisely how much respect is due to Albion and their fans - precisely none, the horrible cunts. They generate a lot less money, but their tightfistedness is still legendary.
-
Yeah, but like you said, boing boinging from one division to the other, while the owner kept his hands very firmly in his pockets.
-
Ask an Albion fan what they think of their board. If you think Ashley is tightfisted and doesn't see the need to invest, Albion's lot are way, way worse. Isn't this really about picking a club doing well and saying they must have good owners. What about the fact that until very recently, Albion were a yo-yo club? How good were their owners then?
-
Why ? Because there are a hell of a lot of shite owners out there. Plus I'd imagine if it got to the point at which Ashley felt forced out (I don't think he'd get what he wants for it otherwise), he'd actively sell us to the biggest cunts he could find. There aren't many good owners in the PL really. Man City maybe, because they have bought success. Everton for sticking with Moyes, but even they are skint. QPR fans might end up thanking the owners eventually, but they might also go bust. Even the Man Utd and Liverpool owners are disliked for various reasons. Swansea's board are good, gotten all their management appointments in last few years bang on the money and doing it all within a sensible budget. Norwich also seem to have their head screwed on right Yes, but how much does it take for "good" owners to start looking like bad ones. For four years, Lerner was hailed by all and sundry as a good owner, one of the best, but a series of terrible decisions, and he's not looking quite so great.

It's only going to get worse, too, as income from bums on seats at matches continues to become a smaller percentage of turnover when the TV money goes even more mental.

fernandes doesn't have THAT much money. He won't support them in 5 years time. They have to be in the CL with the wages they have within a few years. Exactly - he'll have spent his entire net worth within a year or two at this rate. Can't see them getting much debt from banks. It is a disaster waiting to happen. One of the Mittals owns a third of QPR. Nuff said about where their money will be coming from. Not that simple, though, having an owner with loads of money doesn't mean that owner is going to plough it in ad infinitum.

Board failed to strengthen with players from a point of strength to keep the momentum going. Been very unlucky with injuries whereas last season apart from Taylor we were very lucky. Too many players playing poorly and a manager who even at times with the better players in the side has seemed clueless this season and lacking ideas.........let alone when we're reduced to all the backups. Hmm. Still, strange to see such a swing, even given things like injuries
-
As a casual observer, I really do not get what happened there. How did such a good side go to being so mediocre, so quickly?

Think you'll manage to hold on to Benteke and Weiss? Weimann you mean? Yes. Not Benteke, though.

He doesn't know what he's doing. Admittedly, we've been let down by higher paid players who haven't delivered under this manager as they didn't under the last, but it's way too much too soon. The concept is sound enough. It's the execution of it that is wrong.
-
The last few games, it has become pretty clear to me that we are going down. I still believe in what Lambert is trying to do, but it's too much, too soon. It's like the Tories and the economy. I can see they need to do something with spending, but the rapidity of it is doing huge damage. I fear we will have to go down before we really start to improve. Too many youngsters, heads drop too easily, and they're nigh on impossible to lift after a bad sequence of results.

He's 27 not 23. His type of player - pace and athelticism tend to decline quickly as they approach their 30's. He needs the money now. So what do you do? Bend to his demands? What's the difference in what you were offering and what they did? You could equally say that if he's that type of player, he needs the money because he's going to decline, as you said, which doubly makes him one to avoid, especially at that cost. Nothing we can do. We have to stick to our wage structure, but that doesn't mean fernandes and qpr are monkeys like some are trying to say... There's a good amount of evidence to suggest they are, though, isn't there? Look at the players that club has bought over the last year or so, and the money they will be on. Utterly unsustainable. Fernandes might not be as bad as previous Portsmouth owners, but they were so bad, there's plenty of scope to not be, and still fuck things up royally.

It is largely impossible to build anything these days. Even if you do manage to put a decent team together, on a sound financial basis, you just know at the back of your mind, that pretty soon, one of these moneyed clubs is going to come in and take them away. In fact, they don't even actually have to *do* that any more, just the talk that they will do is enough to fuck things up for you. Match-going supporters have become less and less important over the years, and with this new Sky deal next season, they're going to become even less important. Things are going to get worse. Televison money and the Champions League (two closely intertwined things) have ruined everything, in my opinion. The whole thing - clubs, players, agents, tv companies, pundits, chairmen, the lot - is just one enormous fucking gravy train these days, and if you're not on it, you really don't count. It's gobsmacking that so many people still do give a shit, when you have a lot of clubs, many traditional old clubs like you, us, Everton, whoever, who actually can not win a league. I consider myself so lucky I saw us do that, because, however good a season your side has in future, you know that barring getting bought by some human rights abusing, vile middle east regime, you're playing in a competition which you can not win, one in which finishing fourth has become the new "winning".

I think you're both arguing the same thing. Posssibly I am just super wary now, after our recent experience, of getting lumbered with high earning, uncommitted players, of the wrong age group. I'd also say that there are only two factors which could possibly swing him to them rather than you, one is London, which you can't change, the other is ££££ which you can change, but there have to be limits. Mind you, lucky you lot even trying to get these signings in. I dread to think of the sort of dross at the end of the market we'll be shopping in.

Yes they are. Portsmouth had a new stadium in the pipeline. Portsmouth actively were looking for extra sponsors and thought buying success now would buy them guaranteed future which was completely wrong. They still went he same way as Leeds. Which QPR will do when they get relegated. Fernandez is way smarter than anyone who was ever connected to Pompey. History is littered with the still smouldering corpses of clever, rich men who went into football club ownership and still got burned.
-
QPR are the most insanely, short termist run side in the league. If they go down, they'll more than likely implode. The problems provincial sides, ones who can't offer constant CL football, face is that we're not in London, and London is one of the best cities on earth. That's one factor which will swing players (and their wives), there probably aren't many better places to be than London for a youmg multi-millionaire. If Remy has been swung by the insane £££ that QPR have offered, then, frankly, you're better off without him. It's at the very least an indication of what his commitment would be like.

If we get 3 points next week, I probably would too. We have to come out of these 3 games, at worst, undefeated. Reading will have a bit of confidence now. I felt sick when I saw they'd won.
-
If you could, I'd take that point right now.

From what I have seen of us, and you, lately, that has got 0-0 written all over it. We can't sack our manager. It would undoubtedly make things worse. We need bodies in. If we had to change manager, too, then it wouldn't happen.
