I think if you sell a purple like Gordon to create PSR room, you have to look for value in whatever you buy. That’s the only way that model works IMO. Selling a purple and then buying £70m Guehi strikes me as a bit stupid.

The fact they sold their other CB and kept playing Guehi late in the window were good clues this wasn’t happening as well.

If Mitchell went for 10 CB’s and couldn’t get any of them interested, then maybe he’s not the man for us. Whatever explanation we come up for for this window, there has been a failure somewhere down the line.

I rate Guehi but the idea that our scouts couldn’t find anyone in the world of similar quality and profile is bizarre. If they couldn’t find suitable alternatives then they need sacking off. This guy isn’t Nesta ffs.

The negotiation seems to consist of us getting turned down, coming back with more, and getting turned down again. Right now Palace have no replacement, have sold their other first team CB, and the defender they bought this summer just got injured. A hell of a lot needs to happen in a couple of days for Guehi to end up at Newcastle.

No but people tell us he really wants the move, so what’s it based on. So far we have little evidence that anyone on the Palace side is interested in this happening.

There’s a middle ground though, there’s nothing unprofessional about telling your club you want a move.

I think selling is the smart thing to do for Palace, but Parish also clearly cares a lot about his own image. Not selling would probably better for his popularity at this point.
