The fact of the matter is, if Liverpool stump up the cash he'll be away. Can't see Villa turning them down now just because a deadline has past. If growing up in Northern Ireland has taught me anything, it's that deadlines are a crock of shit...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/a/aston_villa/7533851.stm Villa call off Barry move to Reds Aston Villa say that Gareth Barry will be staying at the club and not moving to Premier League rivals Liverpool. Villa claim the Reds failed to meet a deadline to sign the midfielder and now any move is off. "During talks in the past few days, a final deadline to conclude this episode was set that all parties were aware of and agreed to," said a Villa statement. "This deadline has now passed and so Gareth will remain with Villa." More to follow.

Doesn't seem too hard to get a good side. My squad is; Reina / Schwarzer Carragher / Richards / Lescott / Johnson / Young Modric / Arteta / Kranjcar / Ireland / Valencia Alves / Torres / Owen

Dunno if it was mentioned here but Celtic have signed winger Paddy McCourt from Derry City. Fee rumoured to be in excess of £250k (apparently a record for a league of Ireland player) plus an agreed friendly with the Bhoys at the Brandywell... Good move for him, but hate to see him leave. Wish him all the best and hope he an actually get a game... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/c/celtic/7462901.stm

Not that bad tbh...
-
Aye, look great on paper, but some of those midfield selections are lightweight as fuck.
-
Would be worth it at that price, but i reckon he'd ask too much in wages for the current board to bring him in. His attitude stinks too...
-
Very impressed with him too. Where does he play his club football - this is the first time I've seen him. Feyenoord Dunno, but wiki says he plays for Twente
-
The shirt colour is not part of their flag...

What a pass... Should be 3...
-
He may well be, but after 11 minutes? I'm simply making an observation, given that I'd never heard of him before this match. I'm not suggesting we sign him up and he'll be the answer to all of our woes...

Dutch lad Engelaar looks a very tidy player. Big physical presence in the middle of the park too...
-
But I thought we were such a poor team that Dos Santos would much rather have gone to Spurs anyway, even if we had been interested. But seriously, talented though the kid is, he is very lightweight. Given that Barca, evidently, think he's unsuited to la Liga, he is by no means a guaranteed hit in the Premier league...
-
Would be delighted if it were true, but I've also seen reports of £3m, which seems more realistic...
-
The summer we signed him, I actually got VIANA 45 on the home shirt, such was my excitement and optimism at the time. I've refused to get a numer on my toon shirts since...
-
Felt sorry for the lad. After all he's been through in the last few weeks, it would've been fitting for him to cap it off with the trophy...

Chelsea = £257.05m Man United = £78.05m I get your point though. What's even "funnier" is we're at £42.95m and can't even finish top half. Not always about the money though is it. Not really a true reflection though, as Man U have been building this squad year on year, whereas Chelsea just went out and bought about 30 players over the course of 3 or 4 years. They are now both spending at about the same level (in my opinion) to maintain their control over the league. As for bringing more rules... I'd be fucking happy if they just enforced the ones we already have. I noticed on at least 2 occasions last night, Ronaldo went down, clearly looking for a free kick, and the ref waved him up, implying he was diving. Now, why does he not get booked? Obviously, it was not just Ronaldo, but the point stands. And when Drogba got sent off, he was probably treated harshly, I mean, they were all at it. More cards should have been shown, not necessarily red though...

We could have won something during Sir Bobby's days if we had Weir. Even now, an aging Weir would be value add to us. Rather Taylor plays like the current Weir rather than like himself. A load of bollocks tbh, he was average at best. You're making out David Weir is fucking Maldini and would've made our defence solid just by his mere presence... Am I about to get whooshed?
-
Not really relevant to this thread though, as it's about Peter Taylor, not Steven...
-
Didn't work with Tuncay... Thank fuck!
-
surely you should have used boumsong as your example? (or do you rate him or sometin'?! ) Aye, but I get his point. Weir is considered one of the best players in that league...

It's bizarre to see Newcastle fans calling another club "United". Get your fucking acts together people. I can see why some people may refer to Man U as "united". I grew up, and still live, in Ireland where most people would support Liverpool or Man U and they would just be called "Utd". I do however think it's strange for born and bred geordies to do it... As for Cuellar, I would steer clear. Not wanting to harp back to Boumsong, but that's what it comes down to. It's very easy for a shit defender (Boumsong) to pass themselves off as a decent player, and indeed, it's easy for a decent player, like I think Cuellar is, to look very good. That said, he's not the leader we need at the back. We have Taylor and Faye as competent centre halves, as well as Edgar, Tozer, Kadar as young players trying to push for inclusion in the first team. I honestly think we should only sign another player who could be a significant improvement on what we already have.

Honestly I don't know where this talk saying he won't come to us becuase he'd walk straight into the Real/Arsenal/Liverpool first team is coming from. He's a 22 year old playing in a mediocre league who hasn't had a single outstanding game against good opposition yet. Like I said, I see him as having about the same stature as Huntelaar or Berbatov/Eduardo prior to their moves to England. It's a bit of stretch but if he wants consistent first team football in a top tier league aren't us/Spurs/Everton/Villa about as good as he's going to get? Fair enough if he prefers slowly breaking into a CL squad, but it's not beyond the realm of possibility that we could get him. This. It's not necessarily a probable transfer, but by no means impossible...

Thought they were cousins... They're brothers. Theres and interview on .co.uk where he confirms it. I'll take your word for it...
