Newcastle United 5 - 1 Cardiff City - 05/02/10 - post match reaction from p22

Sorry about posting the video - was wondering why it hadn't been posted before me, but now understand that it's against the rules.

And we haven't even played anyone in the bottom 6 yet. I think Cardiff away is gonna be one of our toughest matches of the season - if we can win, draw or even lose by a close margin, barring injuries, I think we should definitely be top 2 this season.

It was actually kinda fun watching us in a new league, a few new faces on the team and even the new uniforms. There was some sense of deja vu though, mainly the inept performance from Ameobi, Raylor and Nolan, as well as the fact that we were playing against the team we played against twice last season. This is going to be an interesting season - once we get a few new faces in (hopefully!) I really think this will be a fun season.

Just seen it on SSN. Corking air kick Sorry to ask a rookie question, but what is this "SSN" that people keep referring to? Thanks! Sky Sports News Thanks! I searched online for SSN and found a website called "Simplicity Sports Network" - good set of links there, but no match highlights.

Feel pretty similar. Dont care whether he becomes top scorer, but the bias against his on here is laughable. His main strength being his movement in the box, surround him by players who cant pass & he doesnt score much. Who wouldve thought it. Its his status & wage that determines he gets all the criticism. Reality is though that the status he had didnt mean we should have expected him to be able to save us singlehandedly. His injurys again, crap for us. But i dont begrudge him for wanting to represent his national side & as for the rest..i dont really consider us to be the best club to be at in terms of injurys anyway. Half of it could be down just as much to our incompetence as him. Reckon he'll do very well at a side like Man u. But my main problem with him has been the fact that he didn't give a s**t about Newcastle United, which as a captain was kinda his duty. Yes he was unlucky with injuries and we didn't give him the service he needs to score goals, but the fact is he was being paid very well, was our captain, and never once seemed like he was a member of a "team". He didn't do much press/interviews, didn't do many endorsements wearing the black n' white and while injured, always sat up in the executive box at SJP, well away from his teammates and spectators. It's sad that he's getting rewarded handsomely after being one of the key reasons why we were relegated, but that's just the way it is being a Newcastle United fan....

According to Guardian.co.uk: "If he stays, Shearer is keen to reinforce the squad by signing Paul Scholes from Manchester United on a free transfer but high wages and Jermaine Beckford, the pacy Leeds United striker, for around £2m." Any thoughts?

It just doesn't seem like he cares any more. I've yet to see him do anything to fire up the home crowd, doesn't seem to participate in goal celebrations, etc. What exactly does he do in the captain's role to motivate the team? He's well past it at this point and just a distraction - time to ship him off and bring in some young blood with a bit of danger and fire and enthusiasm for NUFC.

This is out of the blue, but a good signing in my opinion. Let's get him in for the Scumderland match!!!

I travelled all the way from Bellingham, WA to Newcastle to see a match during the 2005/2006 season (vs. Birmingham at SJP). We won in like the 70th minute with an Emre goal - game ended 1-0. I still have amazing memories of how the crowd erupted when it went in. For that I'll always have a soft spot for him. I think he is/was a great player, however, I agree the injuries are getting frustrating... Sean Bellingham, WA

It's gonna be the goal that keeps us from being relegated this season! Sean Bellingham, WA

Keegan is playing!!! Whoo hoo!!!

He desperately needs some shooting practice - after his first few misses why did they keep passing to him outside the box? Absolutely pathetic. Michael Owen (or heck, even Viduka) needed more chances inside the box - if Butt had passed instead of shot maybe we would have gotten the goal we needed. Sean Double Crown Records www.dblcrown.com
