i'd like to think, once they get knocked out of the CL, that they'd have the sense to come out publicly and state they've had a review and concluded the entire first team squad needs long-term rebuilding - this is about the only thing that'll take the pressure off moyes imho if they continue down the mata route of massive marquee signings to try and recapture the fergie glory i think it'll get worse for them if they ruthlessly cull the old and shit from the team in the summer and replace with loads of potential then i think it'll go better for moyes, i also think it'll be something he might succeed at given a few years problem is their loan repayments i suppose, doubt they can stay out of the CL very long

didn't seem to martinez or poyet tbh Do you disagree with the wider point though? Or can you just think of a couple of counter examples? i agree with the wider point about the value of the PL yes, however i'm struggling to think of examples of teams in our position this season with no threat of relegation and good team who just don't give a fuck...perhaps you can help me out with that? it's easier to think of examples of teams threatened with relegation who try their hearts out to win cup games tbh

i'm really not, i'm just bemused at how ok you are with pardew being so pliant what grinds my gears as much as anything is he's remembered as a player for one thing as far as i know, scoring in the semi of the FA cup, i wonder if he looks back on that game as time he could have spent shopping with the wife instead, or just having a rest so palace could make sure they finished in a better spot that year? i don't care about ashley or what he says to pardew, i care about how little integrity this man has that he bends so easily and ultimately denies his own players the chance of glory he had himself once upon a time
-
so in fact then you are on a personal level excusing pardew from doing his job to the best of his ability because ashley tells him cups are not a priority?
-
i'll hold my hands up if i misread this then because it sounds very much to me like you're excusing the players and manager from being arsed because the board are

this post beggars belief, it's actually borderline unbelievable to me What do you find unbelievable? i find it staggering that a fan of a football team could write this, i believe a paying ST holder no less? "how can we expect the players and management" to be bothered about playing in the cups? holy fuck, because that's their job and 1,000's people come to watch the team try to win - the players i partially understand because they have the spectre of doom telling them how tired they are, how they can't compete, and that the cups aren't important...you're basically accepting that the man has no integrity as a football manager, you understand that right? as for the bit in red, on top of acknowledging the man is a puppet/fraud you're also accepting he's a shit manager because when he changes the team in the cup we're essentially doomed to fail so his record goes - he's a manager who can only get a performance out of a tiny group of people, and that's if mike and joe tell him it's ok to do so what do you think poyet would have done if ellis short had said the game at OT last night wasn't a priority? i've never, in all my years of watching football, so much as heard of a manager who danced to the owners tune like pardew it's fucking sickening

I'm not, personally. Do you have kids? where's this going? i've hated my job for the last 1.5 years, absolutely hated it, but it pays well and kids are fucking expensive not sure how that helps pardew not being able to get a team to bother their arse in cup games tbh
-
i thought this was lifted right out of the pardew excuses thread tbh
-
it's making me angrier the more i think about it tbh, a manager like poyet in the job 5 minutes and haunted by the spectre of relegation can get his team to put absolutely everything into 120 minutes of football like last night and win, meaning another game in their calendar but the chance to win something poyet knows man, he was part of a the chelsea team that weren't constant title challengers but he knows getting to cup finals and winning them is a step in the right direction for everyone concerned at any club pardew can barely get them to turn up for fucks sake, we'll be nothing as long as this bellend has the club reeking of fear and failure
-
already had mackems posting whatever that true geordie video is to me (can't view at work)...they're fucking loving it
-
crazy to take any of these fuckers like barry and lampard - our goose is cooked, we all know it, there's not a snowballs chance in hell we can win it, absolutely everyone knows this so why take has beens? fill the squad full of the most promising kids and go and fucking enjoy it, hope they mature well for the next euros
-
hate this prick - already anticipating his excuses for the mackems game it'll be worth bearing in mind, when we play them, that'll it'll be their 4th game in 11 days if i'm not mistaken vs. our 2nd game in the same period...if he uses the tiredness excuse due to playing norwich he needs shot with shit, but i don't think he will - more likely they'll be on a boost from winning their cup games (all of the above is merely a rant at pardew for being a gutless, ambition-less wanker, goes without saying i hope we batter the fuck out of them)
-
ha ha, daft cunts we'l be finishing 9th, NINTH!! silly, silly mackems
-
you need to relax man
-
do they know that yet? imagine it'll go down well
-
i think the manager thing comes into play at the top level (particularly with younger players) in terms of the managers track record of improving players, making good players great players, this type of thing that'll be where moyes has no pull in the realms of guardiola, klopp, mourinho, ancelloti et al - they'll have to use finance to beat that until such time as moyes has such a track record, which could be either a very long time, or never
-
things is they've got so little through the middle when rooney isn't playing that it's relatively easy to isolate their wide players and cover them well, that won't change by simply buying better wide players imo...they need to up their threat on both fronts if they want dramatic improvement
-
suppose we have to hope for something like china, or maybe qatar ahead of the WC if it ever gets confirmed - some wealthy fuckers who have a reason to buy a club and invest to raise their profile around the world via exposure from the PL to be honest, what other reason is there for anyone investing in the league? in order to stay in the fucker you have to more or less spend every penny you earn (arguably more) so it's not like another ashley is gonna come along and invest for profit as there doesn't appear to be any unless your plan is arsenal-like to sign anelka's every year for 200k and sell for 20m after a couple of years so yeah, china or something* pls, fuck off ashley we'll probably get kim jong-un with dennis rodman as manager (JFK technical advisor)

Makes no sense to wait until all the other Premiership clubs also have that 60m cheque burning in their back pocket. Guess we'll have a ready made excuse for not investing in a hugely inflated transfer market. Makes no sense to us yeah, but it seems like classic Ashley though. Sense to us was spending some of what we were guaranteed to be receiving in the summer. How do you come to that conclusion? Most evidence points to a pretty canny policy to try and get deals in place well in advance. Caballa apparently for this summer, and a whole raft of players last summer which presumably because we had put the groundwork in, were able to be brought forward. I'm not explaining that like. Jesus.

by the way, is it worth remembering that the new finance deal kicks in at the end of this season? so at the end of this season we get the first increased payment...lines up with what people like douglas have been saying about a shake up of the squad in the summr and trying to tie the cabella deal up for the summer etc. if mike's getting a cheque for 60m in may, what's the likelihood of him dipping into his pockets in janaury seeing as we're all but guaranteed safety? probs been said mind
