    U23s & Academy

Fabulous post. Obviously it would be great if the first team could be managed as smartly as the academy, but failing that at least we've got some hope!
  3. Man, that euphoria from the weekend has worn away really quickly
  4. The negotiation methods of the current regime absolutely stagger me. All we seem to talk of is in ultimatums and that basically screws up everything, whether it be contracts or transfers. Shepherd: "You want 5m for Luque you say!? Nonsense, take 10m or fuck off!" Ashley: "You want 10m for Maiga you say!? Nonsense, take 5m or fuck off!" Why can't we just have sane, normal owners?
  5. I've said it before but I'll say it again, I honestly don't mind who we get! Never mind Cissokho and Pieters, at this point I'm pretty damn close to be willing to accept Wayne Bridge.
  6. It's comparing the summer spending of big clubs to fashion. The Wenger panel is a riff on "The Emperor's New Clothes" He's saying "I've signed big stars. They just can't be seen by anyone stupid or incompetent." I could attempt to explain the whole thing but really most of it wouldn't be funny if you're not Korean. Can you tell me what are the Real Madrid/Barcelona bits saying? The top panel says "dressed to impress on a night out," in reference to how both sides have strengthened for their CL campaigns. The bottom panel says "still trendy at home too." It's basically saying that all the other La Liga sides are well fucked as a result.

  8. Maybe the secret plan is to piss off every club in Europe so no one will be willing to do business with us.
  9. most teams do this to be fair, we have signed a few players...i know theyd be starting positions but this is an aspect im not bothered with, im more concerned with the fact i can see us not signing players at all rather than leaving them late... I was pretty supportive of driving a hard bargain early in the window so we wouldn't look desperate. Now that we actually are desperate, or should be at least, there needs to be a change of thinking.

  11. I have to say, my patience with this shit is rapidly running thin now that the end of the window is within sight.
  12. To be fair, it wouldn't be NUFC if we didn't fail to address at least one glaring need during the summer and had to drag ourselves through the season with utterly shit alternatives, with the drama culminating in January when it's "glaringly obvious we need a striker" yet we fail to get one yet again and everyone on here implodes.
  13. Well, he's British enough for Dalglish at least
  14. Or we could be using the Cissokho link to drive down the price/wages of the Pieters deal. WE could still end up with Wayne Bridge on a short term loan deal depending on what happens on deadline day by the looks of it. There needs to be a word to describe players like Wayne Bridge or Carlton Cole. They're like the Boogeymen of transfer windows.
  15. It can't really be that clear-cut. If we were adamant that we wanted Pieters (the "cheap" option) from the start it looks like that deal could have been tied up weeks ago. The whole reason this has dragged on seems to be because a window of opportunity opened for Cissokho. Whatever. I pretty much don't care any more. Either one please.
  16. I suppose we have enough time to try to get in for one more target. Can't see who we'd try for though. (Then again, I didn't even know Maiga existed until we bid for him.) Missing out on all of Gameiro, Gervinho, Erding, Maiga... What fun this striker chase has been.

We're going to get another game of Ryan Taylor at LB, aren't we?
  18. We've had such a good start to the season, the mood is so good, everyone is happy. Surely a nailed on loss.

    Sunderland...

Aye, apparently he was holding back their style of play as they used the long ball, with him gone they were going to revert to Brazil 70 style :colo: :colo: Take one man out of one-man team. Watch one-man team collapse.
  21. It's no surprise we lack fitness given our holocaust of our pre-season. It will come. It has to be seen as a positive that despite our team being far from ready, we've picked up 4 points from two very hard fixtures. (Well, one very hard one and one piss easy one ) As the players build match fitness and the new signings start to gel, we'll only get better.

    Sunderland...

I literally cannot believe that this group of people are real. I've never actually been there so sometimes I imagine that Sunderland is just a myth people from Newcastle invented to explain away the retards, criminals, and other undesirables in your city.
  23. I remember being on a similar high around this time last season and being brought crashing down by some shit team at SJP. Forget who it was. Stoke or Blackpool or Wigan or all of them or something.
  24. It's criminal that Best isn't getting a game despite our dire striker situation. What the fuck has he got to do to get in ahead of Shola?
