Shearer? Here's how I feel about Shearer ... I think he would be a good manager but as far as buying players goes I think he would struggle massively. I think Shearer would be the sort to always go after Brits. Shearer would have bought someone like Smith too. Does he really have the knowledge of world football that will allow us to get the best players we possibly could to the club? That would be my biggest worry. Hasnt exactly got contacts either, would take ages for him to set up a world wide scout system.

Hguhes isnt exactly all out attack and he's being mentioned, to be fair, i can see Keegan and Shearer being implemented as well.

Van Gaal. They can't defend for s*** though Wullie - talking about debts; Man United still owe over £600m for the two loans they took out (from an American bank and an American company, so our country don't even benefit from it). They announce this week that they're once again the richest club in England (although only because of turnover). I think our financial future looks far rosier than theirs, despite their massive assets. 3rd richest club in england?

Van Gaal, Ancelotti, Scolari, all reknowned for there attacking style. Also big big targets. Rijkaard? I dunno there are options, but to go to Redknapp so soon before anyone else seems odd to me.

i just find it strange that he went for harry? I can see the merits of it, he has played attacking football whenever he can, and with a bigger budget has done quite well, with a huge budgets who's to say what he's capable of. Like i said earlier, Harry reminds me hell of a lot like Keegan, motivator attack minded, plucks good quality improts from nowhere etc....

He seems like a good option, id like to see Joachim Lowe as well. Seems to be doing well with Deustchland. I think we can forget about defensive minded targets.

Brought butterflies to my stomach. I think its clear he's dsperate to invest. I just wish he would get this appointment right, something tells me that the defensive minded managers, like mourhino et al, wont be on the list.

Are there actually many other British based managers who may be approached? Can anyone tink of any managers who may be on Morts list, obviously not stupid ones like Ronnie Moore, but ones in the same brcket as Redknapp. The 3/4 i can think of are Hughes, Shearer, Keegan and Jol. Now its already been intimated that nationality isnt an issue so isnt it likely that we will be looking abroad as well?

Keegan was a fantastic motivator, and had a philophsy which sits perfectly with the 'Geordie way of playing football' to be honest i dont want them here. Keegan is a legend, no doubt but i just cant see them being the ones who will eventually lead us onto greater things. Do they have the tactical know how, can they change a game with there substituions. Do they have a modern look to football. From what i gather football is an obsession with all the most successful managers, do i think Shearer and Keegan will afford the same level of obsession. No Basing this on absolutely nothing, but shearer strikes me as one of those "get stuck in" type of managers.

To be honest, i think he has legend written all over him. He's superb, cannot find a single fault in his game, think the hole "goes missing in big games" is bollocks if you ask me. 22 goals already is an unreal stat. I think he'll be a success whereever he goes.

There are a fair few who have said they want to come to the premierhship, its only the Liverpool job which looks like it will be availbale and appealing to big managers, the next one from that is ours, Houllier Lippi Van Gaal Scolari Mourihno (said he wants to come back sooner or later) Hitzfeld Capello They are all managers in recent times who have said they would like to come to the premiership, not saying that they would come now but just saying the names are out there. p.s Im aware of some of the peoples circumstances, just reiterating that its an appealing league which top class managers want to come to. The fact is is that managers want to manage in this league, its become an ambtions for a lot of managers becuase of the hype and money around the premiership nowadays. If you ask me if it were possilble for a top class foriegn manager to be appointed for nufc, despite todays performance id still say yes because the oppurtunity to manage one fo the big big clubs is becoming rarer and rarer so its a case of the next best thing. Which without a shadow of a doubt is us.

His future is completely out of our hands now, i can see him wanting to leave and i wouldnt blame him. The only way i can see him staying is if we get a top class manager and really prove our ambition, Zog will still be young and painfully talented in a years time, it'll be fair to say that if we dont come on leaps and bound by then then i wouldnt begrudge him wanting to say goodbye.

I genuinely didnt realise the gulf in class between our players and theres was so big. I can only think off Zog who could make it in the top 4-5. There is absolutely no positivity in our play and only Zog is looking to attack. Noone, absolutely no one seems keen to recieve the ball. I watched arsenal and with a second of someone recieving the ball there was about 2-3 players all lookingto recives the ball. Nothing of the sort from this team. If anything everyone is looking to get away from the ball.

They should have either sacked Allardyce earlier or waited until the summer. Realisitcally, we'd of needed to sack him mid December so that there was enough time to appoint a suitable manager? That would of been much worse timing in my opinion. As for waiting till the summer, well that would of meant Ashley would of needed to sign players for Allardyce this Jan knowing he was gonna be sacked come the summer, which is basically throwing money away. Maybe a week earlier would of been the best time to sak Allardyce, but that time is pretty insignificant.

Yep, Ranieri would definitely leave Juventus for Newcastle. Maybe he can flatshare with Mancini... Never rated Ranieri to be honest, has he ever won anything? No but he's foreign was this forum loves him. I dont think its an impulsive need to want a foreigner, but i realisation that all the best candidates with proven credentials happen to be foriegn. Hughes and any other british manager outiside the top 4 will always have to the burden of managing a club in a league where noone outisde the top 4 has a realistic chance of ever winning anything. Even the League Cup is now a valued piece of silverware, that is how desperate the big clubs are getting for success. How do you prove your credential without ever having the oppurtunity to have win anything.

The timing is poor, the new person will not have much time to put things right with the team and we might end up going for players in panic mode. Under the circumstances what other options did they have? Surely they cant of backed a dead man walking. Surely they couldnt let the oppurtunity for a new guy o have his window come, it seems plainly obvious to me that Ashley wants to pour the money on us but not under Allardyce's guidance. EDIT: Also if Dirty 'Arry accepting this fat wedge wasnt a cert then i dont know what is, what more could Ashley do? Maybe Mort didnt put it in a brown papaer bag?

The timing is poor, I agree. I dont think the timing is poor, if Ashley knew Allardyce was the wrong man for the job, why would he risk the wrath of the fans by not backing him in the window and why would he want to spend money on someone who will only gear the club towards a type of football which isnt working and isnt "attractive".

I don't see how they've failed this "test" yet as we haven't appointed anybody yet. They've sacked him without having heard positive noises from the man they wanted. Never get rid of a bloke without a replacement lined up, or a significant length of time free to find one. Middle of the transfer window is madness. Could the fans of put up with the inept performances we've witnessed so far for the rest of the season? From what i gather Ashley requested he changed his style of football, make it more attacking and Allardyce (correctly) refused claiming Stoke was a success etc. My point is that Ashley didnt want to back someone who was gearing towards playing turgid football. Maybe his potential targets reflected this fact. I think that this is probably the best time to sack Allardyce so that a replacement can be found and have a decent amount of time to invest in his own players. My only concern with what has happened so far is the fact that they seem to be targetting poor candidates.
