  1. Surely we didn't bid £12m. Probably closer to £2m. Aye, I suspect it's bollocks.
  2. It was that fateful game against Liverpool when Gerrard slipped IIRC.
  3. There we go. Initial loan with obligation to buy.
  4. Hope for all: Thinks it's a permanent deal as well.

  6. I know Ryder shot it down but it would be nice if we can get the Greek lad in as well. Would solidify the midfield and then Rafa can focus at sorting out a AM and striker. FWIW Ryder seemed to suggest a bit further on that we are in talks for Samaris, just that an official bid hasn't been lodged yet:
  7. Loan fee of 7m Euros is being bandied around on Twitter.
  8. Can't wait for Ryder to shoot this one down in about an hour or so. Like fish in a barrel.

  10. Agree re. Townsend. McCarthy supposedly wasn't for sale in January though.
  11. We've signed 2 players with virtually no experience of top level football and another who did OK in Spain. Stop exaggerating. The summer's been an abject failure so far. If you are judging what has been accomplished on July 25th with the criteria of what you expect from the window in its entirety, then of course it is a failure. The squad clearly needs to strengthen in a variety of areas, but there will also clearly be more signings. Only the most ardent of pessimists can really believe we are fully done. In my view, we've made two good deals and one mediocre one thus far, and need three to four more to be satisfactory. My real disappointment, is that it seems the club seemingly need to sell in order to buy, a financial reality that is worrying when competing in the richest league in the history of world football. I don't think it's sell to buy in the traditional sense though. The squad is far too big, Rafa's acknowledged as much.
  12. Izzy Brown has signed for Brighton on loan. Interesting one, imagine it's a bit of a blow for Huddersfield.
  13. We're getting s*** loads more money than ever before as well, it's not like we're sat here earning 2010 money. Club needs to recognise this soon and stop complaining about the "overinflated market" like we're not part of the inflation. We are, but the majority of the PL have benefited from the increases in TV money for an extra season. It's not a level playing field. Those PL teams had the extra season's TV money because they didn't try to save money hiring s*** managers. These things have a way of coming back and biting you in the arse. I don't disagree, but that's a completely separate argument. Ultimately, we are where we are. We could end up back where we were making the same mistakes again. Substitute hiring s*** managers with buying championship players. Boxing smart - with a limited budget, several key squad positions to fill and a ridiculous domestic market to contend with - is not analogous to buying just Championship players. We've only bought only one so far and Murphy looks an excellent prospect. Who do you suggest we buy? Spunk a third of the budget on James McCarthy, who can't even hold down a start for Everton? The likes of Allan, who we were linked with earlier, are the sort of signings we should be looking to make IMO.

  16. Allan from Napoli - https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/4091926/newcastle-allan-southampton-west-brom-napoli/ Am I right in thinking he's quite decent?
  17. Jack Wilshere. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/07/21/jack-wilshere-wanted-swansea-paul-clement/ Swansea and West Ham also interested. Can't see this one being a goer.
  18. Diogo Jota to Wolves on a season-long loan.
  19. And a lot of inconsistency too whereas Routledge hit the ground running and secured us the league Do you not think unpredictability and inconsistency go hand-in-hand to some extent though? I agree re. Atsu and Routledge FWIW - wasn't making a direct comparison between the two.
  20. Wouldn't put him in the same bracket as Routledge but Atsu offered a fair amount of flair/unpredictability last season.
  21. Where? Nowhere credible (at the moment), probably one for the Twitter thread but it does seem slightly realistic. Bookies have massively dropped their odds too, which may be the cause (or a reaction to it). https://twitter.com/curtiswoodhous8/status/886641897107849216 Shift at the bookies' will be due in part to this tweet IMO - supposedly Woodhouse is quite well connected at Hull.
