  1. Had a great cross for an assist against Man U in the Champion's League - definitely brought a smile to my face!
  2. Oh I'll be pulling for us to win each and every game, it's just not going to be easy with so many starters out.
  3. Just about any CL team missing 8 first team starters is going to struggle in a CL game - even Man City wouldn't have an easy time of it. In the shape we're in at the moment, I'd just be happy if we can tread water and stay in the top half of the Premier League.
  4. Yes, without the goal they likely would have gotten 1 point, but everyone is moaning (Arteta included) that the decision cost them 3 points). I didn't word it very well, but when I said 2 points it was just the math of 3 minus 1.
  5. Obviously biased, but it did look to me that Gabriel was leaning forward to head the ball away and Joelinton's push didn't really affect the trajectory of his body. In the end they went with the initial decision on the field, so everyone can gripe, complain and cry all day long about VAR, but in the end all three points of contention were inconclusive, and in that case, it was correct to go with the decision on the field. To me, Havertz should have received a second yellow, and Bruno should have gotten a yellow for his forearm to the head. To me that incident almost looked like he was trying to get past him and use the arm to block him off, but got his head instead. I don't think it was that big a blow in any case so a yellow should have been given, and that would have perhaps calmed him down a bit for the rest of the game. Arsenal didn't lose out on 3 points like they're whining about - at most they missed out on 2 points.
  6. I've honestly been so down on Lasailles for the last 2-3 years or so, wondering why he was even still on the team, but man, I was so pleased to see him play so well, the full 90, in a Champion's League game.
  7. Other than it being a Champion's League game and the atmosphere at the stadium, it wasn't a great game to watch and we lacked any real chances other than Longstaff's shot at the end, but totally happy with the result.
  8. To get pumped up for tomorrow's game I just watched highlights on YouTube of our last Champion's League win, vs. Bayer Leverkusen back in 2002-2003. What a game that was!
  9. It wasn't great, unfortunately, just too much emphasis on the new ownership and less on the team and players. I thought the Aresenal and Sunderland series' were more enjoyable, as hard as it is for me to say that as a die-hard Newcastle United fan. The early scenes of meetings at the castle made me cringe - just so far away from the actual sport of football.
  10. I liked seeing the fan with the Chopra jersey in the crowd - so random!
  11. I hate to say it, but while Wilson, Longstaff and Burn have got us to where we are now, to reach the next level we need better players in those positions. I think if we had picked up a world-class player or two in those positions in the transfer window, we'd have had a better chance in this game and avoided the skid we've been on. At least now we can concentrate on the league - we still have a good shot at top 5.
  12. Well, we lost, but we were the better team in almost every aspect of the game except shots on goal/target.
  13. F-Espn+ - all of their graphics show the score as "Manchester United vs. Newcastle"....
  14. I don't get it either - he went down like he had been shot by a sniper. How can VAR not see that?
  15. Love how Southampton are doing better than they could have hoped, and are using their subs, while we're playing like absolute garbage and not making any changes...
  16. So who still believes Longstaff is good enough? Poor decision-making all game long so far.
  17. I wish we had got Maddison, and I think Maddison wishes we got Maddison at this point!
  18. Once I saw Longstaff in the starting lineup I knew we were in trouble - just not good enough for a team striving for a top 7 finish. Have we ever won a game that he has started? Thought Joelinton was slow AF, and still not sure Wood is top-7 quality either. This is a game we should have won, instead it was a slog that reminded me of the Steve Bruce era.
  19. It's undoubtedly negative but I honestly can't see what's so hard to grasp. I know we're all afflicted by the Pardew regime, and any hint of outright negativity (like today) is bound to get the pitchforks out - but you've got to look at things on an individual basis. Pardew's gone, this is a new manager, uninspiring though he is. Taking it as an individual case, the game was more than likely lost and he endeavored to make sure it stayed at two. I disagree, there was loads of time left when we went 4-5-0 and I'd far rather we at least had a go in that time than just try and keep the score down. I agree - are we really going to end up in a situation where goal differential is gonna matter?
  20. For most games they fill the lower half of the stadium, plus the first 10-15 rows of the upper half. So usually somewhere around 38,000 - 42,000 people. But for the big games against rivals like Vancouver, Portland and LA Galaxy, as well as friendlies like the recent game with Tottenham, they fill it up to capacity, which is around 66,000.
  21. Everyone in the North-East but Ashley, Pardew and most (but probably not all) Sunderland fans...
  22. Can't blame Hull, or any other club, for signing him. While it saddens me that it looks like he won't be playing for us, at least we'll all get the chance to see him play again. He's an exciting player, more than most in the EPL, and while I'll support NUFC and pull for them to win, I'll also watch Hull games now (just won't care if they win or not...). The way the team is being run is an absolute joke, with no regard to the fans that come out and support the team week after week. Still can't figure out why it's nearly a full stadium week after week. Personally, I'd stay away from the stadium and just watch the games on TV. Despite everything that's happened in recent years, it doesn't seem to affect attendance - I don't quite get it. A team that strives for mediocrity, gives up 3 goals to teams like Crystal Palace at home, and sells the fans favorite players, and people still show up....incredible.... (BTW this is coming from a long-time fan in the US). I know you can't just quit supporting the team - but it's really, really hard at the moment...
