Were some of them not staying behind to work on fitness because they were on the way back from injury? You can be injured/recovering, but still able to do some training. Just not enough to make a long-haul trip to America to play three friendlies worthwhile (although you could argue that even fully fit this is not worthwhile!).

Waited around afterwards to ask Carver about the decision to start Raylor. Shouted his name and he came over to sign autographs for some kids. Told him I wasn't there to abuse him and just wanted to ask him what his justification was for starting Taylor in midfield ahead of Anita/Abeid. No swearing, no shouting. He couldn't even look at me let alone respond, although you could see his nostrils flaring. I don't know what I thought I'd achieve or expected him to say really, but just felt I had a right to ask him. Think even less of him than I did before for blanking me though - I thought the whole image/persona he presents is based on being able to front up and look people in the eye.
