Not sure if I'm remembering this correctly, but didn't Robson state in some interview some years ago that he wanted 4 young portuguese players: Viana, C.Ronaldo, Postiga and Quaresma. However we only had money for one of those and of course we picked the one who was voted Europe's best young player

  8. "Tottenham can offer him the chance to play in a cup final, they are in Europe - and the only way we're going to get into Europe is if we get on a ferry."

  10. old news from skysports: Jonathan Woodgate has explained that Gareth Southgate's presence at Middlesbrough was the key factor in his decision to move to Teesside. The 26-year-old defender tied up a season-long loan move from Real Madrid last week, but he had several other options open to him. Former club Newcastle were keen to bring him back to St James' Park but Woodgate has insisted that his mind was made up as soon as he listened to Southgate's vision for Boro. "I spoke to Newcastle as well. I could have gone to other clubs in Spain but I just wanted to come back to the North East of England," he told the Sunday People. "It's not a surprise to me that I am at Middlesbrough and not Newcastle. Middlesbrough are a big club, the manager is fantastic and the club is ambitious. We have just bought Robert Huth as well. "It is brilliant for me." Woodgate confirmed he shunned a move back to his former club Newcastle. "Obviously you have to make decisions in your life and I think I have made the right decision in coming here," he said. "They have got some fantastic young players here and the manager as well and with the chairman coming from Middlesbrough it was a great help and I chose Middlesbrough and it is going to be a good decision for me. "I am a Middlesbrough lad and I only want to play for Middlesbrough, it is the first time they have come for me and I had to say yes.

  16. http://www.newcastle-online.com/nufcforum/index.php?topic=48001.msg1128160#msg1128160 tbh The wiki article: Taye Ismaila Taïwo (born April 16, 1985 in Lagos, Nigeria) is a Nigerian football defender who currently plays for Olympique de Marseille (Ligue 1). His name, Taïwo, means "Pre-tasted the world". This name is usually given to the first of a set of twins [1]. He is known for his ability to shoot with his left foot. Left-back Taiwo was part of the Nigerian team during the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship. He scored two decisive goals during the competition which enabled Nigeria to reach the final (lost 2-1 against Argentina). He was designated as the third best player of the tournament behind John Obi Mikel (Nigeria) and Lionel Messi (Argentina). After a successful outing in the African Nations Cup in Egypt, Taiwo's future has become extremely bright as he has atrracted interest from Italian giant Inter Milan, Spanish giant Valencia and English club Newcastle United. Can't remember hearing about him being linked with us though
