  1. alternatively you don't run a business into the ground and make it LESS professional if you ever intend to sell it for a profit do you? Think this guy made my point a bit better ... wasn't disagreeing with you, just being devils advocate...i'm with what madras says above, jiminez/llambias etc... wouldn't likely enter his thoughts if he got a daft offer, utlimately they'd be employees of the club and due a big payoff should the new owners not want to keep them so it'd hardly be a deal breaker but 100% with you, all points to the long term for sure, and long may it continue (with a little extra spending on the first team hopefully)
  2. can anyone think of a company that isn't ? manu? oooooops liverpool? ooooops chelski? ooooops spurs? oooooops if only we were journalists!

  4. Mate I've just nearly decapitated some goon in the office for saying that. Turns out he's a toon fan that only reads the sun, no other publications, just the sun. Says it all really. His card is marked. who only reads the sun? fucks sake man...imagine how skewed your perspective on everything must be! Got images of his perspective on life "Aye, the price of petrol is through the roof, but ye knar, its not al bad. That Abbey Clancy's still gettin' her tits oot." maaaaaaaaan, been away from the UK too long, just had a pang of nostalgia for page three!!!!
  5. this would by my understanding; no direct fee then nothing for velez can't see what there is to worry about really unless there's something we're all totally unware of...if, as it appears, he was able to terminate his contract legally then that's that surely?

  7. is it news? it'd be a 200m (ish) profit in a year, wouldn't surprise me if he would sell at that price big difference between that and touting the club about like a door to door salesman
  8. James are you up on this webster malarkey? I thought I was until Velez Sarsfield declared that they owned him. interested to see how this pans out personally, you'd like to think we did our research and there are no loose ends for mallorca to hang us with under shepherds half-arsed tenure i could easily have seen this coming back and biting us, i'd like to think it wouldn't now but mallorca evidently seem to think there's a case to be made
  9. anyone else find liverpools transfer targets laughable? gareth barry & robbie fucking keane (should the strong links in the papers be true) exactly how on gods green earth does benitez think these two will take him any closer to the title? in what world is gareth barry any better than xabi alonso anyway? never mind selling the better player for less money than you're gonna have to pay for the inferior one!! dudes lost it, if liverpool want the title and not cup runs they need shot of benitez IMO
  10. dave, don't kick off man 'cause i'm all for this transfer both in the way it's been done and the contractual/scouting side of it BUT, i really think you should have waited with this thread until we've spent the 18m+ modric money, would have had much more credence anyway, howay the signings!!
  11. time to chill then really, no fee as such so hopefully "that" money can go elsewhere!!!
  12. greydos: you're forgetting modric and dos santos - even forgetting them barton isn't a good enough passer of the ball for that team, huddlestone brings as much as barton to a game in a different way, taino is probably as good a player too reo-coker is a better box to box player, i wasn't forgetting barry i was counting him but i think JB's about a par with petrov west ham, alright then everton cahill and arteta...! blackburn OK man city what about fernandes, he's better than JB for me i don't reckon he was half as good as you're making out either, someone else said it but he raised his game from utter shite to decent IMO, to good if you're being generous
  13. everything else aside anyone reckon he'd get a start in the teams who are our so-called rivals? that's what we need to be asking ourselves i reckon spurs, nope villa, nope pompey, not a snowballs west ham, perhaps, long shot everton, nup blackburn, hmmmm? man city, history aside, nup miss any teams there? get shot, but not before we get shot of butt & geremi IMO...bartons younger and as effective as either of the two of them on the pitch
  14. With the threat of prison looming over him if he remotely steps out of line, I'd say he was less likely to do something like this again than ever before (for the next 2 years at least). I'd guess we'll see a model pro after this actually, although I don't deny he's now stereotyped for life and almost anything he does or says will be turned into a negative causing bad press for himself and by consequence whichever club he ends up playing for, and anything he is rumoured to have done will be instantly fact (see Bellamy). Despite what a lot of you seem to be suggesting Barton isn't some thug who enjoys going out looking for fights and then brags about it to his mates, he's a bloke with a serious anger management problem which he acknowledges and gets treatment for. He was stupid to get himself in this situation knowing he would be the target of provocation on a night out like that and knowing that he can't control himself, and he's paying the price for that stupidity. Anyone who thinks Barton is getting off with a lighter punishment than a normal person is as mental as he is tbh. How many people who get into a scrap like this will have it hanging over them for the rest of their lives as Barton will? How many will have every wannabe hard man they meet trying to wind them up? How many will have the nation's press on their back following them around and looking for the slightest thing to put them in a bad light? How many will be forever pre-judged by the moral majority no matter how much they try to change their nature? Barton's serving his legal punishment, and will continue to be punished once he gets out. Doesn't seem to hurt Chelsea or Man U. Different type of cuntishness, but the principal's the same. all that means is should man utd or chelsea get rid of the players who are convicted of being cunts. i say yes and i said so when cantona should have (IMO) been kicked out of football. couldn't agree more, cantona should never have walked onto another english pitch after that outside of the stadium, however, precedents need to be set when a player is found guilty of something like this (or drink driving or whatever) and they need to be stuck to as an industry otherwise we'll stay in the situation we're in now - i believe it's the same for all walks of life, not just football, if a highly paid director of a company gets arrested sniffing coke off a hookers hipbone then he should be sacked if these people are to be be so highly rewarded for what they do they should be made to suffer consequences when they go astray pie in the sky bullshit though, money talks at the end of the day and football (insert own industry here) looks after it's own
  15. Is that his year of birth or does he have Buffon-eque right wing(not the position) tendancies? what's the script with that buffon story? never heard it, be a pity if i couldn't like the guy anymore
  16. personally think that's barton going nowhere now he's getting out in time for pre-season however i also think if the club were to receive a bid that gives them a chance to recoup some of the fee and get shot of the wages and the man he'll be off - a few clubs like bolton might make the bid, but would they take the wages?
  17. don't think you're alone, one would do in fact a concrete link to a good player would settle everyone down
  18. the more i think about it the more i think the alleged 'offer' the club have made for him to cut his wages might be very astute He'll be sacked and we'll save £4m ish a year in wages. Personally the club should look if there is a possibility to sue Barton for bringing the club into disrepute. think you're right, they'll sack him once this verdict comes in assuming they're confident about the legal side of things re his registration, i reckon if there's ANY doubt we might not recoup transfer money for him they'd not sack him, hence the offer to cut his wages while they maybe waited out the chelski verdict appeal
  19. not sure the fee they're talking about for this lad in any way reflects his ability though, the arab club he's with seem to have demanded crazy money and got it out of lazio think i read in the guardian it could cost them as much as 20m all told, i'd not be happy with us spending that on him
  20. the more i think about it the more i think the alleged 'offer' the club have made for him to cut his wages might be very astute
  21. Not really. Mutu took drugs whilst under contract with Chelsea. We signed Barton after he'd already assaulted Dabo. 2 very different sets of circumstances. aye but he did the new year thing after he signed for us though, so the same principal applies? that was what he's sitting in clink for now isn't it?
  22. was gonna post that from the CCTV he looked like someone who'd just lost it and saw red, then came back to read the whole thing lasted 11 minutes!!! big difference between going bonkers for a minute and an incident lasting that long to me
