If you had a useless, gangrene infected leg you wouldn't wait until you had a replacement prosthetic leg sorted before you had the useless, gangrene leg (which was poisoning your whole body) cut off would you? Same with Smith. He has a negative effect on the club. He's shit, he costs a fortune each week, he has 4 years left to run on his contract, he depresses the fans, etc. Get rid even if we don't manage to replace him. A useless body is not better than no body. PS Can we hide this thread to visitors to the forum? We don't want to damage our chances of selling Smith by the wrong people reading it. I remember early in the Summer the disappointment when Middlesbrough were supposed to be interested in Smith and then they denied it.

Have we been in such a mess even before a ball is kicked before ?

Quite often a lot of transfers are rushed through on the last day. It's annoying not to have all your players in for the start of the season but it's nothing new. I think we need two creative midfielders. If we get one what happens if he gets injured? If we get two an opposition team will find it more difficult to mark our creative players out of a game. -
I'd be amazed if we weren't trying to get rid of him. Amazed then angry. It's a long shot but here's hoping..... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/gossip_and_transfers/7539408.stm We need someone who can sell snow to Eskimos because that's what it will take to offload Smith.

To the tune of that god awful "There's No One Quite Like Grandma" song by St Winifred's School Choir (If you don't know it you're lucky). Smithy, we hate you Smithy, we do

It reached that point a long time ago. I was going to go round my brothers to watch the match tonight but when I realised our only striker (in the loosest sense of the word possible) was Smith I didn't bother. Sounds like I made a good choice. Honestly, Keegan should tell Smith he'll never get a game and should tell his agent to find him another club (if they can find any team crazy enough). I can't believe Keegan thinks he should get a game. I don't care who is injured, I'd rather play anyone but Smith. The kids from the youth teams would be a better option up front. Allardyce paid £6M for Smith. Makes the £5M Sunderland paid for Chopra look like a bargain.

Fabricio Coloccini signed from Deportivo La Coruña on 5 year deal
LoveItIfWeBeatU replied to Cronky's topic in Football
I hope not. It's cringe worthy. Could you imagine us signing an American player and having St. James' Park chanting "USA, USA"? It would turn my stomach. I don't have a problem with Argentina, the USA or anywhere else but Newcastle are English so why chant a foreign countries name?. Just to make him feel welcome? Chanting his name would make him feel welcome. -

Just goes to show how diabolical Smith is as a player that fans spend their time arguing about whether he is a twat of a human being off the pitch (no one argues about how shit a player he is). Allardyce has a lot to answer for.

We should be playing Smith in midfield in the pre-season friendlies. Not because he's any better there than up front but because the more we play him up front the more he shows other clubs scouts how shit he is there. If we played him in midfield other clubs looking to buy a striker may think "Smith isn't doing well at Newcastle because they play him out of position. I'm sure he'd be good in his proper position up front as a striker. Let's buy him!".
-
We can't afford to give Smith an extended run upfront. We'd be relegated by Christmas. Alan Smith is our Ali Dia.

Given shot down the (no doubt media bullshit) rumour of Arsenal wanting him by saying he wanted to stay at Newcastle so I can't see him agreeing to go to Blackburn.
-
NUFC are no longer a PLC so they don't have to announce transfer fees now. We are unlikely to hear how much we sell or buy players for now unless the club we buy off or sell to announce it (or the players agent leaks it).

"Can be" as in one in a thousand? I've taken Malaria tablets and there was no problem at all. I would have thought any side effects weren't as bad as catching Malaria. You'd think club doctors would insist that players took these obvious precautions.

I notice you didn't mention Smith or is he covered by the etc? Hmmm, I really don't know. In my minds eye I can always see the likes of Duff maybe coming good and adapting based on the fact that at one time he was a class act, but I've never really liked Smith or been overly impressed with him. I'd love it if he became a reliable supersub or just a 8-10 goals a season striker for us because then he'd serve a purpose but as of now I'm really not sure. I was just kidding. I hold no hope for Smith.

It would take some explaining if we sold him. Given and Harper are in their 30s. All out other keepers are young. Loan them out to get experience. Why would Krul want a permanent move to Holland? He may play one season there then return to play in the Premier League. I'll believe we want to sell him when it happens and not before.

James Milner keen to negotiate better Newcastle deal (Other Contracts too)
LoveItIfWeBeatU replied to Stu's topic in Football
It's not that Milner deserves more it's the likes of Smith, etc. deserve less. -
As far as the spinning goes an instructor could quite easily make it a mega punishing/slog of a 45mins. I can do 45 mins spinning but I doubt know my engine is nee match for a Premier League player. You'd be surprised. I imagine they keep themselves in reasonable shape when on holiday but some probably don't. I do Spinning with the same instructor. I asked him if they'd finished it easily. He said no. Martins was fastest and he couldn't keep up with my mate when they were all going at 100% speed. To be fair to them, if you are told to go at e.g. 85% of your maximum, you would imagine that the normal fit gym going person has a lower 85% maximum compared to a premier league players 85% maximum.

A friend of mine is a gym instructor at The Village hotel, Cobalt Business Park, Silverlink. He was at work today when he saw the Newcastle squad turn up. They'd come to use the facilities. Terry Mac said they have used David Lloyd's in the past but they don't rate it. My friend took the 13 players and two fitness coaches for a Spinning class (Exercise bikes). When he put his microphone head set on Given shouted "Allardyce is back!" Martins, Given, Milner, Guthrie, Gutierrez (who speaks a little English and is apparently funny), Edgar and Ameobi were the players he mentioned to me. Keegan wasn't there. He said all the players were knackered at the end of the class (which usually lasts 45 minutes), probably because they've never done it before. The track they enjoyed most was Blur's 'Song 2'. My friend asked the fitness coaches if the players could complete the 'Bleep' test when they come back from their holidays. He was told "No" like the suggestion that they might be able to was insane. This reply made my skin crawl: - Reminds me of a taxi driver in Mauritius who had Beckham and Man U stickers on his dash board. He was trying to have a go at me for being a Newcastle fan. I explained to him that it is to do with being from Newcastle. His reason for supporting Man U? "They are the best."
