Disappointed to see him go, he had his ups and downs but i would have to say he's been one of the most entertaining players to watch and listen to since he got an injury-free run, we will have a more settled side without him no doubt but not one that wins more matches. On the wider picture, i think Mike and co have made it quite clear that anyone that doesn't agree with their policies and submit to their rule will be shipped out, or not signed in the first place. Nolan, Barton, Nolan are all strong characters who refused to 'tow the line' (regardless of what you think of the line itself), and Enrique had big goals with understandably aren't going to be realised here in the short or medium term.

Doesn't he want to stay anyway? The issue is the contract that was offered at the turn of the year wasn't lucrative enough? But its still supposedly up to him whether he stays with us for the final year of his contract or chooses to sign for QPR now, i dont see the point of signing for them now, he's hardly going to do worse at the end of the season, and if he gets another good season in he a) might be offered a better contract if Mike changes his mind and b) could sign for a better club, not a top 4 club obviously but a top half club surely.

Wont get anyone in permanently, a loan for the season i think.

What would you say if you were trying to convince Barton to stay?

On a side issue, if Song gets banned for 3 games my problem with the system is that really this will only benefit out competitors who play Arsenal in the next 3 fixtures, i think a system where he was banned for 2 games plus the next time he played Newcastle would be more fair, as we lost a large potential advantage with him not being sent off on Saturday. Obviously it's a practical mess for implementation, but thoughts?

Anyone seen that "Joey Barton is to join Robbie Savage on Radio 5 live 606 show from 1800 BST (UK users)" , more tasty sound-bites guaranteed. He's a bit of a knob sure, but its thoroughly entertaining , he does defend himself and he didn't do what 'the old joey' would have done yesterday. Overall the question for me is whether with the whole package that he is, does he positively contribute to the team, or not. And i think at this stage he does, his footballing ability adds enough to the team to cope with the antics, but if he got offside with a key player in the team, not just the management, then that might change.

I'm always suprised by the number of toon tops i see around these parts, normally make an effort to start a conversation if its down the street, it can be a pretty barren land as far as real premier league supporters go in general, so many glory hunters.

I prefer the usual way round, get no signings early in the window then a late flurry to restore some optimism, this way round all we have is rampant (and warranted) pessimism, bloody atrocious conduct from all involved, i genuinely beleive Barton wants to play for NUFC more than any other prem club, but only on his terms, which is rather large pinch of salt, on the other hand i dont think Mike understands or gives a fuck.
