  1. A Chelsea friend of mine referred to their situation as “extraordinary circumstances” to which I questioned exactly what that meant…
  2. I wish Chelsea had a few less points on the board. They could legitimately be in the relegation mix.
  3. Yup, seems there were not as many draws back then. The three with 8 losses are: 1995/96, 1996/97, and 2003/04. 1904/05 - 9 losses in 34g 1906/07 - 9 losses in 38g 1908/09 - 9 losses in 38g 1924/25 - 10 losses in 42g 1948/49 - 10 losses in 42g 1926/27 - 11 losses in 42g If we go unbeaten the rest of the season then we'd match the 2009/10 Championship season for fewest losses regardless of division.
  4. I just realized that we're very likely going to lose less games than we've ever lost in a top flight season in the history of the club. As far as I can tell the record is 8, which has happened three times. We lost 10 or 11 a few times in 42 game seasons, but that's still not as good on a per game basis. From relegation places to one of the most impressive seasons in club history is an unbelievable achievement.
  5. At least the other way has an out where we make it and Liverpool does too. Although honestly I'd prefer Man United to Liverpool. Fuck them.
  6. I'm very torn about this. On the one hand we're playing extremely well, I like our chances against anyone at home, and they have wobbled a bit in recent weeks. On the other hand I think people are a little too confident considering how good they've been this season. IMO we were quite fortunate to not concede and come away with a point at the Emirates. Defensively they now have question marks, but we are also looking a bit less sturdy at the back. The City game was the first time Arsenal have scored less than two goals since February. Before that they scored 3, 2, 2, 4, 4, 3, 3, 4, though I'd also say they've played some of league's worst defenses in that time. They've only failed to score twice this season - vs. us and randomly a trip to Goodison. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if it was 3-0, 0-3, or any scoreline in between those. I'm finding this impossible to call.
  7. I don't think I'll be able to open this thread if Liverpool get six points this week and we lose to Arsenal (which, to be clear, would still leave us in a perfectly fine situation that would not warrant extreme panic).
  8. Leeds have lost 5 of 7 with scorelines of 4-1, 5-1, 6-1, 2-1, and 4-1. The 5-1 and 6-1 were at home. They are in free fall.
  9. No, we can lose two games and still finish above a perfect Liverpool or Brighton. But if that happens and then we lose this place will be in full meltdown. We play Leeds before Liverpool play again, so we will have an opportunity to put it back to 6 (or even 9).
  10. Instead of imagining the worst, imagine this instead: Liverpool draw (or worse) their two games this week: we beat Arsenal and they are done. Regardless of what Liverpool does this week if we beat Arsenal I’m going to be thinking about beating Man United for third more than any team behind us.
  11. We’ve taken 24 of our last 27 points, scoring 26 goals in the process. We’ve conceded 10 goals in that stretch. They’ve taken 17 of their last 27 points, scoring 25. They’ve conceded 14 goals. If they are in great form then what are we doing? I’d like our chances if we were starting on equal ground. Fortunately they have zero margin for error and, while they are dangerous because they are capable of massive results, they are also constantly walking a tightrope at the back. Any of their last three games could have ended in a draw and there could have been no complaints.
  12. Would need to be an actual casualty in their penalty area for Liverpool to give away a penalty.
  13. Come on Spurs, at least make this interesting.
  14. Man City: 2.375 ppg Arsenal: 2.27 ppg Newcastle: 1.97 ppg Newcastle with Bruno (27g): 2.26 ppg Newcastle without Bruno (6g): 0.67 ppg
  15. I really don’t understand why everyone hates Kane.
  16. From Leeds to City we only scored 3 goals in 8 league games. Since that time we’ve scored 26 in 9. That’s averaging almost 3 goals a game over a quarter of the season and includes getting shutout.
  17. A Spurs result today and you can start booking your refundable hotel rooms in Naples, Madrid, Marseille, and Lisbon.
  18. Second half xG: Newcastle: 3.75 Southampton: 0.00
  19. Not sure I’m ready to write off Villa.
  20. 2.20xG in the first 25 minutes of the second half.
