I’m not opposed to getting a big physical DM that is great at the defensive side of things, it would be useful to have a player like that. I just wouldn’t blow the budget on one.

I think you would be lucky to get much for Targett. I’d snap someone’s hand off for a few million. Most likely we’ll loan him out and pay a percentage of his wages.

Someone has to buy Mbappe and Bellingham, whoever has money gets to do it. Fair doesn’t really come into it IMO. Fair would probably be the best players distributed more evenly, rather than all going to the same clubs decade after decade until the end of time.

The cynic in me thinks Howe didn’t want him, he probably wanted someone else, so is making a point. It happens a lot in football. From the little I’ve seen I don’t believe lack of ability is the issue. Things will be clearer in the summer when we see if there’s an obligation to buy.

It’s very hard to know from the outside who is identifying and pushing for which players. I tend to favour whoever wanted Bruno and Botman (I always assumed Nickson, but who knows). Whoever is involved needs to understand the restraints we’re operating under, and that means favouring markets that offer better value for money. We can’t afford to have a domestic bias.

It’s still a mystery to me what makes him so highly rated tbh, given that he’s apparently not transfer focused. Man U fans seem to be expecting him to run their transfer policy just like we were.

At his best Murphy wasn’t really very good, he’s probably going to be guff after a season out injured IMO.
