It really is pretty fucking surreal that football, of all things is where we're having a prominent discussion about Saudi Arabia. I'm sure lots of people are trying to address these issues in more appropriate venues, and this is just a convenient, high-profile transaction, so why not use it. But honestly it's kind of grimly funny.

Supporting the club doesn't equal supporting the KSA. It's perfectly coherent to love the club and continue to support it while thoroughly condemning the harms perpetrated by the KSA.

I don't see anyone here doing that. I mean if you stand up and say "I actively support killing homosexuals," you're rightly going to be shouted down. But nobody here's saying you're doing that. I can't see why you'd give a shit if other supporters want to make it clear that their continued support of the club doesn't mean they're co-signing everything the KSA does.

I don't see any faux indignation in here. I also don't see anybody saying you're morally wrong if you continue to support the club and the takeover without worrying about sportswashing. All I see is people saying, for themselves, that they're working through some level of discomfort with the level of connection with KSA. I can't see why anyone who isn't interested in that aspect would care that others are.
