  1. His football with Nufc was arguably better than Arsenal, but unlike arsenal he didnt have substance to his style. I saw him at other big jobs like England and Man City where he feel out of love with the game, he actually spent a fair bit at Man City as well. Inspring i suppose but is there actually any guaratee he could get us playing the way we did then, bare in mind the premiership has become far more defensive now then it was in those days, the game isnt as open as it was in those days.
  2. After sounding out all these capable candidates how the fuck will we go appointing anyone nex time round, i see the merits of this appointment in the sense it is someone people will be able to get beihnd, said this earlier, but fuck me. Who the fuck will consider this job if you know its a safe bet that you'll only be made to look stupid when the board wil only go and appoint shearer after talking to you. There is absolutely no froesight in this appointment, if he didnt have Newcaslte on his CV he would be a nobody. Can he sort out our defence? Can he build a cup winning side? Could he handle the pressure which is arguable 10 fold from when he walked out last time? All no in my book. I think im more pissed off at the board than i am with Keegan, its a safe bet that he could be a success but its an equally safe bet that he wont be a major success, if that makes sense. Why risk destrying your legendary status. We've really dropped a bollock here. I just dont see how anyone could pick Keegan over Deschamps, what footballing reason is there? Not happy in the slightest, as a fan though, i am obliged to support the boards decision until its its obviosuly proved wrong. So i'll carry on supporting.

    Kevin Keegan

Oppurtunity to go for on the the brightest managers in the game who has achievd more than keegan ever will inhis first few years of management and we go for Keegan. Truly gutted, how can anyone justify this appointment?

    Kevin Keegan

Truly gutted to be honest, not necessary for the reason that this could be a failure as an appointment but more that theres no ambition there, its purely sentimentel. Shepherd all over again, not happy to be honest, has he got the ability to get us near the top again? Thought we had the manager we were after in the bag, Deschamps, Houllier the possiblities were truly endless. Keegan is a big step backwards, he's been out of football for 3 years. Football changes every year.
  5. level of achievemnts is usually a good measure in assessing the skills of an incoming manager, though i have to say stlye of football, success comes hand in hand with quality and style, arguably we have the quality but seriously lack the style.
  6. So whats the craic then? Am i dreaming or is newcastle untied actually looking for a suitable cadidate rather than the first person to walk past the stadium? Fatih Terim, Deschamsp, Houllier, Hughes, Keegan, Camacho, these are all suitable candidates in my eyes, (apart from Keegan), whoever we go for id actually be content for once if they failed becasue these are all intelligent appointments who cant be faulted really. Out the lot id prefer Deschamps to be honest, my only concern is that we are approaching alot of cnadidates, surely the ego of some of these managers arent gonna allow them to sit and wait on the job..
  7. Getting an unfancied French side to the CL final and losing to arguably the best manager in the world good enough? Is it? I'd hate to think we were hiring a manager off one excellent cup run. Group stage PSV 1–2 Monaco Monaco 4–0 AEK Athens Deportivo 1–0 Monaco Monaco 8–3 Deportivo Monaco 1–1 PSV AEK Athens 0–0 Monaco Knockout stage Lokomotiv Moscow 2-1 Monaco Monaco 1-0 Lokomotiv Moscow Quarter-finals Real Madrid 4-2 Monaco Monaco 3-1 Real Madrid Semi-finals Monaco 3-1 Chelsea Chelsea 2-2 Monaco Final Monaco 0-3 Porto -------------------------------------------------------------------- Great achievement but is all the hype really coming because of that? He jumped ship when Monaco were 15th after being there 16 months and took an excellent Juventus squad with plenty of top players out of Serie B, he left them after falling out over transfers or something. Like I've said, I'm not knocking the bloke because I don't know that much about him, I'm guessing some on here who are jumping on the bandwagon don't know that much about him either, I'm approaching his appointment with an open mind but I'd like someone to tell me what is so good about him. See, im personally behind this appointment because of what he has already achieved in such a short career. Although it can be argued that he hasnt acheived a geat deal with Juve becasue of the talent of players at his disposal, the bottom line is that he did achieve his goal and was able to use his skill as a manager to forge a team that won, it showed that he previous achievement at Monaco werent fluke. There is a big gamble with this appointment, but itwouldbe an appointment whichi would support to the end on the basis of pure ambition that it would show, to employ and young well reknowned manager who has a reasonalbe record so far. It wouldnt be an appointment which would be reactive to any problems that we have, but rather one which is pro active. He is a man which a limit cant be put, either achievemnt wise or career length wise. The same cant be said for Houllier who hasnt achieved great success in the CL, with either Liverpool or Lyon (QF). houllier is also a candidarte that doesnt tick all the criteria. To summarise, i basically think that it would be appointment which no one could really scrutinze too much, if he was to get the job and suceed we would be onto a long term winner and the sky is truly the limit, if he fails, i dont believe that the board can be criticized for his appointment beucase they showed a good level of ambition in trying to sign one of brighest young managers in the game. Is it possible to come 3rd with monaco, 1st with juve and get a CL final with Monaco purely by luck? There is a level of competence there which shows that he is a capable manager.
  8. Wouldnt want it any other way. I love rollercoasters.
  9. Who do you think'll be the new favourite 2morra? I love the fact that the media are largely clueless, not a chance of this happening with FS at the helm. My bet will be Co Adriaanse, or van Basten.
  10. Never have to say im pretty surprised as well tbh. i reckon, out of those meantioned relaistically, there is more support for deschamps than anyone else I wonder if the votes would be different if one wasn't more linked than the other, people could have voted on the fact Deschamps is much more likely to come. Id like to see the voting with "unsure" not being an option. This is the one candidaate who hasnt really been srutized much. Its a win win situation to be honestin my eyes, if he comes and implements success we're onto a winner with no limit, if he fails, the board cant be scrutinized for making what looks like a very ambitious appointment.
  11. Nice to see some direct quotes regarding our club!! I wonder who else Mort will talking to?
  12. Read this quote from Deschamps, article dated 10/1/2008 dont know if means much... “I don’t think that I want to take a job mid-season, so I think I’ll wait for next term.”
  13. Aye, I'm surprised at such goodwill towards him tbh. Not to say he isn't good (I have no idea), but he's done nothing compared to Houllier, for example. A foreign Hughes? Yes, Deschamps is the same age as Houllier and has had the same amount of time to make an impact Where did I say that? I'm talking about the difference in response by people on here. Houllier with all his achievements got nothing like this enthusiasm. Maybe because the teams he has worked under haven't played the attractive football the people on here are looking for. Maybe so. I've never really seen it, as I admitted above. What kind of style do his teams generally play? Other than with Juventus in a lower league. Attacking, you saw that throughout the Champions League campaign, the wins over Real Madrid and Chelsea were very good games and Monaco took the game to both of them, Morientes and Giuly were influential in their success and I'm sure everyone remembers the 8-3 win over Deportivo La Coruna, players such as Morientes, Giuly and Rothen were the main attacking players in their team, the point is the intent was to play good football and attack teams. So do people prefer the promise of good football over a proven winner? I think people lke the fact that he is able to back up his good footballing credential with reasonable significant achievements, also has a lot of other things going for him such as his age and the unknown quantity aspect. Houllier has a limit, both achievment wise and age wise. The appointment of Deschamps has an air of Wenger about it.
  14. Aye, I'm surprised at such goodwill towards him tbh. Not to say he isn't good (I have no idea), but he's done nothing compared to Houllier, for example. A foreign Hughes? Maybe becasue people are aware of Houlliers limit, as it stands Deschamps is someone not too many can fault becaseu he's achived something ata young age and can surely only get better with better resources and freedom. His style isnt questionalble either.
  15. Dont you know NUFC sack their managers early? Havent you read the papers? Apparently so....as long as we lose prettily ill be a happy magpie!
  16. Of all the managers out there who havent got a "proven trpohy winning" record, Deschamps is probably the one would be happy with, its encouragin that the poll says that not many people would be against him. That says alot to be honest. I think he might win over the fans becasue of the CL Final, that would be banded around the terraces soon enough. He ticks all the boxes if you ask me. Bottom line is that if we were to try this and he were to fail, i wouldnt be too angry with Mort and Ashley becaseu they showed enough bollocks to make a proactive appointment. I also like the fact that the potential appointment is one where the skys the limit, alot of managers out there who would be relaisitc for us have a limit so to spek, for example Houllier, there would come a time where we know it'd be the end for him, however Deschamps to me has no limit because he is so young.
  17. Arsenal took a risk with Wenger, id be happy to take any risk which is justifiable to be honest, have be tired of all the reactive appointments made in the past, this potnetial appointment ticks all the boxes and is about as proactive as you can get.
  18. If any of this is true,i have to say i like the direction that Mort and Ashley are going, it makes me think that Redknapp wasnt offered the job but rather touted for it and spoken to about it. from me.
  19. I think i could get behind Deschamps to be honest, his limited managerial experience has been pretty successful so far, CL Final, 3rd Monaco, and 1st Serie B Juve. Seems to tick all the boxes that Mort has set. Huge risk, but a risk id be quite willing to have taken. A proactive appointment, but maybe not one the fans could get behind. This maybe a big problem.
  20. Was just about to say that...ridiculous.
  21. The past week or 2, the Ronnie has had Morts socks knocked off, Redkanpp nailed on, Hughes nailed on, Shearer nailed on, Shearer and Keegan nailed on and Houllier nailed on, with a brazillian thrown in for good measure.
