No he didn't, he passed it sideways to Lascelles and Williamson and back again all night. Possession for Possessions sake. Must say the split centre backs thing is potentially suitable when you have good distributors - like Colo and Mbemba are, to be fair to them - but it's absolutely useless when the 3 taking part are Williamson, Lascelles and Anita. Only one of them can pass and he very rarely shows any range at all. If the CB's are very good at passing. Arguably better than the DM. Perhaps the DM himself moves up the pitch and leaves distribution to the defeners? The point of the tactic is about reworking space, drawing out their forward line (creating gaps) and pushing full backs up higher. It's not just for keeping the ball, it's to allow more open patterns of play higher up the pitch.

Strong words. Good. Sounds like he's calling a few players out too, which they deserve.

I don't know how you can conclude that he loves the club like. He's defended everything they've done to the hilt - be that Ashley, Pardew or Carver. He's been diplomatic bordering on stupidity in order to preserve his contacts and privileges within the club. He loves what he gets from the club, once that's gone he suddenly 'loves the club' and comes out with the stuff he's oddly omitted for all of Ashley's tenure. It's absolute bollocks that he loves the club as we want it to be, and probably right that he loves the club as it has been under Ashley.

'I thought we had enough possession and opportunities... created enough opportunities and chances to score'. Really? Doesn't sound like it. It's possession for possessions sake though, all night back wards and forwards across the back four and then back again with no urgency or desire to even get over the halfwayline. He's said himself he wasn't happy about the speed of play when attacking, to be fair. I can only assume that players either aren't listening to him or are such fannies they don't want to risk it. Either way, it's shocking.

Everyone's a much of a muchness, really, it all comes down to who's actually going to dig in and show some character when they play.

It all went downhill when he tried to open up our shape, tbh. We played higher against West Ham and got decimated at the back because our defensive spine couldn't handle it. Despite the signs being somewhat slightly positive before, that result just seemed to plunge everyone into a state of utter depression and panic. A couple of shit games later and it's literally a massive crisis. Has anything ever collapsed this fast?

Incredible that Lowes gets stuck into McClaren after 6 games having refused to criticise Pardew over the last three seasons. Also interesting to hear that McClaren seems to speak more confidently the more he gets pressured, even though he still waffles a lot and seems lost as to what the solutions might be. The way he always finishes his sentences on a high note drives me mad though. Somewhere down the line he must have had someone advising him on how to deal with the media and this must have been advised, because it sounds unnatural as f*** Pardew and Lowes are mates, hence the lack of criticism.

I like Wijnaldum, Perez, Mitrovic, Mbemba, Janmaat, de Jong and Krul. They seem like good, well-intentioned people and genuinely talented footballers. The rest can go and fuck off.

If the rumours from the weekend turned out to be OTT and he's in a decent headspace, I'd chuck him in. He's shit but probably just a bit less shit than the others and he doesn't hide and plays with a modicum of passion. It mightn't be fashionable to admit it but we do need some fighters in there because it's not going to be skill that gets us out of this mess.
-
Did he say yesterday that '4 or 5' players said they wanted to play the game yesterday and didn't need a rest? Surely all f***ing 14 of them from Saturday should be chomping at the bit to rectify the situation we're in.
-
Jeez, surely nobody can be that mentally weak in supposed top-level sport? Our lot seem to crumble at the slightest pressure, like, it's absolutely pathetic. Bunch of fannies who think they're better than they really are. If they fucking accepted it, dug in and got on with shit, we might just do a bit better.
-
Only good thing about all this is the pressure keeps up on this detestable arsehole. Fuck you, Mike.

Heard he went absolutely off it with them, not that it makes a difference. Would be class if he went all Pulis and nutted the shit out of one of the cunts wearing nowt but a cap.

I stand by that. With the right manager it is, no doubt in my mind. There's so much more to it than McClaren, man. I'm talking midtable, not top 6 or something? Would you have West Brom's squad over ours? Leicester's? Villa's? Stoke's? Our squad is flawed, seriously flawed even, but your average, midtable Premier League club doesn't have a significantly better or deeper squad than ours in my opinion. That's not just true today, it's true for the past three to four years of unmitigated failure where three consecutive managers have failed to get it playing at its potential, let alone have it be more than the sum of its parts. Their squads have defenders that can defend and midfielders that can compete physically in a midfield battle. We might have some technically nice players but that's not even half the battle in a league like ours. Plus our lot have no bottle and aren't fighters, another big difference.

What is going to fix this without Ashley going? It's far beyond tactics and stuff, it's a deep problem. I honestly think it'd take a monumental managerial appointment to get this lot interested and respecting the club.
