Fantastic ball by Jose but their defence is all over the place!

3-1 Newcastle.

I thought Jonas had a good game against Sunderland and has been quite impressive so far this season. He can tackle (to an extent), pass and run with the ball, but maybe does too much running and has little end product. He worked well with Enrique down the left hand side and was able to cover as Jose overlapped. I don't like the fact he exaggerates some contact and can go down rather easily, but the fact that teams look to take him out proves he is a threat. It's safe to say that we had the most joy with Gutierrez on the ball against Sunderland and if Owen had been on the pitch we might have had a different story. Most of the balls from Jonas were along the ground and to the front post, except the one cross where McCartney had to clear from under the bar, but no one gambled or rather Ameobi and Carroll looked for the header. Also if we had someone who was able to arrive late in the box from midfield we could have had a few opportunities to score.

The squad is only as strong as its weakest player and we are relying on a bench full of kids due to injuries which is not good enough. I think the rest of our season depends on our injured player to provide some quality into the team. Its a shame that the season is so close this year as normally you will see that players with the clubs down the bottom of the table unite and get some decent results (WBA when they stayed up a few years ago and West Ham a couple of season ago), but its going to be close to call with a lot of teams in the same boat.

How do you work that one out? Surely it would be that if there was a mention of us then that might have been the case. I'm clutching at straws in the hope that we do actually sign someone else, otherwise its just a bit meh our activity this window. Although I can't believe Bolton thought they would sign Veloso, Sean Davis or Pedro Mendes maybe.

Two offers for Veloso (£10m and a £1.5m loan deal) from Bolton were rejected by Sporting. No mention of us so he might not have been the player we bid for.

He has looked a broken man of late, wouldnt be suprised to see him walk. It might be the reason why he hasn't signed this 2 and a half year deal or he is lying about being offered the contract. Who knows with NUFC!

I can't say I have saw Lovenkrands that much, from the brief appearances against City and Sunderland he looks like he has pace to burn and offers versatitlity in the attacking positions. Although I don't think that much of Nolan I thought he did well against Sunderland, but also offered us an attacking threat from midfield. I lost count of how many times he ran into the box, whereas we were missing that with Guthrie and Butt. Taylor has scored a few times against us, but thats the only reason I know of him. I can't say I know much about his overall game. Losing Given is a blow, although potential masterstoke if Krul can live up to his hype and we do have Harper to cover the goalkeeping position. N'Zogbia is a decent player, but the wrong attitude and to get £6m for him is a good deal. If we can manage to stay up this season we could have a massive summer window.

So we know that there was an £8m bid rejected by Man City for Johnson, but I wonder who the other £8m bid was for?

He was saying Cisse was a head case when the camera was on him after the tackle on Bassong, or thats what it looked like he said.

Taylor wants to move to Newcastle. However, the stumbling block for this move is N'Zogbia as Wigan are wanting to sign him and include Taylor in the deal. This deal would have been completed, but the N'Zogbia situation has encouraged Bruce to make a move for him.

turns into a good player on FM. French winger? no thanks. He is very skillful, but a bit young to throw into a relegation battle.

Possible that the Ebondo deal is not going to go through maybe? At least if Taylor comes we will have someone who can take free kicks.

It's been obvious he wants to leave for a while now. I doubt that he wants to leave just because Kinnear said his name wrong, but he has hardly performed for a good season and a half in order to secure a move away. When he first arrived I was very impressed as he had pace, delivery and even chipped in with a few goals. Now though most of his time is spent either out of position (lack of adaptability is not very good as Aston Villa often deploy Reo Coker at RB iirc) or half arsed. He has played for France at U21 level, but he is not good enough to play for the full side. His main strength is running with the ball, but he can be headless at times.

I think we bid £1m which was laughed off by Bates.

Although the atmosphere was amazing for the FA Cup semi at Cardiff I don't think we had any chance of winning that game from the off. We won off the field, but that doesn't win trophies. Butt, Robert and Kluivert were all poor and I'm sure Dyer and Bowyer were suspended.

I was reading the Kadar thread and searched for the academy. Ranger not a great finisher How is Zamblera doing? We seem to be performing well at this level and have recently won the derby reserve game 2-1 with Godsmark continuing his fine form in 2009 so far.
